I did, reported it and a thread they'd opened about a WhatsApp group, and that seems to have disappeared now.

    All very odd.

I am planning to start on injections just need final ok from gastroenterologist. My GP suggested wygovy due to cost and obviously I have to get ok from medical experts but is anyone here on it and if so, how are you getting on?

I got the message, seems to have been deleted.

There are fake MJ pens doing the rounds apparently so I'd be wary about unknown sources.

I've just changed supplier from Corrys to Meigh Pharmacy in Newry. They also don't deliver and you have to organise DPD yourself, but they're also slightly cheaper than Corrys. £319 for 15mg, plus approx £10 for delivery, as opposed to £340 which included delivery from Corrys.

@LastApacheInjun can you pm me their contact details please?

    That’s 8.6kg,

Still need to loose another 9/10

    But on track

I was with corrys. 5mg was 230 euro. Ordered Sunday night with bolt pharmacy in the UK. Delivery to North Organised to be forwarded onto me. An post will deliver in morning. 7.5mg only 230 euro. Saved a good bit on 7.5mg in the north.

I've a referral code if anyone wants to try.

This week I've struggled. If your struggling have you moved up or do you stick out the dose while losing. I'm down 47lb in 12 weeks. 5 weeks 2.5 the rest on 5

@Janome does the pharmacy organise postage from the North to the Republic?

The problem with ordering from "mainland" UK is that you have to get it delivered to a parcel forwarding service, like Border Parcel Motel in Belcoo. Then you have to wait for BPM to contact you once your package arrives, and pay another £10 to get it delivered to the Republic.

Lots of the online ordering services make you sign up to a subscription, which means you have to buy a pen every month. If, like me, you count clicks and take a lesser dose, it means you have more to pay upfront, because you'd have to buy your high dose pen every month. You can of course build up a supply of pens over a few months, and then take a break from the subscription, but it's definitely more money up front.

Lastly, if you are in maintenance like me, they don't let you order the high doses, which makes it less value. When I worked it all out with ordering from Bolt/Pillsorted/Oushk and in the end it was cheaper to just buy from the North. And less hassle. It might be worth it if you are at the start of your journey and working your way up the doses.

I started wegovy back in Jan. Did 4wks at .25mg and had no real side effects. Lost 7lb in those first 4 weeks. I have taken my 4th dose of .5mg two days ago and i have another 7lb lost. So a stone gone which I'm very happy with. I've had some pretty horrible side effects after the last two doses, nausea and upset tummy, but just lasted a day each time and then was ok again. Have noticed a huge reduction in food noise and appetite is lessened. Due to order prescription for 1mg dose next week, I'm hoping that the side effects won't get any worse.

Has anyone had experience using a Mounjaro pen beyond the 30-day guidance, for example when adjusting doses? Did you notice any change in effectiveness, and how long did the pen remain usable for you?

I work in biotech, now others may call waffle but we do stability and efficacy studies for a reason and it’s not to rip people off.. it’s to make sure the product works as expected

As a follow up to this, I had a body composition Dexa yesterday which put my body fat at 21.3% (vs 15.7% on BIA analysis - so good, but not as good as I hoped!) but also underscored very high muscularity - it doesn't measure muscle directly but Lean Mass Index and Appendicular Lean Mass Index both seem to be 95th+ percentile for 50+ yo men indicating a very strong build. Given a lack until relatively recently of any training besides walking, I guess hauling 300lbs+ around for years has its advantages…. Reckon I'll aim to lose maybe another 10 - 15lbs (to about 190 - 195lbs) and draw a line then.

Type 2 diabetic been on and off Ozempic due to complications and availability over the last few years. Currently have taken 2nd .25mg dose and am due next one on Thursday Currently weight is 118kg and hba1c is also 118 😱

Have struggled with stopping and starting the medication and consultant believes .5mg is probably what I will be able to tolerate.

Three years ago while taking it I dropped to 109kg and have struggling weight for most of my life being 165+ in my 20s 153kg in 2009 when I was diagnosed with type 2. I have multiple complications now unmanageable and need to lose weight in order for a better chance of pain management and quality of life improvements.

    Sorry for the essay guys.

I use my pens for eight to ten weeks. I keep them in the fridge, and have never noticed any drop in efficacy with the later doses.

When discussed with my GP he confirmed that it was safe to use the pen for about two months, but that some people might find that the later doses don't work as well. I've never found that but I'm sure other people have.

I don't mean to contradict you Deep Thought, I'm sure there are good reasons for the advice to chuck the pen after 34 days (or whatever the recommendation is). And I'm not a scientist or work in pharma, and I probably would follow the letter of the law for all other medications. But this medication is so expensive, and I'm not sure I could afford it if I couldn't count the clicks and take a smaller dose from a high dose pen, thus making the pen last longer. And the benefits to my health of staying on the medication - in my opinion - vastly outweigh any concerns about the medication not working as well as it should for the last two or three doses from the pen. Better that it works at 50% for three out of ten weeks, then me have to stop taking the medication altogether and being back where I started.

Christ there's some dodgy **** going on out there. Just shows you never to buy pens from anyone unofficially - they're likely other people's empty pens filled with water (hopefully only water).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,954 ✭✭✭Deep Thought

It’s very dodgy , that’s why I would also be concerned about the “golden dose” people refer to, the risk of contamination of the product is to me a concern.

I dont think anyone proposes it's waffle. But the efficacy doesn't fall off a cliff on day 31.
If something is say 90% effective after 30 days, how effective is it, roughly, after 40 days?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,198 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Good job, that's a much more plausible figure. I wouldn't take it as being unfortunate that you're not 15%, but rather positive confirmation that you're a very decent 21%.

Carry 300lbs all the time is a lot of work. Imagine having to carry 100lbs everywhere now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭LastApacheInjun

Is the contamination risk to do with contamination that might get into the fluid from the hole made by the pen needle?

The manufacturers guidelines say that the pen should be discarded 30 days after the first injection. So if you take Dose 1 on Day 1, Dose 2 on Day 8, Dose 3 on Day 15, Dose 4 on Day 22, you're well within the manufacturer's guidelines to take a fifth dose on Day 29. Why in God's name would you waste it?

Eli Lilly & Company will be introducing a visual and structural update in the Mounjaro Kwikpen.

The KwikPen device has been modified to reduce leftover medicine and make it easier to track that the final dose has been administered, indicating that the pen is ready to be discarded.

The modified KwikPen works the same way as the initial device.

Current Mounjaro KwinPen vs new Mounjaro KwikPen

Current Mounjaro KwinPen vs new Mounjaro KwikPen

The initial and modified Mounjaro KwikPens are both disposable multi-dose single-patient-use pre-filled pens, containing the volume of solution necessary for priming before each injection and the delivery of 4 fixed 0.6mL doses (one dose administered weekly).

    Mounjaro after the modification

    Mounjaro after the modification

We anticipate that the modified KwikPen will become available in the UK from April 2026. Once existing stock of the initial KwikPen is depleted, supply will transition to the modified KwikPen. Healthcare providers and patients can expect both versions to be available in the market for a period of time for all dose strengths during this transition.

The modified KwikPen works the same way as the initial device, but there are a few visual and structural updates:

    1. Plunger Position: The plunger sits farther down in the cartridge when the pen is unused.

    2. Extended Plunger: A new internal component has been added behind the plunger, extending its length. This is shown in the Mounjaro KwikPen Guide to Parts section of the product’s Instructions For Use (IFU).

    3. Remaining Medicine: After the fourth dose, the plunger will be near the end of the pen, clearly indicating the pen is ready to be discarded.

They published those new Kwikpen designs in August last year. The last pen I bought was in early January, and it still had the old configuration. I guess it takes quite a while for those newly designed Kwikpens to filter through to the pharmacies.

Does anyone remember Xenical? I used get on medical card but believe gone , any alternative?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭LastApacheInjun

Pretty much - rather than overfilling the Kwikpens with 0.6ml of extra medication, they'll only overfill them with 0.1ml/0.2ml.
