Holland and the Netherlands are not two names for the same country, but rather that Holland is the former name for part of it. Holland these days constitutes two out of a total of twelve provinces that make this country.

Perhaps it could be called "The Nether Regions", so as to remove confusion?

This confusion I can somewhat understand, because they are all seperate geographical entities away from the Iberian penisula. But were exactly is "Holland" and/or "The Netherlands"? There must be a lot of confused Dutchmen over there!! I won't name names, just read the goddammed list :D

Holland is like a province of The Netherlands, at the coast. (ie. like Munster or Ulster...) I dunno, Holland seems a more common name to be used than The Netherlands.

    This is very true.
"Some people call the Netherlands, Holland, but it is not the same. Holland is only a small part of the Netherlands"

The Netherlands / Holland... clicky clicky

Actually- while it does issue its own postage stamps, its postal system is run by the Italian Post Office network, and it does not have its own currency, the Euro is legal tender. Prior to the Euro, the Italian Lire was legal tender. It did issue coins, but these were mostly for commemerative purposes (much as virtually the entire run of Euro coins issued by the Vatican City were collected, and are not in general circulation). It is a real live country in its own right though!

Yes, the official currency in The Vatican is the Euro but it it a specific Vatican Euro... complete with face of The Pope on them.
    Clicky linky - Vatican Euro's

Clicky Linky - New Vatican Euros in demand

Vatican Euros are not Legal Tender... so why do they make them if you can't buy anything with them??
