Given the ever growing popularity of EVs is the fast charging infrastructure inline with demand and is it likely to remain so?

Right now one of the few things pushing me to keep my order for the long range is in the current job I do have to do some long trips from Balbriggan to Cork or Galway. However, it's usually only once or twice a year.

With standard for trip to Cork I would likely need to fast charge down and back. What is the likelihood I would turn up at a fast charger and be in a long queue to get access or it's out of service?

Would I be thinking I should have got long range so I'm not late for work appointments in trip down?

I have a 2025 standard range and regularly to a trip from Dublin to Limerick and only stop on the way back at the supercharger in Birdhill for a quick top and on my way again.

I know what you mean about the interior but you can get pretty good leather car seat covers. We make frequent trips to the beach and my 4 year old is non verbal and autistic. She will be kicking and burying sand into them seats so I'll need seat covers whether I go with standard or LR.

The new fabric seats are…..fabulous.

The standard will be perfect for your outlier couple of trips per year to Cork.

I cover about 40000 kms a year to all parts of the country and the standard range 60kw/h LFP battery has never left me feeling I wanted or needed more. Charging on the road with a Tesla is simply not an issue in my experience.

That may change as more Teslas appear, but there are also more superchargers appearing too.

8.5K in the (net) difference now. You have to jump to a premium model which starts at 45k now. Some switch up in pricing indeed.

I've just noticed that Tesla website says price excluded SEAI Grant of €3500.00. so if I also get €2000.00 for trading in my old golf is standard model 3 about €31.5k and long range about €41.5k?

34.4k for the standard, and 43k for the LR after the trade-in booster applied.

Beware that the trade in booster really only makes sense if your car to be traded in is worth less than the value of the incentive - in this case 2k - and the lower the value the better (ideally as close to zero as possible) as you will be savaged on the trade in.

When I traded in my 2022 Model 3 RWD with Tesla at end of February they offered a fair price. About 1-1.5k less than I probably would have taken privately, but a lot less hassle. The 3.5k trade-in bonus, at the time, on top of my trade-in price made it well worthwhile.

Talking of my previous 2022 WX registered car, I have never seen it advertised for sale. Either Tesla are keeping for themselves or there was already a sale for it without advertising (More likely).

Follow up question on my trade in issue/query - Rang Tesla but the UK guy couldn't help me at all. Rang finance Ireland and a Tesla expert said that when collecting the M3, Tesla Cork will either send me the quoted 22450e for my car or send me the 22450e minus the minimum PCP deposit of 11900e, so 10550e.

Is this how its handled on collection day with Tesla? The trade in value being handled as its own transaction to the actual Tesla being purchased?

I also can't complete the trade in steps in app as the app is looping on the damage section which is a pain. Got my estimate by submitting separately and then linking to my order by the Irish team.

On a separate note, chatgpt is suggesting a zappi is better for me than the Tesla wall charger as I have solar panels installed and the Tesla wall charger can't distinguish between power from solar and from the grid.

Is this true?

I would like to set it up so I can charge by solar only in summer some weekdays when it's clear skies and if clouds come it just stops charging and doesn't pull from the grid.

I know of course I will have to plug in and charge pulling from grid at some point in the week but would like to top up for free using the solar also.
