    Nice intentional misrepresentation of my statement that I don't care. Anyway…

    Its very clear you don't understand what a smart tariff is and what variable means in relation to electricity contracts.

    I'd clarify what the terms do mean but I don't want to come across as smug correcting you. You've already 'worked things out' for me so I guess youll be able to figure it all out yourself.

    Oh btw, what you 'worked out' is wrong in case you didn't figure that out yourself.

    You are far too much hassle to try and discuss something with/help.

    My term with Energia dual bundle (smart meter) is coming to an end on November 27th for electricity, but the gas contract will expire on December 2nd. I moved to them on November 26th, 2024.

    Can I switch both electricity and gas on November 27th without penalty?

    Also, do you have any suggestions for the best dual fuel provider?

    if it was me personally I would switch both on the 3rd of December just to avoid any possible penalty, the few days without discount will not be that bad

    Energypal would be the best way to find the best option and try the other switcher sites just in case

    energypal is great, you can upload your data file from Esb networks and it gives you the best plan tailored for your needs

    I am getting this error. I tried to ring ESB but they are closed today.

    I tried to download the data from energia.ie but their website is down.

    that is likely something small that Esb networks will amend while you’re on the phone, when I started it I was using a different phone number to the one on file with Esb networks

    Hi, has anyone else had the following on their bill, where I seem to have a plus figure (117.4) for export and then been charged for it? Can anyone please explain what it means? I emailed Flogas for an explanation, but got nothing back. Thanks

    117.4 is your export units.

    €21.72 is your cost from those units. Supposed to be a credit.

    (21.72 x 18.5c).

    Why there's two lines for export is weird. Perhaps it's taking back an overpayment from the last bill? Not sure

    Sorry for long post. Thank you for explaining the smart plan activation versus smart meter.

    I think last year it was recommend unless you use a lot of night time electricity that you should not switch to smart plan - is that still the same?

    I don't have a smart plan so I think energypal won't work for me for comparison. Switcher don't have my dual plan (affinity 30% off standard elect and 25% off standard gas rates).

    Comparing my discounts on Bonkers and last 12mths usage looks like I am close to national average usage and they recommend Yuno (won't touch them) and SSE dual plan (not familiar with them) . Flogas 5e more expensive for the year if I include welcome cashback. Bord Gais have offered me 30% off electric and 29% off gas standard plans (this doesn't seem to be on Bonkers compared plans).

    My plan ends Nov22 - I know Flogas had delays switching systems - does anyone know when I should apply to switch to Flogas to avoid paying full rate if I decide to move?

    I have tried reading the last few weeks of posts in this thread and have used EneryPal and Bonkers. My head is melted!

    I am seeing smart tariffs with a single 24hr rate. I understood that the reason many people wanted to stay away from activating their smart meter was the day/peak/night rates did not work out good for them and same for me. I know once activated we can't go back. Now that some suppliers have the flat 24hr rate on smart plans is it still a problem? Or do you think this is a ploy where suppliers may switch back to expensive multi rate plans in the future?

    I've a similar query to this... contract with flogas coming to an end this month. Energypal says Yuno is the best.

    Just wondering if anyone has any recent views on Yuno and the switch to smart meters generally.

    From my experience avoid.

    My smart meter apparently doesn't have enough signal to send the data to Yuno. So I have to manually send meter readings. But they only take 24 hour meter readings not the three T1/T2/T3.

    Rang ESB who told me Yuno have sent in a order for 24 hour tariff so they can only take the one reading too.

    Still getting bills with the split but Yuno refuse to tell me how they're getting/calculating the split.

    During sign up missed a call. Rang back immediately but was told only one agent could handle my switch. Promised they'd call me back in 5 minutes. Never did. Had to chase them a few times to get it processed.

    Got a few mails from Flo Gas when we switched, already with them for Gas so they had payment details. Switch easy enought and got last bill from EI. First Elec bill will be €150 in credit so see how that goes

    I had switched to Flogas yesterday but got a call from Energia this morning

    Got a 33% discount and also 150 credit on my bill. The 150 tipped it in favour of Energia

    Same. I had switched dual fuel to Flogas and got call with same percentage off plus 150 electric credit and a gas boiler service.

    I left and they called me twice! Second time with the gas boiler service included. I'm not a big user of gas or electric

    No, I just spoke to the retention team and asked what they were offering. Initially I was offered €150 cash back and slightly worse rates. I created a custom tariff on EnergyPal and told them it was still way off the best value for me, so they adjusted. I have found once you mention EnergyPal they don't faff about.

    anybody else having issues trying to switch to Flogas?

    I signed up on their website to their gas plan only to get a mail a few days later telling me that Gas networks rejected my meter reading (they couldn't have as Flogas did not ask for a meter read at any point of the sign up process, which i thought strange at the time). So i sent them a picture of the meter reading to which they again said Gas networks rejected it. Flogas requested a time stamped image of my meter.

    "we suggest your(sic) place an up-to-date newspaper or mobile phone showing the date next to your meter to prove its live"

    never had this level of disbelief of my meter reading before. Almost seems as if Flogas don't want customers

    I think the problem is that Flogas have been inundated with new sign-ups. I "switched" from Electric Ireland to Flogas on September 24th, heard nothing until I received a letter confirming my direct debit details a couple of weeks later. No welcome pack, no account number or any other communication from them until yesterday when a bill arrived in the post. The "switch" didn't take place till October 6th.

    However, I can't figure out why they need proof of the date of your meter reading, surely it would even up or down at your next billing date.

    Happened to me with looking for a photo of the meter & paper when I moved house - there hadn't been a meter read in a while & the submitted amount was out of line with the expected usage.
    Bit bloody awkward when meter is under the stairs!

    Because you could use an old photo.

    Imagine you forgot to switch and were on a high unit rate for gas. You then sign up to FloGas on a lower rate and use an old photo. You then submit a high reading with FloGas and pay for that gas on the lower rate. In effect, the photo is required to stop fraud. Seems a bit heavy handed to me but I can see the potential issue.

    How GNI know to reject the reading? I don't know! Significant time between your last actual meter reading by GNI and now? Sufficient difference between your estimated reading and your submitted reading?

    Absolutely you could use an old photo. Or lie with the data being provided. Or photoshop it.

    But as long as the reading is reasonable, i don't think theres much to quibble about over a few units.

    I've switched elsewhere via bonkers and they have not required a photo (as yet) to make the switch. so it seems to me that either Flogas are the blocker (and blame GNI) or theres a serious deficiency in the switching process.

    My bet is that the blocker is Flogas (as they rejected me first time without even having a reading and used the same excuse that GNI rejected my reading).

    Also my account had a small credit (not sure how) on it back in Sept with SSE, so potentially thats causing an issue too (but meter reading is higher than then). Looking at the previous bill (12/sep) it was based on an actual read. My read on 6/nov was 77 units higher. We've had a reasonably mild sept/oct so not much usage.

    my smart data contract is up next Thursday , having read here I rang Energia and I ran my numbers through energy pal and EI day night rate is coming up with the best rate. Energia offered me two rates 20% discount and then 30% discount with a €150 credit , he offered €100 at the beginning. These are the rates 28.14 day, 30.02 peak and 14.79 EI and Energia 29.49, 33.12 and 16.21 night. So my question is would you go with the Higher unit rates and the cash bonus or lower unit rates and no bonus. He reckons the difference is €60 in Energia favour
