It seems like a big waste, I change every year going from eir to Vodafone to sky and back to eir, but I'm sure there is a big % that never change. My mother in law is with Eir because she likes them ( she used to work for them so there is a reason). But still internet, TV and mobiles is something like €120 a month as she just never looked for a better deal.

Sadly they're the people Eir are depending on.

My mother was talking to a friend of hers (and her sister separately) who both still pay Eir for broadband & phone, they pay electric ireland for electricity because they've always been with them, and why would they change?

I shudder to think about how much extra they have unnecessarily paid out.

Sadly this is all too common. The regulator needs to do more to promote switching utility companies.

Just a reminder for anyone currently considering switching or re-contracting with Eir, if you hold off until Mar 1st, you will not be subject to the April price increase this year.

Im out of contract with Pure as of today and looking to sign up to a Eir on a 24month plan.

My Pure plan expires today and will be €50/m out of contract. But I (hopefully) will only charged pro-rata for about 4 or 5 days use when I get switched over to Eir.

Signing up for a 24 month plan means I get 13 months at current rate, followed by a price rise in April 2027 (totol increase €4 x 11 months = €44).

just wondering if you tried negotiating with Pure ? Mines up next month with them , be happy to stay if the keep me at current (€35)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,236 ✭✭✭wassie

Yep - said they could only offer me 500Mbs @€40/m or 1Gbs @55/m - Currently on €35/m for 500Mbs on NBI.

Appreciate they dont have the wholesale purchasing power with the likes of the big Telcos, but essentially they are losing a customer for the sake of €60. My understanding is that it is always cheaper to retain a customer than to try and gain a new one.

But then again its simply a numbers game and perhaps there are plenty of folks that simply cant be bothered switching and are happy to pay over the odds which may negate the churn.

€35/month 500mb broadband contract just up with Virgin so I rang them today. I was initially offered €55/month for same but declined. Told him I might be interested in adding the TV package so he got back to me with €48.50/month for both for 9 months and €97 for the last 3 months. He did however say i would get an email after the 9 months to renegotiate the contract. So I'll take me chance and see how it plays out.

Why sign up for a 24 month contract with a guaranteed price increase when you could just a 12 month and then switch again?

Or is this a hedge in case they go up in 12 months time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭NotShero

    The 1Gb is €50pm on a 12 month contract, whereas it's €40pm on a 24 month. The 500Mb is €35pm on a 12 month contract, €4 price increase in April.

Just to watch out, it says on Switcher there's only 1 day left of the €100 credit added to your bill promotion. I presume it might be extended though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,236 ✭✭✭wassie

Unfortunately Eir only offer 24 months plans on NBI network.

    image.png

But the upside is that Eir is by far the cheapest option for 2Gbs+ plans on NBI, even with a single price increase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,236 ✭✭✭wassie

Yeah I only noticed that today in the fine print:

€100 off your bill (Credit on your eir account) is available to new eir residential broadband customers who sign up between 31/01/26 – 26/02/26 via eir.ie. Eligibility is subject to all elements of the broadband bundle being active for at least 14 days and the broadband installation fully completed by 31st of May.

Eir finish the promotion a full working day (Fri 27/2) before the start of March, maybe to allow new sign ups to transfer and capture them in a price rise this year.

Ive been thinking about this and unsure what to do atm. Either I

Sign up tomorrow and suffer the price increases in 2026 & 2027 meaning I pay an additional €4 x 23m = €92. BUT this is offset by the €100 credit, meaning I would be €8 in front.

    Or

Hold out to March 1st and hope there is a new offer. If not, I will pay an additional €4 x 11m = €44. If there is a new offer, a €50 credit would mean I am €6 better off. A €100 credit would mean €56 better off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭NotShero

Yeah you might be better off waiting and joining in March anyway then so, there might still be the same or some promotion available as you said

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,236 ✭✭✭wassie

My fifth class maths is wrong.

Total Cost (24 months) signup before 27th Feb

    Base: €49.99 x 24 = €1,199.76
    Hike (April '26 - March '27): €4 x 12 = €48.00
    Hike (April '27 - Feb '28): €8 x 11 = €88.00
    Cashback: -€100.00
    Estimated Total: €1,235.76

Total Cost (24 months - Assuming NO Cashback) signup on/after 1st Mar

    Base: €49.99 x 24 = €1,199.76
    Hike (April '26 - March '27): €0 (Exempt!)
    Hike (April '27 - Feb '28): €4 x 11 = €44.00
    Estimated Total: €1,243.76

If a cashback is offered, then I'll be in front.
Otherwise I'll be marginally worse off, but if I need to cancel early it will cost me less.

The one big switch Pure telecom 500meg for €30 is back, it expires the 27th of March.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭Sponsorgate

Note : Not available to National Broadband Ireland customers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,630 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

I knew someone would be along to point that out😏😏.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭Sponsorgate

Called them there as matter of interest. I am an NBI customer & they offered me 30pm (500mb) & 35pm (1gb). New customer. Didnt clarify whether that was subject to an increase but don't think Pure do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,891 ✭✭✭savemejebus

Have been with pure the last two years. My contract (€35 a month for 500meg) would be coming due in March so rang them to see what was available - mentioned that the person I dealt with last year said to make sure to call rather than just switching away - and straight away they offered the same deal for another year. Happy days.

HBO Max looks to be coming in July, Disney+ end of March I think. But great to get all these bundled with Sky!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,236 ✭✭✭wassie

Sky get you in the door with a basic package, then hit you with the extras.

eg Sports, Sports Extra, 4K/Atmos, no ads, multi-room, Netflix 4K/premium…. Of course it all depends on your own wants.

I got this email too. I signed up in December 2025, 2 years 500Mbs "ultrafast" ftth for 35eur/month (special offer, new customer).

Is the 35eur/month not locked in for 2 years?

Later In the email it says: "Any offer you availed of when you joined Sky will not be impacted."

    Thanks for any insights!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,478 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

I got the email from sky, problem is even with the 3.50 hike they are still well under the others for TV and broadband and Netflix.

At least until the end of my 12 months. I'll try get a cancellation deal off them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭NotShero

No they can still increase prices during the contract term but because they didn't specifically say there was going to be a price increase, you are given a period of time to leave the contract penalty free.

They are only increasing the 500Mb/s, the 1Gb is not increasing and that is €35pm for new customers.

Looks to be now extended until the end of March! -

"€100 off your bill (Credit on your eir account) is available to new eir residential broadband customers who sign up between 26/02/26 – 31/03/26 via Switcher.ie."

My Sky deal is ending on 10/03 and I am also looking at Eir offer. How is their customer service these days? Any idea?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭NotShero

I've found it good myself not too long ago, especially their complaints team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭Sponsorgate

Eir deal is tempting but staying way. Dont want to be tied to them for 24 months & their support is so poor if do have issues.Friend of mine internet went down during the week. He's with Eir. 2 weeks minimum before a technician will be onsite to troubleshoot. Not good enough.

Gave my 30 days notice with Sky today. 30pm 500mb package. Originally contract up in May but was able to terminate as they were going to up it by 3:50 in April.

Currently plan is to go with Pure when contract ends in 30 days with Sky. Either 500mb(30pm) or 1gb(35pm).

You can switch right away if you're going to be using the same access network (open eir, NBI, SIRO), just give the UAN. You shouldn't have to wait the 30 days as you're switching not necessarily cancelling.

I personally found eir's support to be better than Sky in recent times.
