If that’s the case, then another competition would make sense as likely wouldn't meet quotas from this one, numbers mentioned for 2026 were around 300 intake

Still, it’s hard to believe 90% of applicants are already out of the running—though not completely unfathomable.

I remember seeing that anyone who passes all stages from the 2024 competition would still be offered training, even if a new competition starts.

"The first cohort of 19 successful candidates entered Templemore in 2025, and 17 of these attested in November 2025. A further class of Garda Reserves currently in training, and additional intakes, will commence training in 2026. I also understand that An Garda Síochána are engaging with Publicjobs in relation to the possible scheduling of the next recruitment competition for those interested in applying to join the Garda Reserve".

What an absolute piss take and kick in the balls for everyone still left in limbo with the 2024 campaign.

Currently they haven't even trained more than 50 reserves out of 1800 applicants since 2024.

How the Minister thinks its going to double to 600 in 2026 defies logic with the first training of 2026 provisionally set for May or June subject to a miracle 🙏

i see in the full time members. some are had applied in 2023 and got the go ahead and still waiting on vetting and some that applied in january of this year have got start dates of october.

i think of dublin or any big city that numbers are required more your vetting most surely be pushed up in the queue .

if your based in the middle of no place like my home u not be a top pick lol .

can only guess that’s how it is .

it should be more like the uk . when people volunteer and all pass all the background checks they will take as many as they can get . after all it’s your one time and money and family life u are giving up .

I’d love to know why only 17 out of 19 attested, why did two people drop off I wonder!

@Marty1476 18 from group one attested. 17 on the day and another one a week later as had previous commitments on the day of attestation. 18 definitely through from intake 250.

With 228 candidates now confirmed as being in vetting, it would be interesting to know whether this represents the full remainder of the competition, or if there are still 2024 batches yet to progress to the vetting stage.
I see a considerable amount of people on the forum have deleted their accounts

Has any one been told they are unaccepted / or not passed vetting yet?

From what’s been mentioned here so far, it doesn’t seem that anyone has been directly told they were unsuccessful or failed vetting, as you’d imagine someone would likely have posted about it. However, with a large number of people no longer active on the forum and only around 30 having been called so far, it may suggest that some are no longer in the process, either because they withdrew themselves or did not progress past a stage.

you could fail vetting on the most little thing . i also think the sation interview has a lot to say about a person. maybe somepeople don’t pass that part

It is understood that the station interview is primarily intended to clarify or discuss any matters arising from the vetting process, after which a recommendation is made as to whether a candidate should proceed. Final approval would then rest with the Commissioner’s Office:

Many candidates have now been waiting for over a year since their station interview. While I have been very pleased with the outcome at each stage of the process, I am considering withdrawing due to the prolonged delay and lack of engagement with candidates.

I remain passionate about community work and had viewed this opportunity as a meaningful way to contribute further.

If anyone is really interested in a way to serve their community, they could consider joining a Community First Responder group in their locality. They will get trained and have continuous training. When qualified, You will be notified by the national ambulance service to a medical incident (heart attack, cardiac arrest, Stroke, choking) and you decide if you are in a position to respond. You will be supplied with a medical bag with an AED, and uniform. Its a great service, and would work well alongside being a GR. Look up -
