I’m back in today and you can actually see planes from the window seats

I presume this BA tail is parked up at the 335 gate ?

(The dinnertime food spread today is impressive, quite a few hot options and delicious plus a sandwich spread and an awful lot of cakes, the draft Guinness and Rockshore you do not pay for at the bar either, just the cocktails which are €8)

Only thing about DAA lounges is if you want to relax and have a few drinks before a flight, the 2 limit is very off putting. Good to see the food spread being improved but other areas need improving.

Have Liffey lounge booked next month, purely because i fly around lunchtime, the cold food options in that lounge will be fine and if i want a few drinks it's self serve from the fridges, nobody keeping tabs on you.

Currently a 25e offer on at the moment for lounges at airport

I have to say I was very impressed with the Phoenix lounge. The food in the evening was quite nice. The gnocchi were very tasty, also a curry and chicken and veg. Nice wraps, sandwiches, cheese. It’s very big and spacious. They said they had 2,000 people booked in on Friday!

There was no 2 drinks rule, nor did I see that stated anywhere. I had a prosecco, two Guinness and a Jameson!

    Definitely worth the €35 imo

This is the kinda review that sells a spot! Cheers!

I've got a two leg journey on BA coming up - the first in economy to LHR, then business class onwards from there. Both on BA flights and not codeshares.

Has anyone gotten into any of the Dublin lounges on a similar itinerary? Google is telling me that since my second leg is business class on the same calendar day, and on IAG, I should have access to the Aer Lingus lounge, but it doesn't seem too definitive.

edit: I just found this on the oneworld site for anyone else in a similar situation:

"Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights: First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa)."

My second flight is only 4 hours but I'll chance my arm I guess, hopefully they have some flexibility.

2nd time I've now been refused entry to the phoenix lounge because they aren't accepting dragon pass. Only got in once. It's so huge I don't know how they are at capacity.

    The martello also.

They are accepting the dragon pass on Revolut ultra,no problem

Martello has never accepted dragon pass, nor has it been offered as an available lounge

Here’s what appears on mine as options

if you bought them as a single business class ticket, you should be fine.

If you bought the first leg independently as an economy fare, I think computer will say no.

+1 on this, I’d be surprised if they let you in. They’ve become very strict on these things.

Yes, the salary is enormous, I understand that, but that doesn't affect my soul.

The lounges in Dublin Airport are all pretty average at best, they are also busy and often you are confronted with issues getting in due to over crowding. In recent months the Terminal 1 lounge has been closed for renovation which forced people back to the already busy Terminal 2 lounges which are a long walk. Terminal 1 lounge has now reopened but there are problems with some airport passes now not being accepted and Terminal 2 Liffey Lounge is being over used. Dublin Airport seems to view Loungekey, Dragonpass, Priority Pass etc as a bit of nuisance. Have been confronted recently with queues, long waits to get into lounges and have witnessed arguments between staff and passengers. Lounges are meant to be a pleasant experience, in Dublin Airport it often turns into a battle. The airport is bursting at the seams , especially Terminal 1 and way over capacity IMHO. Whoever in the DAA thinks this is the way to run an airport is clearly not doing a good job but it also linked to decades of bad planning and lack of foresight in Dublin Airport IMHO. Personally I couldn't recommend paying for a lounge in Dublin Airport , just save the money and treat yourself elsewhere.

Probably because of the recent €25 offer which they sold alot of so their prioritising pre booked and walk up DAA payment over pass schemes, which is their right to do

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭ujjjjjjjjj

IMHO - That is correct and exactly what they are doing. They want to sell as many entries as they can from their own website etc and basically happy then to stop pass holders getting in but then again happy to milk pass holders (as they get paid anyway for every pass holder visit but just a little less as they are group discounts) when the airport is quiet late in the evening etc. It's basically DAA running an airport to fleece people as much as they can and not worry about providing quality service or customer support. A properly run airport will have enough lounge capacity to cope with peak demand and it should value any form of pass holder as they are likely quite regular flyers. But this mentality is typical of the DAA, customers are there to be milked and treated like cattle. Even in many of the UK airports which are quite busy and notoriously crowded lounge access I think is easier. I often access lounges with a business ticket but also have a Priority Pass and Dragon Pass through card schemes. I was in Edinburgh on business recently and Edinburgh airport is quite old and had access to THREE lounges via Priority Pass for example and they have in total 4 lounges in a terminal which carries fewer passengers than Dublin Airport Terminal 1 does annually !! And they are all large lounges. Just checked the Priority pass app there now and it shows no lounges available in Dublin Airport Terminal 1 and the tiny 'Liffey Lounge' which is a really poor small lounge as the only option in Terminal 2. I understand Priority Pass may be at fault here too but do wonder is the greed of the DAA a core factor too.

The core issue here looks to me that the DAA just haven't got enough lounges or even close to it due to years of bad management and planning and that the view in the DAA is just to use lounges to milk whatever they can from passengers and not give a toss about providing a quality service. They are happy to run them at full capacity permanently with no regard to frequent flyers.

In my experience UK lounges can be even worse.

What annoys me about Dublin lounge though is when they're busy and not accepting priority pass they would never just scan me in and allow me to grab a sandwich and go.

They get paid, I get a sandwich and no extra seats are taken. I've done it in plenty of lounges around the world but Dublin seems to be 100% against it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭ujjjjjjjjj

Don't disagree some of the UK lounges can be bad and busy too but my general experience is Dublin is pretty much up there with the very worst places for lounges and I travel a lot. It is consistently bad in Dublin and getting worse IMHO. I don't think we should be aspiring to be as good as the worst UK airports !! Do think the simple lack of lounge capacity in Dublin Airport is the primary cause and that ultimately is the DAA at fault.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭ujjjjjjjjj

Your point re not being able to grab a sandwich also very valid…….have done this many times in busy lounges overseas but in Dublin forget about it. It's bizarre.

I meant to write the liffey lounge. Yes they are accepting dragon pass when they aren't 'busy' which for two weekends in a row they were

Daa lounges looked like zoos on Friday while the EI lounge was fairly calm. Showers out of action though and the food as meh as always

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,124 ✭✭✭pureza

must be the €25 offer currently on

Though it’s hard to imagine the phoenix so busy that you can’t get a seat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭ujjjjjjjjj

Bar in very quiet times (late just before closing) or mid morning on a Tuesday in January the DAA lounges in my experience are always packed, busy and with often restricted access. At times it's debatable whether the appalling mess that is Terminal 1 is preferable with the lounges being so over crowded. There just isn't enough lounge capacity and the airport is bursting at the seams generally. Terminal 1 in particular is just horrendous. It's all falls at the door of the DAA who just can't seem to plan ahead and ensure good levels of service for customers. They just view passengers as a nuisance to extract vast quantities of cash out of be it through parking, crap oversold lounges and over capacity gates.

Overpacked lounges is an issue in every airport these days with the likes of Dragon pass, priority pass etc. , it's not just a DAA thing.

I hate to sound like a boot licker for the DAA but have the serial "Dublin airport is the worst airport I've ever been in" complainers ever been to another airport or have they just found flights that loop straight back to Dublin or do the same Dublin - Zurich leg every week? I've had more positive experiences than bad going through the airport. The modern security scanners in particular make a huge difference. I've yet to take advantage of the lifting of liquid restrictions though because the airports I've been returning from don't have their **** together.

I mean the airport itself isn't my holiday destination so it doesn't take much to keep me happy other than get me through bag drop quickly and security quickly and have a half-reasonable selection of refreshments before the gate. But nearly every other European airport I've been to in the past year has failed to deliver on those meagre expectations so not sure where "Dublin is the worst one" comes from.

I have to say this description is completely alien to me. I find Dublin Airport efficient and broadly pleasant. The new lounge is obviously a vast improvement with higher higher capacity so they are investing in the passenger experience but all airports struggle with lounge capacity. Even status lounges that don't admit others frequently have this problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,573 ✭✭✭Blut2

Its a single ticket, not two independently booked ones. But the first flight to LHR is economy and second flight is in business.

The oneworld site does say the scenario would be fine as long as the second flight is over 5 hours. So we'll see I guess, I'm not a huge amount off that time-wise. And its not a peak time of day so fingers crossed.

It's an airport's job to get as much money from the people passing through it.

I've no loyalty to anyone or any airport , but DAA are actively trying to improve the experience of their customers.

I'm a casual flyer , but in my limited experience Dublin isn't the worst, not even the worst in Ireland but again it's the opinion of an infrequent flyer

it seems to be up to the mood of whoever is on the desk these days.

I hope you get it, what I’m saying is don’t go EXPECTING it and then you won’t be disappointed if you don’t.

Yes, the salary is enormous, I understand that, but that doesn't affect my soul.

Oh absolutely, my attitude is just I'll chance it and we'll see what happens. But its definitely worth trying at least I think now based on those oneworld guidelines.

I was just curious if anyone here had been in a similar situation and how they'd gotten on.
