not really, will treat it like a match day , park up sandwiches out of the boot, drive home ,won't spend a penny

It will be a strange feeling for them I'd say. For the bit I saw of them this year they weren't good enough to get out of Leinster. TJ has been a brilliant player but it might be time for him to move on. There'll probably be a bit of a clear out too in that panel I'd imagine. There'll never be a shortage of good hurlers in KK.

with the scores at the minute looks like we might not finish bottom of table in the end for once…🤷

I don't think that is anything to write home or get excited about. The fact is we still ended up with 1 point on the board out of a possible 8.

And yet we couldn't beat kilkenny in the league. Yes it's only the league, but there are teams that we should be beating and we are not.

Confidence and momentum, if we believe we are better than some teams then we should be beating them irrespective of the competition.

That was a game where we should have least got a draw. Marginal calls went against us that day. Interestingly ref that day was the same as our game against Cork in championship. Enough said!

Not really, several times we knocked over score after score and constantly allowed Kilkenny back into it after a terrible first 20 minutes. Sometimes you make your own luck.

how can you interpret that I’m or anyone is getting excited about this…..merely pointing out a fact. Bit of luck with a few decisions and injuries and season could have been a lot better. Definitely on a par with Dublin and Offaly.

league is glorified friendlies under this Munster championship format hence we beat Limerick in the league .

I don’t think anyone from Waterford is arguing for changes to championship structure because Waterford can’t get out of Munster. Waterford are not that far off the top teams as shown v Cork and Limerick this year. Bad luck with injuries and as a few argued previously about first touch and decision making in possession. Those things can be improved. Waterford will get out when they are good enough and with a bit of luck.
the issue it seems to me is 2 fold:

    1. Some counties have no more matches before May is out.
    2. There is an imbalance in strength between Munster and Leinster championships currently. You can argue that is tough luck for the 2 who don’t get out of Munster

However with Tipp and Kilkenny both out I expect changes ;-)

I don't like the format for several reasons. Firstly it increases the risk of missing players through injury. Secondly as shown today games can be dead rubbers without jeopardy. Third it increases the expense for fans going to games. Lastly I personally just don't get the same buzz with games, because it's so condensed the hype doesn't build in the same way.

I also always associated hurling with the summer, now most counties are out before summer even starts.

Most counties being out by the end of May has been the norm for the vast majority of hurling history.

As for more expensive for fans. Ffs you want tweams to not be k locked out early but also have some way fans don't have any games to go to.

Being out before end of May was not the norm since the back door was introduced in 1997.

We'll be watching the rest of the championship. Just because we're out doesn't mean we won't enjoy the rest of the hurling year

That kind of common sense talk doesn’t go down well in these parts .

3 all Irelands in last ten years I think for Tipperary , yet they seem to be in meltdown over this years campaign . Is their a sense of entitlement with Tipperary fans . Everybody else would love those problems .

Yet the teams making it to the league final are more than often the teams making to All Ireland Semi Finals/Finals in recent years.

Giving the short amount of time between league and championship, league allows you to build momentum and confidence heading into championship.

2023, Limerick V kilkenny league final, Limerick V kilkenny All Ireland final

2024, Clare V Kilkenny league final, Clare V Cork All Ireland final (KK losing the AI semi final by 2 points)

2025, Tipp V Cork League final, Tipp V Cork All Ireland final.

2026, Limerick V Cork League final. Let's see how the AI final fares out.

It was clear as day that Limerick were using this year's league as a championship warm up due to them having no game in the opening round of munster and they drove on to make the final so they wouldn't have such a long break between league and Munster championship.

While the league is the league, I think we as supporters had little optimism going into the championship after only defeating Limerick and offaly, a hammering from cork and disappointing performances in other games, yet sitting on 1 point in Munster with a -19 score difference we feel we are almost there.

I think more needs to be done in the build up to the championship, we need to be beating the teams that we feel we should be beating. I personally believe we should be or are at least be capable of beating Tipperary and Kilkenny, we have a league campaign where we beat Limerick, Tipperary, Kilkenny and offaly and we enter the championship very confident in ourselves.

A lot of the time this about mentality and consistency which we are lacking.

Well we won’t get to find that out next year given we’ll be hurling in 1B against second tier opposition but I suppose we should come into championship with plenty of wins under the belt. We’d seriously want to be doing something wrong to not go straight back up to 1A given the shambles Wexford are in and a home tie against what will probably be our toughest game v Offaly.

Next years 1A and 1B is arguably pretty much perfectly reflective of the hurling landscape at the moment in that the actual top 7 teams will be in 1A the next 7 in 1B.

Anyone else feel the Munster championship was a bit of a let down this year, game wise, even yesterday, both Cork and Limerick blew the opposition away

Clare V Wat, Clare 6 point win

Tipp V Cork, Cork 4 point win

Cork V Limerick, Cork 2 point win

    Wat V Tipp, Draw

Clare V Limerick, Lim 12 point win

Wat V Cork, Cork 4 point win

Tipp V Clare, Clare 11 point win

Limerick V Waterford, Lim 9 point win

Cork V Clare, Cork 16 point win

Limerick V Tipp, Lim 17 point win.

With the exception of our draw and Limerick V Cork they rest of the games were not great.

Scoreline in Clare vs Waterford and Limerick vs Waterford not a reflection of our effort

Prob a reason why Queally and co could get another year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,404 ✭✭✭914

It is a reflection, we were with them with about 10 minutes to go and then got blown out of it.

I am not doubting the effort, but the score line is the score line.

From a Limerick point of view the game against Cork was the only really good day out. Game was good, weather was nice and Cork was hoping after.

J always love battering Clare but it pssed rain afterwards and the mood in Ennis was obviously as gloomy as the weather. Waterford was played in a storm which feels like months ago now sitting in 30oC and it was a great game from either side. Tipp was like being at a testimonial or charity match. Party atmosphere is great in a way but it should have been a heart thumping match.

Clare vs Waterford was the only non Limerick match I felt excited about.

I don't care about the Munster vs Leinster shte though so it's a great championship as long as one side produces and Leinster has been historic.

Waterford very unlucky this year should have beaten kilkenny and stayed up and gave every team they played in munster a hard match waterford in my opinion are a much better team than clare and tipp.look at the hammering s clare got of limk and cork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,404 ✭✭✭914

Yet we could only muster a point between Clare and Tipperary, therefore is it a case we raise our game/standards for stronger teams or we can't cope with the expectation of beating other teams?

We were brutal in the first half V Tipp so the second half seemed to come from a "nothing to lose" perspective.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,475 ✭✭✭seananigans

we get to go into 1b with a genuine belief of winning all our games, and winning a final.

We further get to have nothing but competitive matches till championship starts, no friendlies.

We also get to do the one thing that has been severely lacking in waterford , manage our player welfare roatate players out, train people in as backups in competitive games , and with a little luck go into championship with all our best players fit .

Being in 1B offers huge opportunities we wouldn't have in 1A

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,404 ✭✭✭914

We had the same setup in 1B in 2025 and finished bottom of Munster with 2 points after defeating a poor Clare team in the opening round.

The excuse then was, we didn't have enough competitive games in 1B heading into Munster.

There's 2 parts to winning a poker hand.

    1. What hand you are dealt
    2. How you play that hand

This goes to show, anytime we win a title we really need to enjoy it.
