900,000 EU for a semi-detached house on a mass housing estate - have we lost our marbles?

At the top of this Skylark pyramid lies TPG real estate, an American company who have as their chairman of the board Israeli Avi Banyasz - a prominent Zionist and partaker in the so called "birthright" movement.

So, on the world stage we have prided ourselves on being anti-Zionist and staying firmly on the "right side" of history - whilst allowing them and their cronies to purchase vast swathes of land literally in our own backyards. They then sell it back to us as semi-detached houses on mass housing estates for grotesque prices, under the banner of "luxury living". They are a massive part of the housing problem in this country yet we still rush to give them our cash and make things worse for ourselves.

It is shocking to say that Skylark an utter boring cookie cutter estate in Portmarnock selling houses for 900k. There is nothing special about them. Definitely lost all marbles.

Remember the shills only get paid when you react to them.

Yeah it's crazy. I know it's Dublin but it's bonkers. I use Portmarnock for station to work in the city. It takes me an hour given where my office is from a train station. I could move to Meath, Kildare, Wicklow, still commute an hour or so to work and 900K gets me some house, not in a housing estate, a bit of character and likely some acres.

Who'd have expected Israel to get a mention in this thread!? A national obsession

Why? Is it not correct that Israeli Avi Banyasz is chair of TPG real estate, who through their Irish arm Evara have built this overpriced nonsense?

The CEO of TPG Real Estate is Jon Winkelried, another Israeli. You couldn't write it, shall I keep going? Try Adam Schwartz, a TPG Managing Partner. You guessed it - Israeli.

Do you not like the fact it has been pointed out that our property market has been hijacked by Israelis and we're not only asleep, but indeed are falling over ourselves to hand them our cash? Or is your problem just that it has been spotted?

900k for a nice house in Dublin. Yes, that's pricey but it's not just happening here it's happen all over the world. Some people even theorize that the dollar is collapsing super slowly as the reserve currency and wealth is finding its way into hard assets like property, crypto, gold because a great inflation will follow, Not to mention the obvious supply crisis.

Dissing the houses because of the high price is missing the point. The houses are great, the estate is great. The ridiculously high price is a function of the countrywide market dynamics not Skylark itself. They are great houses in an expensive market.. so they are expensive

As for Israeli connections with the developer or something like that. I simply don't care. Palestine has nothing to do with Portmarnock and I'm tired of hearing the constant bleating over what Paddystinians want us to boycott next, or what park they demand is renamed while they seemingly don't care a jot about Sudan or Ukraine, or Hamas' evilness.

Everywhere you look in business you'll find Jewish people over represented at the top. The reason isn't some inherent evil or greed in them, it's because success and personal finance is a strong part of their culture and we'd do well to learn it from them i.e. understand compound interest from a young age, buy appreciating assets not depreciating ones, always have diverse income sources in case one goes tits up. They are there because they work hard and have a success culture.

Hi there! Wondering did you buy in the end? We’re looking at a place there and have the same concerns re noise!

The school situation is insane in Portmarnock so a word of warning for anyone thinking of buying here that its only going to get worse. They are packing in hundreds of more houses in this development with masses of terraced houses planned and there are nowhere near enough school places for the current population and there will be hundreds of new households on top of this in a few years.

As usual abysmal planning in this country. Considering the extremely high prices being charged for houses in this development, which are nowhere near justified, the least you'd expect is basic services in the locality but alas this is Ireland. Avoid if you are looking for school places in the next 5 years!

Just put down a deposit for a house here. I feel sick with the price. If and when a property crash comes we're fucked.

Want to start a family soon, so gotta have a place to live though.

Are there any plans for school extensions or solutions for the school place shortage does anyone know? I hear that school places are being prioritised by a child ages. It looks like 5.5 to 6 years of age needed to get a place. Could push 6+ next year, who knows

Unless you plan to move and once the repayments are affordable the price doesn't matter much. I doubt a crash will happen.

    How much are you paying?

The issues of school places in Portmarnock has been raised many times over the last few years from politicians in SD, SF, Lab etc but as usual the govt do nothing. Only last week the minister said he would "watch the situation" even though its a crisis now and will only get worse with hundreds more new houses being built. I'm only here a year and already looking to get out, creches just as bad as schools, we cannot get any places in the locality.

The opposition might occasionally mention such local stuff in passing but they are generally far too obsessed pontificating and signalling about international matters to create any real momentum or build any amount of pressure on this abject inert government and all the various inept local councils.

The general message to taxpayers in this state, from all levels of government, is to simply suck it up.

We've moved to Portmarnock last year, and got the place at St Marnocks National school with no issue.

However, we were rejected by all schools in Malahide.

Also, the work have started on the new buildings for Portmarnock Community School, so it should be fine.
