I’d say it will look good.
    Price……€70k plus?

Or will we see some affordable options

Will it really be much of a design departure from the recently introduced new X3?

    Spy shot here:

    image.png

Looks like it will have the full Neue Klasse inspired front end that the X3 will probably get as an LCI model in a year or two. Dash will probably be updated to the latest generation of touchscreens and idrive alright but again these will filter to the non electric versions in a year or two also. Similar to what they did with the i4 over the 4 Series when it launched would be my guess.

it’s going to be very like the concept Gumbo posted I think.
very different interior with no instrument binnacle but all info projected on a panel the full width below the windscreen.

All the driver reviews have been positive and BMW are saying the interior quality has improved on the new X3 which has been widely criticised.

Range of 800km they are claiming too.

I’d be surprised to see it the 50 x drive which is the launch model come in below 85k here though.

Edit. Just saw the first leaked images on instagram. Looks good. Very like concept.

Price per cm^2 of BMW kidneys seems very high on this model, hence I declare it bad value.

I have to say in the last month or so there have been a few imminent launches which are a step change forward in setup, spec and range, which will see more and more people in EVs or long range hybrids.

not sure it will do much for current EVs holding their values too well though!

    Supposedly from Indo:

The version to be launched in Ireland in March, the iX3 50 xDrive, is an all-wheel drive vehicle that accelerates from zero to 100kph in 4.9 seconds with 469 horsepower under the hood and peak torque of 645Nm.

BMW says that it will cost from €73,925 on the road, has a top speed of 209kph and has a WLTP range of between 677km and 805km on a single charge.

That is significantly cheaper than current models like the i5, and about the same as an i4 which have 300km less range

If correct you would think they would struggle to meet demand for a year or two

price is a lot better than I expected for sure.

They are marketing the hell out of this Neue Klass thing, good choice of name in fairness.

What is the leap forward in technology behind getting 800km WLTP on a big SUV?

Its has 108kwh battery and they are quoting 400kw charging speeds which I dont think any chargers can do. I do appreciate the future proofing though.

I presume the 108kwh car is a fair whack dearer than 73 grand quoted. They are advertising minimum price in same sentences as specs from the most expensive ones.

I can see a well specced one being 120 grand or so. Put a 108kwh battery in any of today's EVs and they are up to 800km range no problem too. They'll be dearer than now but not what BMW will charge. My 52kwh small car has wltp of 410 and this is claiming more or less same efficiency, I can't believe that until I see it.

677 wltp is not a huge leap forward that its a revolution or anything and will be 90 grand in a decent spec.

I think its a step back to be honest putting bigger and bigger batteries in cars and claiming its a step forward.

A rough and ready vid unfortunately!

it seem like that is the only model at launch so that would be the price for it? Lowest spec starting 60k in Germany, 70k for the power and range above, so prices seem about right. Or at least not 45k out?

edit, I see from Marks video above that is the price is confirmed for the ix50 which is indeed a great price

This car looks incredible and will sell like hot cakes at that price. It will decimate the current pricing structure of other large electric cars like the VW ID7 and indeed BMW's other electric cars.

The configurator for the BMW iX3 is already online and in fairness to BMW, the price is holding between 73 to 80 thousand for a very well specc'd model which is completely not what I was expecting.

This really does seem to be revolutionary and I'd nearly order one already.

yeah, at this range and price it’s a game changer and the new i3 next year based on the platform should be close to 900km range.

Edit - I guess with configurator, you could add every option on top of msport pro and get it to about 85k+. Sweet spot would be about 80k

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,100 ✭✭✭carsfan2

no,you get the big battery for 73k

You can configure it now and for a BMW it’s not bad value.

I thought this would be x5 / ix kind of money

Pleasantly surprised and happy to be wrong.

1st look at the new BMW iX3 today in Munich.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 545 ✭✭✭lukas8888

It's on the BMW configurator as of today.I speced one with my must have options ended up at almost 95K.

Questionable exterior and interior, gimmicky screens, over designed steering wheel, BMW aficionados patiently await a return to form, but we all know that ship has long since sailed.

They brought the frunk back — that's enough for me to celebrate!

must go back and look at how this is possible, is this starting from highest spec, adding every possible option, largest wheels, individual leather and paint?

Edit - added every possible option and could only get to 89k, can’t find anything else to add, never mind must haves!

not that it matter really, at about 75k it’s a very well spec’d model with massive range, which undercuts recent models, cars like the Q6 etron and A6 etron by 25k or so at equivalent spec but with more range. Its good for all potential buyers of all models that the constant increase in prices seems to have had a hard brake put on it.

    I agree with this.

For a BMW electric car, its incredibly well specc'd in the 73-80 thousand range.

It is hard to emphasise how much of a wrecking ball this takes to the 'premium' electric car pricing structure.

For example, all of Audi's comparable electric vehicles (Q6, A6) are now overpriced by 15-25 thousand. Ditto for BMW's own IX. I could go on. These competitors are now redundant at their current prices and quite simply will not be purchased unless their prices are dropped dramatically. Which is great news for us as consumers as BMW and Audi's previous electric offerings were just at crazy prices for any kind of trim. And even at that they still had to gall to charge about 1000euro for a different paint colour.

Even a VW ID PRO S spec'd up to similar level with heat pump comes to 73thousand. Again, this now, quite simply, will not sell at that price.

This kind of feels like an iphone moment.

it great for EVs in general, although it feels like this was coming. Bmws X5 50e for 100-110k is flying out of garages as it’s great car with good electric range and performance of what the X5M had a few years ago. The idea an electric A6 or Q6 OR an iX or indeed i5 was worth a premium over that just doesn’t fly.

It will ripple down too, the id7 is a lovely car but seems saleproof at its price in Ireland, everyone just gets the id4 or even the very good value id3 gtx as each one is a step up in value. The idea the gtx plus at 74k is anyway buyable compared to this is obviously a bit nuts.

The new i3 next year on this platform could even start in the 40s when the current i4 is in the 70s to start. The economies to go full EV will change for a large number of people (mostly those not trying to trade in a current EV of course!)

It definitely looks like a shift in pricing structure and the realisation of the competition they now face from other legacy European brands, Tesla and the Chinese and Koreans all of whom have massively upped their products.

A very welcome moment. Audi will now try get ahead of them I imagine and slash prices of the A6 and Q6 before this launches which should in turn put downward pressure on i5 and the other manufacturers will also want to keep daylight between their products and the premium ones to keep their market share. Or so the theory goes anyway!

It also might be another market disruptor that the current market doesnt need as regards downward pressure and depreciation but remains to be seen.

However, I still think the 50 to 55k stuff is a much better proposition as we have all learnt we very rarely need 600kms of range in a car. A smaller battery version in the 60s would be a very interesting proposition though with real world 450 or so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 545 ✭✭✭lukas8888

Yes, my mistake double entered some extras, now also done at 89K.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 545 ✭✭✭lukas8888

Disappointed that Air Suspension is not available.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 225 ✭✭Ricey3509

Only disappointment is no knobs for air co, other than that I think it looks terrific - it will be interesting to see how it performs in real world tests. I’m definitely feeling more optimistic for the i3 now which I’d hoped (and now expect) would be my model 3 replacement.

EVs are starting to come of age when you see cars like this hitting mass market

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,925 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

Its debatable whether its mass market or not though, its an 80k+ car all day long

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,508 ✭✭✭rodge123

just took a Quick Look at configuration and base is 74k in Ireland, 68k in UK and 70k in Netherlands.

Have they lumped in a paddy tax or is it the 7% VRT?

  • Subscribers Posts: 17,123 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

even then you need to add largest wheels to get to the at price, which are 3.3k extra and cost you 10% of range also, doesn’t seem like an option most people would consider a must have or even a nice to have with the range penalty.

If you look at the price breakdown Ireland is actually €55,322.10 before you add on taxes and delivery where as in the Netherlands it is € 56.600. The UK is £48,125 which is €55,464 based on 1.1525 rate against sterling so BMW is actually selling it to Ireland cheaper than any of the others. Where Ireland is let down is that dealers give very little off the price but in the UK after a while you can get decent deals on the cars and end up paying a lot more.
