Do. Despite the "customer service", it's a great car.
My last three cars before my Tesla were two BMW diesels and a Golf Gti. One day, I'll get a classic petrol hot hatch but my every day will be an EV from here on in. And the Tesla is a great drive, you won't regret it.
Given the ever growing popularity of EVs is the fast charging infrastructure inline with demand and is it likely to remain so?
Right now one of the few things pushing me to keep my order for the long range is in the current job I do have to do some long trips from Balbriggan to Cork or Galway. However, it's usually only once or twice a year.
With standard for trip to Cork I would likely need to fast charge down and back. What is the likelihood I would turn up at a fast charger and be in a long queue to get access or it's out of service?
Would I be thinking I should have got long range so I'm not late for work appointments in trip down?
I think I'll place order for LR today. Tbh, I would be ok with standard range but really want the premium interior.
Was thinking getting used one but very little interest on my current car so it will be just easier to trade in with Tesla directly.
Charge to 100% before leaving and you'll get to pretty much anywhere in Cork or Galway on a single charge. Stop on the way down to top up if it suits, and if they're busy head on and stop on the way back.
Sorry for the above, are you saying this shoukd be doable for standard or more so only in long range version?
I have a 2025 standard range and regularly to a trip from Dublin to Limerick and only stop on the way back at the supercharger in Birdhill for a quick top and on my way again. Download ABRP app.
Doable in the standard
I know what you mean about the interior but you can get pretty good leather car seat covers. We make frequent trips to the beach and my 4 year old is non verbal and autistic. She will be kicking and burying sand into them seats so I'll need seat covers whether I go with standard or LR.
I actually like the fabric/leather seats more than the full leather ones.
A few other things I prefer in the standard too but will see in practice in the coming weeks.
The new fabric seats are…..fabulous.
A real step up in shape and finish over the older (pre-highland, pre-Juniper) interior.
The standard will be perfect for your outlier couple of trips per year to Cork.
I cover about 40000 kms a year to all parts of the country and the standard range 60kw/h LFP battery has never left me feeling I wanted or needed more. Charging on the road with a Tesla is simply not an issue in my experience.
That may change as more Teslas appear, but there are also more superchargers appearing too.
If that trip is ever in winter, and because it's for work, then I would go with the LR. So that even in the unlikely event of queues at chargers on the way down, you will still be able to make it on your home charge to 100%. You need 10% left in the battery if you're going to be leaving it for the whole day before topping back up.
Once or twice a year though?
I do those journeys every other week, there is no issue on that route whatsoever.
Given that there is what... 6k in the difference and you can easily make that journey on the standard rwd then id save the money.
8.5K in the (net) difference now. You have to jump to a premium model which starts at 45k now. Some switch up in pricing indeed.
We go from Drogheda to West Cork three or four times per year (400kms each way).
One stop at Ballacolla is required (fifteen minutes usually does it - enough time for a coffee stop) and we may stop in Mahon Point if travelling around Cork itself).
I've never seen a queue in Ballacolla even on Bank Holiday weekends. I've has waits in Mahon Point but never more than 10/15 mins.
I've just noticed that Tesla website says price excluded SEAI Grant of €3500.00. so if I also get €2000.00 for trading in my old golf is standard model 3 about €31.5k and long range about €41.5k?
No, the headline price doesn't incl the grant or VRT.
When you click the cash tab then you will see the actual nett price.
34.4k for the standard, and 43k for the LR after the trade-in booster applied.
Beware that the trade in booster really only makes sense if your car to be traded in is worth less than the value of the incentive - in this case 2k - and the lower the value the better (ideally as close to zero as possible) as you will be savaged on the trade in.
Tesla actually gave me the best quote for my car. 3k over what other online trade in places offered. I could get more selling private but it would sit for awhile and dealing with people to sell privately ain't for me.
Once I figure out trade in with pcp then I'll be going for them.
The 2K trade in bonus comes off the price of the car so the monthly payments drop in line too.
When I traded in my 2022 Model 3 RWD with Tesla at end of February they offered a fair price. About 1-1.5k less than I probably would have taken privately, but a lot less hassle. The 3.5k trade-in bonus, at the time, on top of my trade-in price made it well worthwhile.
Talking of my previous 2022 WX registered car, I have never seen it advertised for sale. Either Tesla are keeping for themselves or there was already a sale for it without advertising (More likely).
https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/changeOwnership.do
You can check if it's been registered to a new owner in the last 6 weeks
Says no change of ownership in last 6 weeks..
Should have been transferred to a motor dealer (i.e. Tesla) immediately you handed it over, no?
Normally that doesn’t get recorded so won’t show up on the public motor tax site.
The junker I fired into Tesla last week as a trade-in was notified the next day on motortax.ie so I was thinking it was standard practice?
Surely the customer doesn't want the old car hanging around in their name for a minute after the deal is done?
When a dealer takes a car as trade, they log in online and “take ownership” but that doesn’t normally show on the public site. The dealer can then transfer to a new owner online too.
I wonder if somebody took ownership of your car through the trade in network or was it scrapped?
I just saw a "transferred to a motor dealer" on the website, the day after leaving it with them.
Most likely it was scrapped yes, it was a heap.
Follow up question on my trade in issue/query - Rang Tesla but the UK guy couldn't help me at all. Rang finance Ireland and a Tesla expert said that when collecting the M3, Tesla Cork will either send me the quoted 22450e for my car or send me the 22450e minus the minimum PCP deposit of 11900e, so 10550e. Is this how its handled on collection day with Tesla? The trade in value being handled as its own transaction to the actual Tesla being purchased? I also can't complete the trade in steps in app as the app is looping on the damage section which is a pain. Got my estimate by submitting separately and then linking to my order by the Irish team.
They can't make much even on the scrap right? I'm not sure if it's common but chatgpt was saying that sometimes people buy an old car just for the bonus. So buy a heap of junk that just about has at least 1 month NCT for €500 and you get €2000 off the purchase price. It seems mad, you would think in such circumstances the Tesla dealer could just apply the bonus without any junk heap to trade less any scrap value they would have got.
On a separate note, chatgpt is suggesting a zappi is better for me than the Tesla wall charger as I have solar panels installed and the Tesla wall charger can't distinguish between power from solar and from the grid.
Is this true?
I would like to set it up so I can charge by solar only in summer some weekdays when it's clear skies and if clouds come it just stops charging and doesn't pull from the grid.
I know of course I will have to plug in and charge pulling from grid at some point in the week but would like to top up for free using the solar also.
