I got the idea for this thread when I was remembering a fellow that I used to work with. He had a piece of paper in his wallet with the list of countries on it ... and he was all excited because his trip to Lisbon got him up to number 50.

By the way, all those Islands are part of Spain.. and the Isle of Man is part of the UK.

It would be a very expensive hobby to just go to these places to rack up a count. I've lived and worked in 5 of my 27 countries, still only 23 now Aiming for 100! I reckon that after getting another few countries from Europe(Scandanavia I haven't been to yet) then it will be time to move to Australia or somewhere in Asia.

Found a site earlier that reckons there are 191/192/193 countries... depending on whether Taiwan is recognised or not. Check out the link -->

Yes you are right that Wales, N.ireland, Scotland are UK then.... but I just never heard of a Channel Islands football team (ask Graham le Saux).... so you cannot count the Channel Islands as a country.
