I wouldn't call it racist tbh. I'd describe it as an idiotic generalisation. Of course all English people go around breaking up each other's apartments.

The Irish always copy the English, look at the (twatting D4 Accent)
We copy everything they do, even people who say we dont, do.
I am originally from London with irish parents, going mental on holiday was a badge of honor among people i knew, One of them came back boasting about how their hotel was surrounded by Policia after they trashed the place ( I didnt see what was so funny, but that was just the thing to do) now the Irish are at it. everything from Music to Fashion to the Drug scene to Sex, its all copied from the Brits eventually. The way we act now aswell, is copied ... all RETRO from across the pond. If you had spent time in London around the 80's, you would recognise that whole greed mentality that has crept into Irish society (all a copy) whether we like it or not. on the funny side though the bad taste in Fashion in Dublin is like being back in the 80's hahaha ... even after all these years of fashion no one has yet been able to buy taste :D

Still, on a serious note, those students should be named and shamed

WHAT THE FU<K!!! Nothing they did was illegal? it was RENTED accomadation that DIDN'T belong to them. If you had sublet your room out, would you be happy if that happened to you? Would you call the Guards? You probably wouldn't, just "take it on the chin" - Yeah right!!!
They are scum. They should be named and brought to the fore for their "crime". The security deposit won't cover it, and some poor f*cking college student has to pay for it. There's a front door missing ffs!!!

*have I just risen to flame bait?

The fact that I or anybody else wouldn't be happy about it has nothing to do with how leggal or illegal their behaviour was.

My point is that there are lots of stories like this. I know people who were in similar situations and what happened was they lost their security deposit and were sent on their way. That's what the deposit is there for. You break it, you bought it. There are never any criminal charges brought against them. The payment of the deposit probably goes some way to waive the right of the landlord to sue for damages. Since there was a security deposit paid, I'm not sure if they can claim criminal damage. The only problem is that it was the american students who paid it. If they had switched the lease assignment over for $250, then it's the Irish students who would lose out and nobody would care.

All J1 flights should be rerouted to Iraq. Where the smelly students can be used as armour for the US Humvees.

    hehe ... I'll second that :D

You are talking out of your a*se man - criminal damage is criminal damage paying a deposit doesn't entitle you to thrash someone elses home - where the f*ck are you from?

The deposit is meant to cover 'reasonable' breakages - no one envisages this kind of damage - how would you feel if it was your house - inconsiderate a**!!! Read a law book.

You are some stupid **** you are, a security deposit does not give you the right to thrash a place, it does not mean you own anything. If you do more damage than the deposit covers the Landlord is well within his rights to persue you for the excess costs. Its Gob****es like you who should never be rented accommodation anywhere as you obviously place no valus on other peoples property.
And it does not matter is anyone knows of worse cases or if you have done this yourself and think its Ok, the fact is its not OK to thrash peoples property and yes they should be located and made pay for it and quite probably kicked out of their colleges as well as they don't deserve an education if thats the level of stupidity they display.

How do you look at an accent?

I hail from D4, so either:

    1. I copied my accent from "The English". or
    2. You are generalising due to an enormous chip on your shoulder.

Unlike you, I won't presume to guess which. :)

How come when someone vandalises something in Dublin it's knackers, but do it in the US and it's rich-kids?

Why isn't it "Daddy won't be able to show his face down the bookies for shame"?

LOL, that brings back memories. I saw the exact same thing in San Francisco a few years back. The J1ers living next door to us completely destroyed their apartment.

They had all left before us and the evening we were cleaning up our place before heading home we knocked on their door, found the lock broken and went in. It was like a bomb had gone off. The carpet was black, rubbish everywhere, clothes, furniture, inflatable beds, you name it. Mirrors were smashed with shards everywhere.

Suited us grand coz we just chucked all our unwanted junk into their place and left ours looking nice and tidy, getting back our deposit.

It was surreal though, the place wasn't even fit for pigs!

Because the knackers can't afford to leave Dublin. Duh........ ;)

I can so see this becoming the next Annabels....what the hell difference does it make where they're from or what their parents earn. How does it affect in any way what did? How it make it better or worse? Do any of you actually know how cheap it is to do a j1? A lot of people make money doing it. It is far the sole domain of 'rich' southsiders.

God this country has such a chip on its shoulder about....everything, bunch of fecking begrudgers the lot of ya!

You dont have to be from the southside to be rich/posh/stuck up, you knob.

seems to me by reading your posts that you approve of what happened,
if you are going to reply you dont have to bring in the fact that you are from the southside, i think you have already established that!

I remember a bunch of south dublin tossers doing this kind of stuff in Munich 20 years ago.

Why bother saying where the person is from?

Shut it with Northside/Southside stuff. There are snobs on the North and Southside. There are scumbags on the North and scumbags in the South.

I say fairplay to these lads, looked like they lived it up. Enjoy your youth

Am I alone in thinking that the above sentance should stop at the word 'crack'?

I'll look forward to seeing their shock-horror exposè sandwiched between the pictures of titties and ads for phone-sex services.

And I wonder why some foreign people use the phrase 'Dirty Irish'?

I love how some people can read an article in the paper, take it as if everything is true and make such definite statments, Do you realise most of you don't have a clue what went on, you saw one photo and read an article in the paper, that apartment had diferent groups staying there all the time, know 3/4 guys who stayed there for 2 wks, but people went in and out of it like a hostel, irish and everyone else!

Secondly americans as a generlised statment screw everyone for as much money as they possibaly can, 15,000 could prob be end up being 1500 damages, not sure obviously, but on other cases in properties both here (Ireland), and abroad....(the US especially!), this turns out to be the case.

I don't know enough about this case to make half the comments most people have made, while knowing alot more about it than they do! I wasn't in california but know alot of ppl who were, Will people ever stop commenting on things they don't have a clue about, I bet all the guys who have made comments could write an article about this just as well as they could Iraqi Politics, and in both cases they would be full of ****!

I would have thought that was obvious. Since there is a proven link between poverty and criminal behaviour - rich kids have less excuse to behave like scum.

With attitudes like this prevalent on this thread is it any surprise that a significant number of kids (their peers no doubt) act like scum. Grow up and take some responsibility for ffs.

Point of information Superman - the point of a damage deposit is to cover the landlord against damage that goes beyond reasonable wear and tear - not to give the tenant license to smash the place up.

It doesn't matter where you come from. What matters is the kind of person you are.

If you're the kind of person who thinks that destructive behaviour like that is fun, then you don't deserve any respect.

It comes down to the fact that we all have to cohabit this one society. Therefore our actions always impinge upon others. Therefore, your actions should be considered in the context of how they affect society. Those idiots earned a bad name for the Irish abroad and futhermore destroyed someone else's home. Fúckwits. The disgraceful thing is that they were considered intelligent enough to go to college.
