The Rams were dreadful in the first half last night, Stafford threw a couple of awful picks.

It looked like they were going to pull it out of the fire in the second half but Stafford threw another pick. They managed to tie it up after that but the Falcons got a late field goal to win it.

The officiating in the NFL is infuriatingly bad. Panthers getting rode the last 15 minutes here.

The officiating may have cost them the game. You can never be certain about that but statistically it did.

I like the Bucs a lot but I really hope the Falcons win tomorrow.

On balance think I'd prefer to see the Bucs playing again. Logically neither they nor the Panthers should beat the #5, but Baker and the offence at least bring a little excitement. And it's 95% likely to be in the graveyard slot on Saturday when we can watch it without an alarm clock hovering.

    ********

What the hell are the Niners wearing? Hurting my eyes. Presume it's some throwback (probably giving away that I haven't been watching non-stop since the 80s).

Seattle are looking like serious contenders with that defense. Looking very like the NFC route to the Superbowl is through Lumen Field.

49ers looked great the last few weeks. They scored three points on their home field tonight. 13-3 final score and the Seahawks left points out there.

I'm not betting any money on any of the prospective play-off teams to the win the Super Bowl nobody is outstanding without some flaws but the Seahawks with securing home advantage with a strongly balanced team on all sides of the ball are looking to be the most serious contender though there will be question marks if Darnold can deliver for three business time games

Considering the 49ers have been repeatedly hobbling all season with injuries including blue chip starters this season has been a incredible achievement again from Shanahan but I can't see them appearing again at home turd at Levi's stadium on Feb 8th

Worst half of football from the bears since week 2. Which was also against the lions. We are normally better in the second half, but there would be to be some serious adjustments from both sides of the ball to make a game of this. Very lucky to be only two scores down.

I know there's not a LOT to be played for but it's not nothing either. The 2 seed is still worth getting here, otherwise we wouldn't have our starters out in the first place.

so bears and eagles lose and so the eagles host the niners next week. Great.

Holy ****! How did loop miss that one......Rodgers going to the playoffs....Boswell must be somewhat relieved!

I picked the Bears to be serious contenders for their division this season.

The thing with the Eagles is I think a hangover after last year. They still made the playoffs and the hangover should disappear now. I think they are very serious contenders now.

Their only hope now with the playoffs is to recognise that playing to not lose has not worked well for them and will see them decimated from this point forward. They take a strong lead then sit back and focus more on short safe plays to not turn the ball over rather than actually trying to get first downs, which typically leads to a punt and which the defence has usually been decent enough to stop and get the ball back. However with most of the teams they'll be facing in the playoffs, they will be heavily punished for that.

Even if Eagles beat the Niners, the Divisional round will likely see Eagles V Bears and I don't see the Eagles beating the Bears with the way they've been playing all season (and Bears have already beaten Eagles this season), but if they decide to keep going for it for the whole game they could have a decent shot at it.

    Raheem Morris out at Atlanta

    Kevin Stefanski out at Cleveland

Pete Carroll out at Las Vegas.

Yeah not ideal, would have much rathered a home game against the Packers. 11-6 record with a 3-3 record in a pretty poor division. If the offense can get some kind of rhythm going in the playoffs, we'll have a chance. The defense is elite yet again, despite all the changes from last year.

The one that surprises me is Pete Carroll. He's a guy that turns a franchise around. I'm not just talking about on the field but off it as well. That's not a one year thing.

His first two seasons in Seattle were losing ones.

But that's the Raiders for you. They mess things up every year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 894 ✭✭✭Prefab Sprouter

4 or 5 years ago, I would have agreed with you but under Carroll, the Raiders have been awful on both sides of the ball. No real strengthening of the O-Line or Defense in Free Agency, drafted players and Carroll ignored them for at least half the season. Terrible O-line play and squad depth. BTW, I do agree that we mess things up every year but a lot of this is on Carroll. His legacy as a brilliant coach is secure and justifiably so. But last season was not his finest hour.

You got the first round pick. I'd say that was on his mind from halfway through the season when he seen the state of the roster.

I don't think you need much improvement on the defense. They spent a lot of time on the field and defense tires when they aren't getting a good break to rest.

Your offensive line is horrendous, you need a QB. That's what needs to be fixed. When you sort out the offense then you can go work on the defense if necessary.

As I said Carroll started out with two losing seasons, got his QB and look what happened then. Nine consecutive winning seasons with a Superbowl win and loss. He had eleven winning years over 14 seasons in Seattle.

Carroll should have been given another year knowing he was getting his QB and had a draft and FA to sort out the offensive line.

Jesus, kind of amazing. He got them within a couple of yards worth of a wide field goal of a playoff despite missing their MVP quarterback for a good chunk of the season, rallied them after an awful start, and has an incredible track record with the team. Have a feeling they'll end up regretting that decision. And in a year where there aren't too many stand out head coaching candidates, I have a feeling he'll be snapped up very fast. Would be amazing if the browns hired him

All the talk before Sunday was that whichever coach lost the game was gone so no surprise.

That news was so remarkable it was announced on Newstalk sports bulletin. Not sure when that would have happened before!

If the Steelers take a hammering against the Texans I still think there is a chance they move on from Tomlin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,696 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

It'll be Tomlin who makes that decision. I think if there's enough kickback he might walk and I wouldn't blame him. He's never had a losing season.

The big problem for the Steelers has been at QB. They are never high enough in the draft to get one there and it's very hard to get one in FA.

Like Rodgers looked completely finished with the Jets but he goes to Pittsburgh and looks pretty good. He was brilliant the other night.

As much as I respect Tomlin I thought it was a stupid move bringing in Rodgers but I was wrong.

Buffalo v Jacksonville playoff game will be on VM2 Sunday at 6pm. Seems like VM will cover same game as Channel 5.

I think they'll out-slug the Texans and squeak through

    Stafford definitely has something broken.
