Look maybe it's just the times I fly at and the other airports I use regularly in Europe. Flew circa 80 times last year with nearly half Dublin Airport and unfortunately I just groan when I have to go through Dublin. The lounge access in Dublin I find particularly poor. Yes there are problems elsewhere and generally many of these lounge schemes have been oversold and capacity issues exist elsewhere too but my experience is Dublin is nearly always a battle bar very off peak times which of course is the same anywhere. I don't have the same experience generally in other airports and what drives me insane in Dublin is even when a lounge is at capacity they won't allow you to grab and go which often is all you need. It is undoubtedly not the worst airport ever, Grenoble for me wins that one by a country mile but that is a small useless airport run by a bunch of utter morons but of large airports that I hit regularly I just find Dublin a battle. Granted due to some of the routes I regularly use I generally use Terminal 1 more than Terminal 2 and I think Terminal 2 is better soon perhaps that tarnishes my view. The new security scanners are great so fair play there. The lounges though really I think are a bit of a joke and there just doesn't seem to be any attempt by DAA to sort it. Even the recent renovation of the Terminal 1 lounge while good on its own right meant closing the lounge for months and directing people to the already chronically over crowded Liffey Lounge where daily you could find queues of people fighting with the poor staff. Honestly I think Terminal 1 needs at least one more decent lounge to get service levels to anything approaching acceptable. The easy fix is to sacrifice one of the large retail units and it could be sorted in 3 months but is it a case of profit v customer service winning, I am sure it is.

I’ve been in quite a few UK and European airports lately and Dublin airport is by no means the worse (have seen major queues lately in Barcelona, Birmingham, Manchester and Gatwick etc through mix of status and dragon pass, couple of times status has gotten me bumped up the line!) I’d never actually thought to ask could I grab a coffee or a sandwich if full.

The Aer Lingus lounge in Dublin seems to have quietened down a bit since April but needs a revamp, it’s feeling very old and tired but I forgive it for the barista coffee and the porridge in the mornings. I wouldn’t pay full price for any of them though unless I needed very quiet corner for work as agree T1 is jammed.

All airport authorities are focused on cost and profit (and DAA to all intents and purposes is a non-profit entity anyway).

The lounges though really I think are a bit of a joke and there just doesn't seem to be any attempt by DAA to sort it

They literally just renovated and massively expanded the size of the main T1 lounge. This is nonsensical.

To be honest, unless you have a long layover, I find the concept of paying into a lounge bizarre anyway. I use them frequently as I'm a status customer, but if you are going to spend money on them you are as well off just going to one of the food outlets and getting food and drinks that way.

Dublin Airport has some of the quickest security queues even at peak, a solid on-time performance and I've never felt wanting for services at the airport. I genuinely have no idea why you hate it so much.

Agree the lounge is much improved but really they need considerably more capacity, people are already having trouble accessing it and it's just open !! There was also a 3 month plus window with no lounge !! Was there the other day and pass holders were being turned away. I do agree though paying 35 quid to access a lounge seems very odd unless you have a long layover. Like yourself I either access on a business ticket or via one of the pass schemes so it's not costing me anything per se but yeah on a normal day when you may be handing around for an hour paying 35 quid or more for a lounge doesn't seem good value to me.

Flying business with Eithad in a few weeks and have access to the Martello lounge. Having never flown business/first class before, or ever used lounges in Dublin, what can i expect?

The Martello has good apron views but is tiny

Hot breakfast buffet and staffed bar

Service on board is fine(ish) dining, lots of quality alcohol and a seat that slouches or converts to a bed at the touch of a button

It’s a very very comfortable way to fly

Aer Lingus lounge in T2 was brutal on Monday morning at 9am, I was flying BA on One World Sapphire so it was my offered option. A few cream crackers, easy singles, scones, a bit of fruit, Walkers biscuits and some cereal was the extent of what was on offer.

On top of that it looks like a storage room the way the furniture is placed haphazardly, especially the awful snot green dividers

Should have used my PP in one of the other lounges!

There is only one lounge at DUB that accepts Priority Pass now… The always overloaded T2 Liffey Lounge… the check in lady (last Sunday) informed me that the new T1 lounge would not be accepting Priority Pass - PP seem to have realized and now a restaurant voucher has appeared at T1's Garden Lounge with a EUR 23 value… better than nothing I suppose!

That lounge has been in a bad state for a while and then they went and dumped the BA passengers in there too. Last time I was there was an evening flight. There was a 'stew' that was lukewarm, barely any other food, coffee machine switched off, carpets filthy and tatty furniture. I expected they would announce an upgrade plan after 51st & Green reopened but nothing so far.

They're doing something, in so far as the showers are now out of use for unexplained works too!

    Phoniex lounge absolutely worth it.

Very nice experience and food was quite nice

Dublin Airport are saying since the refurb that PP aren't giving access to the T1 lounge (recently renovated) , this seems to be causing some heated exchanges between passengers and staff. If it's true that it's PP pulling access to that lounge that isn't good as it leaves no PP lounge in Terminal 1 at all. Liffey Lounge which in my experience is very very busy is actually in Terminal 2. Suggest if you have PP complain to PP as really not having a lounge in T1 Dublin is pathetic if it is their fault. Of course I don't know what exactly has occured and can only go on what Dublin Airport staff have told me so perhaps Dublin Airport post refurb had changed terms for PP and they pulled or perhaps it's entirely PP's fault, who knows what is happening ?? What is frustrating if you only have PP is that you used to be able to access the T1 lounge before it was refurbed.

Bottom line is it's a bit of mess for PP card holders. Of course I suspect from recent experiences that the Liffey Lounge is now under higher demand than before as PP holders are forced there (it was busy before anyway) and that will cause more problems. I can see a situation where Dragon Pass people flying out of Terminal 2 can't get Liffey Lounge as it's too busy and either don't bother or head for the Terminal 1 lounge well inside Terminal 1 !!

All a bit of shambles for customers whoever is to blame. Hopefully things improve.

So update on this Priority Pass still are not allowing people to access the new Phoenix Lounge. Was talking to a very irate customer the other day about it in the airport who was not happy and I can see why. I have a PP with one of my bank cards so emailed them. They claim to working on lounge access in Dublin Airport T1 which I assume means haggling with Dublin Airport re Phoenix Lounge access, who knows. So if you are a PP card holder and that is your only means of accessing the Phoenix Lounge would suggest you email / contact PP and make a specific complaint about lack of lounge access in Dublin Airport Terminal 1.

Phoniex is pretty much booked up with DAA sales after the €25 offer.

Their prioritizing their own sales which is their right to do. I wouldn't hold your breath, DAA can say no as long as they want.

got in this morning no problem with dragonpass via Revolut ultra and it wasn’t over busy at all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭ujjjjjjjjj

In fairness to Dublin Airport I don't think they are the problem re PP, PP seem to have decided post lounge refurbishment to not offer the T1 lounge to their customers. Commercial decision maybe but Dublin Airport are clearly saying it's PP's decision. Fortunately I get access anyway but regularly seeing disgruntled PP holders and it's causing friction with staff. From a PP holders point of view can kinda see the issue, no lounge in Terminal 1 for them. Would suggest PP card holders complain to PP not Dublin Airport.

Anyways refurbished lounge is a big improvement.

Yeah Dragonpass seems to have renewed with Dub airport but not PP. Don't think Dublin Airport are the blockers here.

Has anyone been to 51st and green recently? Heading in August this year but had heard there was refurbishment happening, not sure if this was affected?

Revolut ultras new lounge partner lounge key is not providing access to the phoenix

Only the vastly inferior tiny over crowded Liffey lounge

Dragon pass still does but at $299,it equates to about €26 per visit and you get just 10

That’s still good value versus DAA’s normal price plus you get to use the 10 visits at other airports

However a major downgrade as dragonpass with Rev ultra was unlimited and included 1 free guest

Do we really think though that there’s someone rounding up paid customers in the phoenix once they’ve done 2 hours ?

    There isn’t

    It's there in the title

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 689 ✭✭✭user060916

You can only enter 2 hours 45 minutes before your flight afair.

They're not going to kick you out if your flight is delayed though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,123 ✭✭✭pureza

Not in my experience,I’ve often been in several hours before a flight

There’s no one throwing anyone out or looking at the clock either

    It’s not policed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 689 ✭✭✭user060916

I've been refused for being too early before in Dublin in the last couple of months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,123 ✭✭✭pureza

you got a bad dragon,it happens

Never ever had an issue,in literally 100’s of visits to all of them,I’ve even arrived an hour before my booked time at the Martello

No she wasn't a lounge dragon at all, she's one of my fav on the desk.

She just explained they're more strict now especially when business. In the order of Priority Pass / Dragon Pass and similar, then bookings, then business class.

I was a direct booking that week as was flying FR, normally would be getting in through airline status
