Mine came on 5.2. This was def a quiet / stealth update as I didn’t get the usual notification nor did I need to leave the car idle for it. The only reason I know I’m on 5.4 is because of the change to the login screen - had no other reason to check.

Its not. Its part of the "IQ Drive" optional pack. I think they call it "Lane-Change System Side Assist", not Blind spot.

    The pack adds

    Area View

Lane-Change System Side Assist, with Rear Traffic Alert and Exit Warning Alert

Travel Assist, Lane Assist and Emergency Assist

    Car2X car-to-car wireless information transfer

Park Assist Pro with parking route memory

Its a €1620 extra on the GTX PP, not €3k. Its €3k extra if your model doesnt have the base Assistance package. At least thats what is was before, unless they've changed it.

Don’t think it’s just the white lines, it’s that the grey (area) lines are missing too.

The side parking sensors on the screen are for Park Assist, you will have parking sensors on the wheel arches for it. If there's no grey area it looks like it either doesn't have the sensors or they aren't working?

Excuse the poor picture, phone had a hard time focusing through the rain drops on the window, here's the rear one on my Born.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. The grey border is not there either.

Maybe it is what VW are calling area view, I would have expected that to be 360 camera like others.

I had thought that too but the models without the grey border also seem to have sensors there??

The grey lines are for park assist plus. Its standard in the GTX PP (Assistance Package) but optional in the base GTX. The base GTX just has front and rear parking sensors. Park Assist plus gives you side sensors.

I have a standard GTX PP and I have those grey lines all round as well. Not sure why one of the pics has it and the other hasnt when they are both advertised as a GTX PP. Maybe they used stock pictures or something.

I just noticed on my own this morning that when I initially put it into reverse I only had the front and back grey lines (like the picture) but they all appeared shortly after. Maybe it just needs time to initialise.

So, that explains why one picture has it and the other doesnt.

am I correct that you don’t get the blind spot monitoring as standard in the PP? I.e the orange lights in the door mirrors when changing lanes.

Is there anything else the GTX is missing as standard compared to the Born other than the bucket seats and blind spot monitoring?

Very interesting- just to double check does it say 5.4 software on your system? A friend has an ID3 and he had the car in for a service issue and the garage said they would book him in to update the software to 5.4. I was scratching my head on this - I assume that they were doing it as a little extra as he was waiting a good while to get the car back. Am on 5.2 with the Born and was looking forward to getting 5.4 on OTA and thus stop jabbing the screen every time you start up - I know, sad isn't it! with little improvements.

Thanks for this. I remember when I had the ID3 a few years back the OTA process was a bit of a struggle on a number of occasions until we got to 3.1/3.2. From your experience it does look like the 3.4 update will be quick and straightforward. 👍️

Nothing like the 3.2+ update, had an older ID3 also.
This didn’t change much though whereas some of the 3.x updates were pretty significant

Are you referring to GTX or GTX PP?

And comparing it against which Born?… presumably the VZ?

There is a thread dedicated to comparing GTX PP vs Born VZ. I listed differences at the time, not sure if the spec's have changed since…

Saw that in a review and it’s a real miss for us, as it’s part of the 1600€ option on the gtx pp which is mad, it and rear cross traffic alert is standard on our leaf that doesn’t even have parking sensors.

Have gotten used to rear traffic crossing alert and it’s been a really useful feature and would give up quite a few other features to have it, the overall pack option is probably good value but it’s a real pity can’t just spec the blind spot and rear cross traffic was they are proper day to day useful options.

We are looking at new leaf and a couple of other newer released cars but have gone back to look at the id3 as it really is still competitive with some of the pricing of other new models. It’s a small miss but a pity cant just add the option on its own when it should be standard. The real ‘area view’ with cameras mentioned above is in the pack too:

agreed - as someone who reverses a mk8 golf out of a driveway onto a busy street daily, the rear cross traffic alert is fantastic.

The blind spot radar is surprisingly good. I was tipping along on an 80 road and a car in the lane beside me was approaching very quickly, 100 minimum and the blind spot warning went off well before they were actually near me so the radar has good range and knew it was approaching at speed. If someone was to misjudge their speed and want to overtake it would still be able to alert even when something looks far away.

Add cross traffic alert and the audible warning when opening a door it's a pretty decent safety system.
