The Clayface movie is to be directed by James Watkins (Eden Lake, The Woman in Black, Speak No Evil) and written by Mike Flanagan (Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House). Hopefully Flanagan gets to keep the horror elements he wants.

Big Updates on the DC Front. There was a press event on Friday. I've linked two articles.

Basically it seems like that initial Gods and Monsters Slate is pretty much trashed or changed significantly. They've stressed that nothing is moving ahead till they are happy with a script. However they want ideally to have "two live-action films and one animated film per year, and two live-action and two animated TV series per year."

    What's moving ahead

MOVIES - Gunn's Superman obviously. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is halfway through filming. Clayface is moving ahead. Luca Guadagnino's Sgt Rock is looking for a star (not Daniel Craig). An animated Dynamic Duo movie.

TV - Lanterns the TV Series has begun filming. Peacemaker will debut this August. Wonder Woman prequel Paradise Lost is still being worked on.

They've said that they have "greenlit five theatrical films, made three live action series, and are producing five animated series,” he said. Animated series include My Adventures with Green Lantern and Starfire. It also would include a Blue Beetle animated series continuing the events from the film and a show called DC Super Powers (details on these in the Variety article along with title treatments). This, the Green Lantern on and Starfire are said to 'skew younger'.

They also confirmed an 'Avengers style culmination' with a six year plan.

Confirmation too that Ana Noguiera who wrote the Supergirl movie is working on a Teen Titans script. A script 'something-like' Deathstroke/Bane is being worked on too. Again if they're not happy with scripts maybe they won't happen.

What's on hold (or not coming together as they had hoped)

MOVIES - The Authority, had a script that wasn't working and it hasn't been much of a priority, seems to be on the backburner. James Mangold's Swamp Thing, has cooled, Gunn says they talk about it occasionally. Matt Reeves' Batman still doesn't have a script. Brave and the Bold is still developing a script and it seems like there was an implication that Gunn is the driving force behind it and Muschietti is not involved with the development. Robert Pattinson is unlikely to be the DCU's Batman, but they may introduce a DCU Batman before his solo film, no one has been cast.

TV - Waller, they said they've had a couple cracks at it but it 'has been a bumpy road'. Booster Gold, they had a showrunner who was going to make time for it but seems to have lose interest, show is still in development. They have no idea if a second Penguin season will happen.

I'm really happy to see this "not moving ahead till happy with script" approach. Hopefully Gunn can stick to his (ahem) guns on that. Some really interesting projects in the works and would be nice to see some of them come to fruition.

Given how well received the Penguin show was, I'd be surprised if they didn't go back for another season, but personally I'd love for them to take a similar approach with a different character instead. The new show could play in the same world, but focus on a different villain/anti-hero.

A little more info on the Clayface movie here. Talk is cheap, of course, but I hope they can pull it off.

Not sure if it was posted somewhere else but there was a rumour in recent days that Matt Reeves may no longer be directing Batman II. The basis for the rumour was pretty flimsy and has since been rolled back but even if he is still attached there's scepticism that the film will ever happen and that another DC Batman may reach the screen first. Reeves's sequel was meant to start shooting this year which resulted in DP Greig Fraser being replaced on Dune Part 3 but now it looks like it won't start shooting until next year. Reeves has personal issues which he publicly admitted at the Golden Globes. Originally it was rumoured that he was going through a divorce but now it's been suggested he or someone close to him has serious health issues…

Grace Randolph called it a "Chadwicke Boseman" type situation a few months ago which is honestly all kinds of messed up for Grace to say.

To be honest I think Warner/DC are just in complete disarray and are afraid to greenlight anything on the big screen beyond Superman and Supergirl, pending their performance.

Batman, in particular, is the golden goose so I wouldn't be surprised if Warner are holding their powder, until they decide if Gunn or Reeves is the way forward. They can say all they want that Reeves isn't handcuffed by the DCU but he quite clearly is.

Some news came up on Youtube about the fabled Schumacher Cut of Batman Forever.

This cut of Batman Forever which appears to a workprint of a director's cut of the movie by the late Joel Schumacher which was meant to be screened at a video rental store in LA this week has been cancelled.

WBD had recently issued a cease & desist letter to stop Cinefile Video, a local movie theater in LA, to screen the movie to their ticket holders. I don't know if WB have any plans to eventually do the remastering work & VFX on it to release to a wider audience via a cinema & Blu-ray release in the near future?

Batman Forever is 30 years old this year. Do WB have something up their sleeve to announce something for their fans any time soon or not? It would be nice for them to release the director's cut of this movie to honour the legacy of Joel Schumacher & Val Kilmer who were a major part of it thirty years ago.

James Gunn has said that he expects to read the script for The Batman Part II from Matt Reeves soon and he can't wait to see it.

Batman 89 & Batman Returns have been given a new restoration with Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos.

The restoration process with Dolby Vision & Atmos was undertaken & approved by Director Tim Burton.

The movies will then be screened in Dolby Cinemas across the U.S. on the 25th of August.

I'm not really too fussed on remasters but it is nice to see the films in the cinema that you were too young to see. The 30th anniversary for Dracula a couple of years ago was a fantastic experience.

As you may have seen, Warner Bros Discovery is officially up for sale, and I have read the headlines for the last few weeks about the interested parties, between Paramount, Universal, Netflix and the Saudis, but I think this article is worth a look!

    holy sh!t

That site is bullshit, regardless of the sources they claim to have. And I say that with respect because I liked what Snyder did with DC in a lot of ways, in other ways not so much.

Any creator coming under new ownership will always cause uncertainty, and Gunn isn't an exception. I'd say a lot will be riding on Supergirl and Man of Tomorrow, as 2 films is more than apt for a new studio to review and see the next steps forward.

I'd say Gunn will he hoping for Universal or Netflix. Personally I didn't care much for his Superman film, as it felt like a combination of Lois and Clark/The Animated series on the big screen. You want a bit more from live action and I felt Snyder got a lot of those aspects more right than Gunn. Yet Snyder's overall plans were absolutely harebrained. It's a quandary.

If I was a money man, I'd hope Gunn gets it right.

there's a lot of reports that the Saudis are buying WBD and EA sports.

I won't post the links until I see it on the beeb or something similar.

So, which part are you calling Bullshit? The site or the Article?

It's all over the internet that WBD is up for sale, and that Comcast (Universal Studios), Paramount Skydance, Netflix and some Saudi fund (PIF) are interested in buying WBD.

If it's the Snyderverse part of the article is bullshit, lets see in time, but it's funny as Zack Snyder recenty joined Instragram, and he's been posting DC content there, he did something very similar on VERO, before his version of Justice League was announced.

Going by Variety (see below) we should know soon, bids due in by 20th November, and I'm guessing it will leak to the internet very soon after!!!

It's bullsh*t that this group which includes the Saudi PIF buying WBD (which is likely true) means James Gunn is going to be removed and the Snyderverse is coming back (not happening).

Almost every part of the DCEU after Batman V Superman failed, and failed badly. And even Batman V Superman was very divisive and not well received. Actors have aged and moved on. Going back to the Snyderverse now means negating and ignoring what Gunn has released and set up (much of which is in production) which would lead to huge confusion over what's canon or not. And even though the Snyder Cut of Justice League was a lot better than the theatrical cut by Joss Whedon, it still wasn't great (and wouldn't have made it to cinemas at that length and there was a lot of fat which could be cut from it).

The Snyderverse is dead. Zack Snyder posting DC in Instagram is just that; he's posting stuff from his time at DC. He's not trying to subtly hint that he's being given control of the DC films again based on a deal which hasn't even been done yet.

"and it’s no coincidence that Zack Snyder has been posting nonstop DCEU images and liking fan content on Instagram that compares the performance of his films to James Gunn’s struggling DCU projects."

    It is coincidence.

It isn't coincidence, but it's not relevant. Syder is doing what the rock was doing: political positioning in a time of uncertainty. The problem is that any buyer knows that the last time that happened, everyone got damaged and it affected box office and marketing pushes.

Snyder is very interested in his ego getting stroked, private equity and corporates know it's a toxic waste of time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,755 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

By all accounts Snyder seems to be a very decent person, generally loved by the people that work with him. I mean look at the guy who replaced him on Justice League and the multitude of problems he caused with the actors. That is real egomania at play.

Ego of course comes into it as it does with most people in that line of field, as they have to believe in their own creative vision. Otherwise they're screwed.

I think he's just a geek at heart that really believed in the stuff he envisioned, and likes sharing behind the scenes concepts with his fans. It's harmless stuff, not some masterstroke at play.

Surprising news. I'd say Ellen Yindel, though other people a bit more ambitious with Andrea Beaumont.

Netflix have won the race to buy WB so what does that mean for the cinema releases now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,755 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

Upcoming ones (in production) will be honoured I think. After that, who knows. Fascinating times. While I'm not thrilled over this, I'd take Netflix over Paramount.

I just bought a huge truckload of WB/DC 4K's & Blu-rays online over the past few weeks & over the course of today as well.

To say that I'm say f*cking enraged reading this announcement from Netflix today is an understatement. I didn't even want to stomach paying for a Netflix subscription to watch any of the WB movies or shows at all. And I have also never paid any money for a monthly subscription for any other streaming service whatsoever.

I have read all of the stories in the news about the price increases with advertising being applied in your Netflix & other streaming subscriptions over the years. I didn't want to contend with the idea that I could face limitations in how I can watch their content while potentially paying for it on their platforms.

Buying physical media like Blu-rays & 4K's gives me the security that I can watch all of their stuff ad free & uninterrupted from start to finish. If other people wanted me to move away from viewing content on a disc to watching it on an online streaming service; they can go to hell & highwater. It's as simple as that.
