Edogbo was out of feet after 5 mins and he only played 10mins. He would not be help this week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,902 ✭✭✭Downlinz

He made 9 tackles which is a crazy amount of work to get through in 10 minutes, no wonder he was gassed.

Edogbo always looks gassed! It just the way he carries himself

Then have Izzy in the bench. 5/3 could pay off IF theres an injury in the backs, but if theres not, then the lack of an extra forward on the bench is more likely to be a difference maker than springing a 23 who only covers wing.

What is the point of picking TOT at Loosehead?

Presumably they think he's better than Milne

What was the point of Milne moving to Munster?

So Michael Milne could prolong his career. He would be fourth choice at Leinster right now. I doubt anyone in the Irish management cared that he moved.

What ws the point of Mine playing v France?

Maybe they wanted to see what he could do. What's the point of picking any new players?

Are they now moving Porter back again to Loosehead?

Porter has been a loosehead for what, four years now?

Applying the circular logic of this forum - he must not be doing it in training, possibly late to meetings? etc etc. And lets face it, he probably wouldn't be at Leinster if it wasn't for his brother leaving.

Beirne always looks gassed…. and consistently does more minutes than any of our locks.

How a player "looks" is not really a valid way to judge them.

I genuinely think some of the negative stuff posted on here is worse than on X.

It's genuinely depressing. Like, you've lads here calling for Farrell to be sacked because of two or three of his bench selections in the middle of a bona-fide injury crisis.

It is unfortunate, because like other forms of social media, the angry negative posts are the ones that excite the most debate.

Izuchukwu didn't do enough last week.

I take it you missed the game last week. I think it might be on one of the catch up services. Have a watch.

    Complains about negativity.

Throws out the following about Milne…

I doubt anyone in the Irish management cared that he moved.

In what way is that not a pretty negative take?

This is the problem with Farrell. He’ll give some guys a go against an Italy, Fiji, Japan or whoever. And unless they put in a 10/10 MOTM performance, they get thrown on the scrap heap, even if they actually played quite well.

Other guys, he’ll persist with literally for years, give them chance after chance to stake their claim before they start to look international quality.

Clearly I meant TH. What is point of even responding anyway?

Lol you're a gas man. As soon as there is ever a sniff of negativity about a Munster player you arrive here quicker than McCaw got to a ruck.

If you cannot see the difference between what Former said regarding the negativity on here to the comment he made about Milne then there is no helping you. Not once did he say nobody is allowed to be criticised etc. But calling for a managers head is a little bit different I'm sure anyone would reasonably agree.

His carrying isn't as effective but I'd argue that winning 5 turnovers, with three of those at the breakdown, against the best team in the tournament is certainly matching his best form at the ruck. Winning 5 turnovers against any side is incredible. Beirne's problem is it's become so commonplace that people take it for granted. He also topped our tackle count. Conan is a better carrier but he's a No. 8 and Baird is a great loose carrier but nowhere near as effective defensively.

I do think Beirne is rated more abroad than at home. He's been named in the World Rugby team of the year these past two seasons and was also the Lion's player of the tour (albeit against a weak enough Aussie side). He didn't have a great Autumn series but aside from that it's been pretty much business as usual.

Bloody hell, the guy has literally just come back from the guts of 2 seasons out. Give him a chance before he is categorised as not at this level.

We very very rarely have an athlete like him available to us.

    I absolutely agree.

Here's another difference tho - once the International window is closed, those posters will disappear again.

But FFF will still be here complaining about negativity and criticism, while also being happy to throw out stuff like - a recent, non-Munster, example - when someone suggested Baloucoune should feature, he was shot down as having a "career of mediocrity".

The point being? It's hypocritical to complain about negativity and criticism while also being OTT with your own negativity and criticism.

"I doubt anyone in the Irish management cared that [Milne] moved" being the latest instalment.

He's very good at winning turnovers, but what value did we get from those in the France game? I don't say that disparagingly, but it's one factor to consider in comparing to peers. Does that carry more value than say Baird or Izuchukwu's superior carrying and lineout ability? I remember Beirne making 1 turnover vs Sat, maybe more, did he contribute more than Izuchukwu, who made some massive carries and pressured the Italian lineout?

I’d have kept Izzy and Edogbo in place, not that I think either went great last week but just because I think both are worth a proper look. Edogbo only got 10 minutes from what I can remember last week.
Loughman lucky to keep his spot I think.

I’d be the first to admit I’m biased towards Milne. He was born and raised only a stones throw from me and no matter what team he ever plays for I want to see him do well.

But there’s nothing wrong with what Former said either. Being realistic he’s our 6th choice LH. Porter, P Mc and Boyle are obviously ahead of him, and by the looks of it now so too are Loughman and the TH Tom O’Toole, so he’s sixth in the pecking order.

If you were to ask the Irish management to name the 6th choice in any position I doubt they’d be able to give you an answer as the chances of them ever having to go that deep is very very slim. So while Former’s wording when saying no one cared might have sounded a bit harsh, I doubt anyone in the Irish management would have expected to be seeing Milne on an Irish team sheet any time soon so wouldn’t have been over concerned about the move more-so than just not cared but the end result is the same regardless of the wording.

On a personal note I’m very disappointed not to see him at least on the bench this week, I don’t see how he could have done any more when asked of him against France and I hope to see him get rewarded for that in our last 2 matches.

Who are you putting there ahead of him. I can't think of anybody. I'm not singing TOB's praises at all just saying we have nobody else right now.

The only one I can think of who would be challenger is Shayne Bolton but he's injured.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 43,030 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Imo McCarthy should not be starting and Frawley should not be there at all. I've no issues with anything else although I think Milne is unfortunate not to be there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,106 ✭✭✭shootermacg

It should be apparent that Joe McPenalties should be dropped and replaced by Izzi. "Big Joe" hasn't really put in a good performance in quite a while, and has some absolutely dumb moments. Meanwhile Beirne is the player of tournament for the Lions.

Ryan is much more of a TH lock than Joe, and Izzy made a huge difference in the lineout.

It's not Izzy's problem that Andy wanted him wide in attack, he's much better in the tight exchanges.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,140 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Going to Twickenham with the morale in the dumps I think we need guys like Beirne. If we wanna give it to England like the Scots did or like Italy did to us we need players that give you those big fist pump moments.

Need Lowe at his arrogant best in that regard too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,035 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

Look, I see a lot of what you're saying here DBK1, but FFF has a history - which I won't be quoting, but examples abound - of hammering anyone who is critical of Farrell, but equally being able to dish out some hefty criticism of their own.

Today's "I doubt anyone in the Irish management cared that [Milne] moved" may not be the worst example, but it's getting towards disparaging of a player who we had to call on not 2 weeks ago… and indeed played well and scored a try.

The guy's only just turned 27, LH isn't a position of great strength for us, and he'll absolutely think with regular gametime, he can move up the pecking order and try get himself into a RWC squad.

Like we're often told that Farrell has promoted guys from way down provincial pecking orders, but now we're told to doubt if any of the management cared he moved?

I just think it's another example of some fairly obvious hypocrisy tbh.

thanks for the Grand Slam, the six Nations Championship, the once in a lifetime series win in NZ,the series draw in SA,but apart from that what has Andy Farrell ever done for Irish Rugby.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,106 ✭✭✭shootermacg

Milne is easily our best carrying loosehead. I've seen some great performances from him at scrum time too, so it appears that these guys are judging a much younger Michael Milne who wasn't changed a day since he was at Leinster..

Don't forget all his success as a part of Schmidt's coaching team, so at least partial credit for another Slam.

But apart from all that he's done **** all.
