    New track just dropped:

That sounds more than fair to me in fairness.

So they're taking the hit? Fair play to them

I like how they say all affected EO charge points need to be online on the date of cessation. Does that mean if you disconnect from the internet on the cessation date you get to keep your smart features?

Excellent customer service from them there in fairness, not that they had too much choice in the matter as they'd have just ended up with a rake of small claim cases otherwise.

I doubt they or any other supplier will be rushing to do much new business with EO after this mess.

Doubtful as I'd guess EO will be just pulling the plug on their servers.

Sounds more like they have/want to wait until EO actually disable the charger before changing it out, maybe some attempt from them to recover some cost from EO going forward, with the large sums of money involved it might be an insurance/legal issue.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

I think we should have a sticky to warn everyone to never buy an EO product again. Link it to this thread. Anyone else agree? Like if you do. Not setting up a poll 🤣

My installation crowd have since gone out of business. I just bought a Tesla wall charger so I'll get someone to swap it out.

They should absolutely be turning to EO to recoup their losses. The silly decision by EO should not go unpunished

    Was this direct from EO?

My installer was Fokearn and I haven't had anything since July despite following up.

My installer was Fokearn and they are replacing the charger as per Bawnmore's post, maybe contact them again.

Does that only apply to units that are still under warranty?

I assume it does , but it doesn't say it directly in the note you shared.

Are you still covered by warranty? If so, contact them again. If not, and it's less than 6 years old it might be worth spending the €25 on a small claim for it.

"We will provide all customers within warranty a solution to this problem"

They seem fairly direct there, so as above it might be worth a SCC case if you're out of warranty but within the 6 year SCC limit.

i would deffo recommend SCC its not a warranty issue its a sale of goods issue, they cant hide behind a warranty.

I am covered by warranty. I'm a bit peeved that they havne't come back to me since July despite chasing. SCC it is so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,329 ✭✭✭Buffman

Definitely if you're out of warranty, but as they've apparently committed to look after everyone within warranty above, I'd save SCC as a last resort if still in warranty.

Could it have gone into Spam? I don't see why they'd look after some within warranty and not others so I'd definitely chase them up again, with a phone call this time. They are probably dealing with 100's if not more cases so there's a chance some could easily fall through the cracks.

If they won't sort you, tell them you know someone who's getting theirs replaced under warranty and ask why aren't they doing yours? Save spending the €25 on SCC until it's the last resort if for some reason they deny you a warranty replacement.

No, not Spam. And the last email was exactly that - a screenshot of their response above (with their own name in there) saying that customer service is their prime concern… Yeah, right.

But you need to have a load of proof that you tried to sort it before SCC will take a look. I've only ever had to use it once, successfully thankfully, because I had all my ducks in a row.

Ye, it definitely sounds like time for a quick call to them, this is possibly one of those situations where something could be sorted with 5 minutes on the phone vs. 20 emails back and forth, and at least you'll know then what your next move will be, if required.

I contacted EO directly and they said

unfortunately EO is not offering any replacements or incentives for both chargers that are in warranty or out of warranty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,623 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

its your supplier you need to take to task on this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 919 ✭✭✭Tazium

I had two avenues to chase down. EO directly and Electric Ireland as the retailer.

Took a bit of patience and one SCC case but I’ve come out of it happy.

Both needed reminding of the Sale of goods and supply of services act and both offered an acceptable solution.

If you’re not satisfied, keep at them.

I got it for free, so I don't think it's a fruitful avenue unfortunately.

Free, as in gifted, or part of a deal? If you handed over money for something else to get a freebie, then it wasn’t free. You would then look at the cost of the unit and installation.

I’ve a spare Tesla charge point there if anyone is in need. €400 to a boardsie. I’m not installing one until next year, so I’ve ample time to pick up another.

Can you say a bit more about the acceptable solution that EO offered you and what you had to do to get them to offer it? I assume the SCC case was against EI?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 919 ✭✭✭Tazium

SCC case against EI. They initially denied everything and I need to supply a written response. In that I included my original invoice and the EO blog of feature cut-off, along with extracts of the sale of goods and supply of services act that defines EI as the retailer and therefore responsible for warranty. That resulted in a settlement.

I started the process with EO first and it was a little tougher to engage them, asked for full head office and company details, explained the loss of features as a bait & switch tactic, not fit for the purpose sold, no longer satisfies the original feature set etc., and outlined how and when I would lodge the case with the UK’s version of SCC. Their first settlement offer was refused, they increased it and I accepted on the balance of time, original cost, and continued use. EO sent my case to their legal reps and it was settled quickly then.

Did you get settled with both ?! I got EI full settlement went the same way as yours did !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 919 ✭✭✭Tazium

Yes, I got a settlement from both.

I'm currently away so can't check myself, but have the units stopped working "smart" yet?

I can still see mine on my home network via my router admin tool etc.

Won't be home for another few days to check directly but just wondering.

    Very interesting..

I'm in similar scenario, bought from EI about 4.5 years ago.

    Must pressure them again.

Can I ask when you had the EO mini charger installed? Mine was installed in April 2022

They offered me a zappi but I would have to cough up the change for it which seems outrageous. I'll now go down the SCC route.

I'm going to hit up EO while I'm at it.
