Hopefully it clicks for him at the next opportunity. He seems to have a very natural feel for forward play.

I think it was Enda that spurned the potential Rob Heneghan goal chance I mentioned. Carried the ball into contact and had to recycle instead of seeing the hand pass to Heneghan who was open in the centre between the penalty spot and the 21 with a corner back struggling to get out as far as him from a wider position. By the time it was recycled out the middle was entirely congested.

After that there were two or three strange forced chances where the ball was ran to within about 6 or 8 yards of the Tyrone goal and an attempt was made which would have needed to squeeze past 3 or 4 Tyrone players. A simple turn and pass back out to the spare men and it'd have been the simplest of tap over points each time.

Big moments in a tight game. Especially when Tyrone grabbed a few handy points for themselves under not too much pressure at all off the backs of these wasted opportunities.

See what you highlighted about the poor shooting decisions is a very fixable problem with a couple of good weeks training, which is why I'm not a bit concerned for our next few games.

Was much more concerned after our collapse against the Dubs in the league than about last week.

I've full faith Dowd will have them absolutely purring again in the next fortnight!

Jesus, what a difference a few weeks makes.

What a terrible performance by Roscommon. And you would have thought after the Tyrone match that the players would have been laser-focused for this. But no, from very early on, Roscommon were careless in possession, jittery, making some head-scratching decisions and just looked flat. And got flatter the longer the game went on.

Back to good old brutally inconsistent Roscommon, especially when there's some expectation. It really puts a dampner on the whole season, made worse by the fact that people were genuinely so positive after Minor, U20 and Senior Connacht championships.

For those who were questioning me in earlier posts about the importance of kickouts under the new rules, you could not get a more perfect example than today's match. I can only recall Monaghan losing one kickout, whereas up until the last 10 minutes Roscommon definitely lost more of their own kickouts than they won. And if you don't have the ball, you can't win the match.

The lack of energy throughout the team and throughout the game was baffling. Played at a pedestrian pace for the majority with loads of lateral passing once we approached the arc. I can't really remember one direct run that took a defender or 2 out of the game, totally at odds with 3 previous games.

As said previously it puts a real dampener on the year. Aside from one surprise win v Tyrone 2 years ago we have been a totally non entity in the all Ireland series for a long long time now. Really disappointing as a supporter as this year felt different, can't imagine what players and management are feeling.
