I think the Tesla comes out well from the comparison to be fair, especially regarding interior quality which a lot of people who havent been in a new one appear misinformed about

Tesla has really upped its quality in recent years, so while the Model Y's interior looks much the same as always, the materials and fit/finish are now very impressive. Recent additions such as ambient lighting and more varied trims make it feel plusher, too. The iX3's interior also has ambient lighting and a pleasing array of high-quality materials. It feels just as robust as the Model Y's.

Sorry, someone mentioned handling earlier. Are we seriously rating family SUVs like the iX3 on handling? 😄

Ride and handling. The iX3 on 22's rode better than the Tesla on 20's, that's pretty damning. Whatcar says you can be bounced out of your seat in the Model Y. The poor ride has always been the biggest issue on the Model Y.

I do agree, handling is not important to most EV buyers, as they are coming from older cars, with worn suspension anyway. Ride is important though, especially with kids that are more susceptible to car sickness.

Rode better…..over bumps? That is certainly not handling.

What about EV buyers moving from another EV, or are we allowed to break out of the stereotype? I don't know, we might not be.

Ride over bumps is only part of it, that's primary ride. Google secondary ride and educate yourself a bit on it.

Ride and handling are linked. Drive a car with worn out shocks, the handling will be affected. The quality of the dampers makes a huge difference, I suspect that's an area where Tesla has a lot to learn, or they just decided to save money on.

BMW get it wrong too, the X3M is a case in point, worst M car I've ever driven. The secondary ride is terrible on them, makes them useless as a family car.

I went from an Etron on air suspension to the juniper and i didn't notice a marked degradation in ride quality to be honest, certainly have never been hopped out of my seat in 10,000 km of driving, but the ix3 must ride very well.

It wouldn’t influence me either way. Just pointing out that it’s lazy journalism for a twin test. At a minimum both vehicles should be similarly priced. A cheaper variant of the iX3 when it becomes available might be more comparable to a Model Y.

Fair enough opinion but I suppose not everyone sticks to the same car segment when looking to change so it might be useful for someone currently driving a MY or equivalent to understand how a more expensive/premium? car compares with the their current car.

The reverse could also apply when like and earlier poster above decided its wasn’t worthwhile paying over the odds for a so called premium brand and changed to an MY.

Only have my Model Y Juniper a few days and have only put up a few hundred km on some very poor rural roads and have yet to be bounced out of my seat, I suppose something to look forward to..😁

Considering the BMW is all new design and fair bit more expensive than the model Y that has been around a while, I think the Tesla came out very well. If anything the BMW should have won more convincingly than it did. The current model Y is a great all round package.

Shush now, that's not what vanity buyers want to hear unfortunately.

How does it compare size wise ? Same as a current BMW X3/Audi Q5

saw first look at i3 today also, presume reviews will start dropping. Like a lower, sportier ix3, interior basically the same. Same batteries, up to 900km wltp. About 10% cheaper than ix3 for same spec.

Garage rang today so I'm off to see it tomorrow but turned down a drive as its only available on Saturday.I was going to pull the trigger a few weeks ago but decided to wait until I actually saw one

Haptics on that steering wheel? How are the voice controls? How easy it to turn off ADAS? Took Kia about 6months after the launch of the EV9 to enable the mute key to turn off the bonging. Having to go into the touch screen before was irritating AF.

RE:ADAS I'm guessing it's just a long press on a steering wheel button as it is in my U25 Countryman

Q: have you any thoughts on how Tesla model Y owners will split their time across the comment sections of so many review videos?

thats the best looking one ive seen, presume its the top m sport spec with upgraded wheels, any idea on what that would retail at here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,128 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

that is the m sport pro with pan roof and 22" wheels. the wheels are 4100 euro and take about 60km off the range compared to standard 20" wheels. Mid to high 80's if you include the wheels.

I have the same colour combo on order but on standard 20's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,128 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

should be a looker, look forward to pics.

High 80s was what i was thinking, youd swear these were 60k the way people are going on 😁

Just spend an hour in one and left alone by the sales rep. Its smaller than the X3 and looks as it will be easier to drive and park in towns or the city center. It had a white interior which I hate so that did nothing for me and the steering wheel is a bit odd but I'd imagine you'd get used to it. You can pay extra for the M sport type steering wheel which I'd prefer

The panoramic view is a game changer …absolutely incredible when you're sitting there and all the information is floating in your eye line in the distance ..I'd imagine it will be copied by lots of other car companies

The controls on the screen are very easy to use after a few minutes … everything is on the screen even trying to change the direction of your air vents which is overkill in my opinion

I'll wait to take a drive in one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,631 ✭✭✭MarkN

it’s mm smaller than an X3, nothing in it really.

22s on that car, 16.9kWh/100kms on the XDrive. Firm but not overly so for 22s. Dynamic chassis neither confirmed or denied. Should sell well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75 ✭✭kevin.m

that’s an impressive consumption figure. What sort of driving were you doing to achieve it?

    when is the embargo lifted?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,631 ✭✭✭MarkN

midnight on Monday despite the car having been launched in Malaga months ago ! Bit of motorway, B roads, good mix.

  • Subscribers Posts: 17,114 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

that’s similar to what a few early reviews said, well over 600km real world range even on 22s

Got to test drive one this morning. Very impressed by it, much better than the old X3. Integrated display on windscreen works well. Lovely to drive, nice bit of poke when needed. Car I was had no options on it so fairly basic interior.

I had a test drive today in Dublin. Really liked it, coming from an X50e, a lot smaller of course but really comfortable and the acceleration feels ballistic in Sport mode. That electric torque really is a thing.

The car I drove showed 697km at 97% charge at 11 degrees C, but would have been driven pretty hard as a demo car.

Showroom car would be 748km if fully charged.

I was told order in July for January 2027 delivery, selling very well, customer deliveries next week.

Did it feel smaller inside Aiden ? Surprised at that EVs tend to be a lot more spacious than their ice counterparts so I'd expect an ix3 to feel similar inside to an x5
