I'm aware of that. I chose the 30 day option as suited me better. Still paying 30pm until the 30 days notice is up on the 30th March.Increase was't kicking in until 4th April so makes no difference. Also,I prefer to know when the switch is happening for definite by giving the 30 days as opposed to the new supplier doing it "in a few days" & prefer having my contract end next year the end of March 2027 so I can negotiate the annual April increases.

Ah yeah I get ye. Hopefully the fixed April price increases will be phased out next year when the new legislation is introduced that will let you leave a contract even if the fixed price increase was mentioned in the contract.

At the very least you'll be able to leave a contract if the price increases, like you can currently with Sky, Virgin, Digiweb, Pure Telecom as they don't have a fixed price increase as part of the contract.

Just left Sky for Vodafone pre April increase

Went from 500mb to 1 Gig and saved money so all good

The fact that Vodafone contact Sky also a bonus ala Electricity changes which I wasn't expecting.

I'm planning the same, but I'm still waiting to hear from Sky about the price increase before I call.

I'm surprised I haven't received any communication from them about it yet.

You should be notified at least 30 days before your April bill date, everyone has a different bill date.

If any work requires a technician, it'll be Eir that will have to come out and look at it even if you are with Sky.

We cut fiber cable by accident during Xmas (we are with Sky) and even though I had to call Sky and log an incident with them, they told me they would log it with Eir but they wouldn't be able to see on their system when someone was going to come out. The Eir guy showed up 7 days later on Sat morning without any warning and fixed it in an hour but it was a guessing game as Sky had no information on timelines, etc. Eir guy also told me that when they get incident logged they see no details of what is wrong. He said if they could have seen details that cable was cut, he would have come out the next day to fix it as it's classed small straight forward job.

currently with EIR myself on 1GB fibre, no idea beyond that(ont etc)! contract up end of March. thinking of moving to Sky or Pure, can I just move supplier and expect the new supplier to make the service switch or do i need to contact Eir myself? I had thought that this was just an issue if u were still in contract but reading here it seems not?!

Is that Eir or OpenEir? They are two very different beasties

If you stay on the same access network (open eir, SIRO, NBI) and provide the new provider your UAN, then the old provider should automatically cancel when the new provider takes over the line.

If there's more than one access network available to be installed at your address then there could be a switch, you'd have to check with the new provider which they are going to use. You should still be able to get the new provider to cancel your old provider for you, under the new IAS process. You can check which access networks are available at the address here -

It wouldn't matter if it was eir or Sky, they'd both have to go through open eir to get an issue fixed if the problem was on their side of the network.

I know that, that was what I was hoping to get the poster to clarify as they were stating that Eir would come out to fix a network issue for Sky when, i'm thinking, it is actually Open Eir.

I'm just musing on the Sky contract change.
Surely, that would allow Sky the opportunity to make the customers that choose to give notice, a retention offer of the 1gb for €35 deal?

I received my contract change notification yesterday and TBH, €33.50 is still okay but I'll likely give notice and switch to Pure via OBS or even Eir as that €3.50 is best viewed IMHO as an 11.7% price rise, rather the "just €3.50".

I don't need 1gb, let's be honest very few do but I'd rather pay €35 and be assuaged by the illusion of getting more.
Than I would be by paying €33.50 to stand still.

Yeah you'd think they would do that but they probably wouldn't offer 1Gb at €35pm to existing customers re-contracting normally anyway

If they don't, I suppose the Mrs will be signing up then 😉

Just got meself re-contracted with Sky, €35 for 1Gbps yesterday. Had to tell the agent a few times that I don't like loyal customers being punished. A threat to switch to Digiweb finally got them to offer me the deal.

My contract with Eir is up on April 8th. I was asking about what their best price is etc. Think they offered €45 per month or something. I said I'd like to cancel.

Apparently I have to call exactly 30 days before the contract ends to get the product cancelled at the end of the contract, I can't give any more notice, they can only cancel 30 days from the call. This seems utterly ridicolous. They will also charge early cancellation fee for cancelling early.

Surely I should be able to give them at least 30 days notice not have o give exactly 30 days notice?

Anyway I'm thinking Virgin Media is the best offer I can see at €35 per month for 24 months.

Just rang and spoke with Sky and they confirmed my price will stay at €30 until my 12months are up in Sept.
Agent confirmed that as the offer I signed up for was "€30pm for 12 months" that Sky are dealing with customers by increasing the discount on the "actual" price to keep the the €30 charge in place.
E.G "full price" increased from €64 to €67.50 but the discount in place has been automatically adjusted from €34 to €37.50.

I can't speak to whether that's correct for all customers on a €30 deal from Sky but it's what's in place for my "€30pm for 12 months" deal.
Must say, pleasantly surprised to see it handled so well and happy to stay put until Sept.

Sky did not want to offer me the same current rate of €35/month although my contract expires in September too. So i asked them i want to discontinue their services. Price gone up by €3.5/month.

I'd just double check your April predicted bill on MySky to ensure that's right

Nice one. It is strange they've said that to you as most people seem to be getting it increased.

Dont confuse "cancelling" with "switching". As has been posted above, if you are going to another provider on the same network type (OpenEir, NBI, SIRO etc), then you are switching.

You do not need to cancel. The networks are designed so that the new provider takes over the line and the old provider is notified automatically. If you switch before your current contracts end you may be charged an early termination fee.

Cancelling is when you want your service to be effectively cutoff.

Pure are also offering Broadband and a land line for €30 per month through Family Carers Ireland.

Got the email about the €3.50 increase to Broadband with Sky. Contract was due to expire in April so would of been going from €30 to over €60 a month so rang up to cancel and they offered me €33.50 for the next 12 months for 500mb deal so was happy enough to take that and not have any hassle doing the usual switchover. Will do the usual dance again next year when the april increase comes in again

I just switched to Virgin via Switcher.ie and got €35 for 24mths + €65 credit. BTW SKY cut me off at 22:30 on Friday night🙄

My €35 per month with Pure for 500BB and land line ends in March.

They just offered me 6 months at €40, followed by 12 months at €55 to renew, so 18 months at average of €50.

    Leaving them…

Are you siro with them by any chance? Im coming near the end of year 3 with them in May, each May I call them up and the honour the €35p/m deal for me, I have NBI, I know others who are with Pure that have Siro and they haven't been as lucky when they've rung up looking for a deal.

Yep - Pure dont seem interest (mostly) in retaining customers. This was the standard pricing you will face if your contract ends and they dont offer you a new deal.
