It did a bit, I suppose the centre console is half the width roughly the X5 is, but on saying that, it was spacious. Sitting behind myself, there was loads of legroom, and no transmission tunnel means middle seat is more useable. When I say smaller, I’m meaning overall size really.

It’s lower, probably by 100mm or so. Overall, there is plenty of space, Center console has nice space under also. Loved the panoramic instrument screen, overall I probably will go for one. Hesitating about losing the bulk, safety, height and copious space of the X5 but for myself and wifey, more than enough space in the X3. Plus would be easier to park and manoeuvre in multi-storeys. And yeah, it’s really comfy for a steel suspension versus the air suspension on the X5, feels nearly as good, it sure how it would be on 22” though. The acceleration is incredible. Made the X5 feel sluggish.

stay away from 22s if you’re coming from an X5 with air suspension.

Ah but they look good!I like the 1050 21” as a fallback though.

they do but I did over 150kms in one with 22s and it’s firm enough. Good for 22s but still hard.

Is it jarring though or just sporty? Did you drive any of the other wheel options? When will you have the video up?

there was a new ix3 parked beside a new x1 on the forecourt of BMW dealer i passed today so went up to look. First time I saw one since the launch event in November. The ix3 did not look much bigger externally than the x1 and it gives off more tall estate vibes than suv to me.

Why would you go from an x5 to an ix3? The current x5 is a great machine !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,097 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I checked it up online and ix3 is 7mm lower than x1 as well as 50mm wider. It’s 28 cm longer all of which makes it look more like an estate beside the x1 I suppose.

Definitely a better looking car in the metal than in pictures.

It’s not a bad looking car but I don’t think it looks like a €70K car to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,097 ✭✭✭carsfan2

80k in m sport pro version which Nobby said on his video has the most orders here.

    Even worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,191 ✭✭✭joe1303l

It definitely doesn’t look like an €80K car either

Clearly enough people disagree with you if there's a 1 year waiting list for delivery. Ultimately part of the pricing equation is "are people willing to pay X for it" and the answer here is yes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75 ✭✭kevin.m

They are scraping the bottom of the barrel if they are claiming the car does not look its price. Same could be said for a lot of cars, a 60+k Model Y doesnt look its price, but you dont see people waste their time posting that on Tesla threads.

They are just frustrated that their halo cars have been left behind in tech, range and charging speed.

I'd rather focus on this particular car than getting into the typical EV forum playground battles

loads of videos dropped post embargo, seldom see such unanimity these days.

have to say also, I don’t mind the look at all of the Se model on 20 inch wheels.

jesus you will find a lot worse than people saying a model Y doesnt look its price on a tesla thread 🤣 and Joe doesnt own a tesla as far as i know (nor is he a fan!), so not sure why you are bringing teslas into it at all?

I think most people prefer traditional SUV shapes, as many have said the IX3 is more estate looking than SUV, i quite like it in top trim spec but thats a mid 80s car (at the moment), lower spec versions not so much.

Idk I personally like the fact that the iX3 is somewhere between an estate and an SUV. I'm fed up with bulkier and bulkier cars, and I like the idea of having what is essentially a taller 3-series.

Pre-orders would suggest plenty of others like these things too!

this. I’m not an suv fan, but did love the a6 allroad, the newer EV ‘SUVs’ are starting to look lower and longer and personally I really like the look of this and the new glc. A much more functional look. Also as noted they are smaller and more compact externally but with same interior space as much larger cars. Easier to use in the city etc without any really space downsides.

I was waiting for a test drive of this and a look at the new i3, possibly looking at the touring of it, but early videos show the lower i3 has the knees up toward chin effect in the back which is far from ideal. A slightly high body looks like it is required for EVs with so much battery in the floor. This looks like the sweet spot in styling for them. Although I’d still prefer something in between

yes, bmw havent had anything else really that people could go for in that range apart from the IX which is an odd looking car so there is certainly pent up demand for a main stream mid size BMW electric family wagon which this fits. Add in the massive battery which gives impressive range and the fact it isnt 100k its all good!

I like the new iX3, great to see more high tech, efficient, desirable and sporty cars on the road.

However I don't see the need to bring up comments on other peoples choices..

I had the iX myself for a couple of years, and really loved it, but it just always felt a touch too bulky for what I wanted. Shaving a few cms off each dimension makes me really understand why the iX3 is hitting Car of the Year awards all over the place.

I'm still happy with my Countryman U25 for another year or two though (and I'll have to be, it's not like I'll be able to get an iX3 anytime soon)

Joe Achilles, generally not a fan of EV's gives a very positive review.

Each to their own in terms of what people are willing to pay or rent in the case of PCP customers. They had 3 iX3’s in Conlons Naas this afternoon and the height or lack of it will definitely take some getting used to. In lighter colours it looked more substantial but they had a dark blue one that looked miserable small. I’d find a demo i5 Touring a lot more tempting at that price point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,647 ✭✭✭sk8board

people paid a LOT more for i5’s or a 5-series (or equivalent Audi/merc) 2-4 years ago will find these iX3 to be great value, now that range concerns are getting addressed, and you’ll save a lot of money.

    Thats why it’s selling.

Cheap i5’s for the rest of us

Impressive. Not as impressive as them boots you had on you. Braver man than I am. Tongues out, funs out. Fair play.

Autobahn drive review from autogefuhl, not sure I’ve ever seen such consistently good reviews, usually you get at least a couple of the bigger YouTubers give a bad review for the clicks. Interesting in this one that they confirm a €60k starting orice for the smaller battery 2nd version at about 80kwH battery. Which would be ~ 75% battery size, maybe with a 30% weight reduction dropping that much battery and half the motors, do maybe 85% of the range which would still be 680km wltp. Certainly you would expect it to be well over 600km. Will sell a lot of that version.

It’s a hell of a range at 130kmph (average), on the biggest wheels.

Irish buyers on normal wheels will do 600km easily enough, doing 80% motorway driving - far more for city driving obviously

Spotted one of these outside Galway on Sunday. Nice looking but my wife hated the "nostrils" on the front. The grill is a bit odd looking .
