I didn't realise, I could get a third party to do up a Sad, many garages up North point blank won't supply them, or simply have not heard of Tss or Sad. I'm of the opinion that Ni cars advertised as Vrt ready.. Ie on a Ni plate or can supply a sad do, might sell for a higher price, because they have a larger captive audience

They just have an agent that carries out the import declaration. Not a costly exercise at all. Circa £60, and they are plentiful.

Thanks I contacted a customs clearance agent, I explained why I would need a SAD document . they mentioned "a SAD doc is an indicator duty and VAT has been paid at point of entry if for example a dealer in NI imports a car from mainland UK. They also mentioned if the dealer has no intention of selling the car to ROI, they therefore do not need to pay Duty and Vat, and therefore there wont be a SAD doc

If however the dealer , does intend to sell the car to ROI, then duty and Vat would need to be paid by the dealer , and hence a SAD could be issued "

    Are they correct ?

Exactly. Hence it's an extra cost on the dealer to move it on to ROI so there's a fee involved for the SAD process to be conducted.

I assume if they do this (pay NI VAT at point of entry) they can claim back English VAT?
    Or am I misuderstanding

Not sure, but one thing is certain, very difficult to get NI dealers to supply SAD or TSS docs

I am in a similar situation with saltmarine. Did they charged any amount for SAD certificate? They are asking £500 for me to get a SAD certificate.

I wonder is feasible for a customer to get the reg , contact a customs agent, and get a SAD

No you cannot claim back uk vat, pay tge Irish or NI vat and import the car. If ypu know so.eone with an Irish vat number there is a work arou d for them providing they are reselling the car to you

I'm fairly sure CR Morrow said the charge was £200 or £300, I can't quite remember the exact figure but when I went to view and subsequently collect the car the head sales rep said it was included in the price. I therefore was not charged anything other than the sticker price.

In addition the CR Morrow car prices are usually a little lower than SaltMarine

Got my plates for the new car today. Final bill for registering the car came to €11.20

As a reminder in my case the car had GB plates and was only imported into NI by the dealer a week or so before I bought it. They arranged the SAD and the rest was just your standard car buying transaction. I paid with a Revolut card.

Brought the car for the VRT check and that went smoothly. The model itself wasn't on Revenues database so a return visit today was needed to complete the process. If the cars model is on their database then there's no return visit needed.

I'll tax it on Monday when the pin works.

Nearly 3,000km done between VRT visits, she's a dream to drive.

The cost of the SAD was baked into the price you paid though, so it really is an extra cost. Albeit not much.

What was the model variant that wasn't on the Revenue's list? It's hardly something like a wording difference is it?

Is it similar to this June 2024 reg'd for £24k (about €27.5k) and would only €11.20 vrt.

    Two questions:

Did you have to get an a customs agent?

And how long before getting an appt for paying/registering the car?

    TIA

well in one email the sales rep said it would be £350 for the SAD (which the SAD records as the fee payable to the customs agent so the dealer isn't adding a mark-up which is good to know) but when I was in the showroom the senior sales rep said it was baked in to the sale price of £19.5k which is what I paid in total. The variant is the Premium which is similar in spec, if not the same, as the Executive Plus here.

You don't need a customs agent and appointment times vary depending on where you are in the country and can easily be checked online

In 2023 the Premium was upgraded. It came with 4kWh more battery, heat pump as standard and a few other bits and pieces. If you hang tight a 2024 will eventually pop up for 22 or 23k sterling.

Once you have the SAD you don't need a customs agent. The seller will contact a customs agent in order to process the SAD. It took a few hours from the dealer requesting it to the dealer receiving it. I then took the car home and booked a VRT inspection making sure I had the documentation requested by Revenue - documents the dealer would supply e.g. receipt, V5C and of course the SAD. I could have had an appointment within 24 hours if I needed it, however due to work I selected a date a few days later.

I'd recommend CR Morrow, they picked me up from Newry train station, answered every query and provided a print out of the battery health (100%) which I verified with my own dongle, the digital service history including important campaigns to do with the ICCU etc. I used gemini to tell me what the campaign codes referred to.

    HI

Does anyone have any recommendations of someone that does EV car inspections in NI?

Planning to buy a second hand ( 1 year old ) ID4 pretty soon and no idea what to or how to inspect it

Also - if there’s been warranty work done on it would I be correct to expect this to be documented …?

    Secondhand import from the UK

thanks for any advice or DMs

    Tut

    Don’t count on the documentation.
It really depends on what the past owner kept (paper wise) and then kept with the car when trading in.

Then you are relying on the selling dealer to leave that paperwork in the car ( Irish dealers won’t sue to GDPR), I’m not sure of the NI dealers.

You could call the main dealer and give the reg/vin and they may give you a brief outline of what it got done but they are under no obligation to do so.

thanks for that. If anyone has a Reco for anyone that does inspections please let me know

@User1998 Can I please seek your expertise? I got a electric car from dealer in Belfast - got the New Keepers slip, have the Tax receipt in NI and the MOT proof in NI. The trader filled in the export section and sent the V5C to DVLA. I didnt get the V5C on my address in RoI, and am stuck now for VRT.

When the export section of V5C is filled out and sent to DVLA - do the new keeper in RoI get a V5C at all?
