Due to change supplier in a month from now, currently on FloGas for dual energy.

    I have a smart meter.

Who have the best deal other than FloGas at the moment?

upload your data to energypal and see what the results are 👍

My current contact for both gas and electricity will be over by this month end.

We are expected to move out to a new House in 4 months.

I believe since I will be breaking the contract I will be charged with the fees.

Any recommendations for the best move in my scenario?

I had never heard of yuno till I used energy pal last year. I read all the negative things here too, in particular about the first bill being an inflated estimate. When I rang them to enquire and told them my usage was low, 2500 kwh/year and that I would not pay their estimate up front they reduced it in line with my usage. Worked fine for the year until my contract was up. So yes, they price matched! Which I can't argue with. For me, still the cheapest.

Thanks for all the infos regarding to Yuno!
I'm not sure but having the itch to cancel the switch. The grief of signing up and nor Yuno neither Switcher.ie is eager to sort out the €350 cashback what was promised at the start.
I wonder if I rang them with the intention of cancelling would they do something about it?

I signed up with Yuno mainly for the €265 cash back on electricity only. I'm a very low user.

Tbh the whole thing is a bit of a mess. I was given incorrect information about the process during sign up but finally got that resolved.

The predictions are mental though. So far I've averaged 3.5 units a day. There prediction is over 10 per day...

    Hi all,

If I switch to Energia from Electric Ireland, how soon after I sign up do I start on the new tariff?

Is it back-dated to when I changed, or do I have to wait for Energia to process everything?

    TIA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,566 ✭✭✭Masala

Just rang Electric Ireland to enquiry about a Day & Night Rate for me as an existing customer on a Fixed Rate….

Been advised that a Team Member will contact me .. and gave me a date 7 x Days away at 3pm in afternnoon!! So have to wait a week to speak to someone …… holy gawd !!!! thats some customer service.

They cant even tell me what phone number they will be using so as to know its not spam…. its Unbelievable Jeff.

Usually when you apply to switch, you submit a meter reading. Its that meter reading they use to calculate your closing bill and the opening meter reading for your new supplier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,188 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

surely the info would be in the website ?
Maybe you could use energy pal and see what the recommended company comes up as, it will advise you on the best tariff

I switched from Energia to Flogas on 9th Oct online and submitted a meter reading during that process. But the switch wasn't implemented until 15th and Energia sent a second final bill for another six days. So in my case the new tariff didn't kick in immediately and I had to pay full whack to Energia for the extra days since I was then out of contract for my discount.

to add to my previous post:

    • Do the providers allow moving to a different location, considering moving from an Urban to an Urban location, so everything remains the same? If they allow, then I can skip paying the termination fee and no need to return any joining bonus
    • If I take a dual plan, do the suppliers charge termination fees separately or once?

On website … it seems to be for NEW customers.

if a deal is for new customers and you’re an existing customer they won’t give it to you, initiate a switch and they might offer you something

My energia ev night rate contract is coming to an end. Enerypal showing a 24month pinergy plan as best savings for me.

Probably won't go with it as prefer a 12 month contract right now but went onto the pinegery site to look at the plan options and it's a disaster.

Can't find much detail about plans at all, just a one liner like 5.49c ex vat per kwh then a button to sign up here. Incredibly poor interface.

I was given cash back and new customer rates from Energia to stay with them. Smart Data plan + €150 cash back. I'll stay on that until March and then switch back to the EV tariff. That doesn't incur the €50 charge to break contract, it's a new 12 month contract with them.

If you phone them, they might offer 12 months. I did that on the phone. If you've got a house battery, they make a lot of sense.

Also, their solar feed in tariff is very good.

I managed to have a bill of minus €600 for the year (including standing charge). Just charge the batteries for 5c per unit at night and sell off the excess solar and use the battery to make it to 2am without paying any regular unit price.

    I got the call.

After wasting my time for about 15 mins, during which it was obvious they knew exactly the tariff I had to moved to with Flogas & the cost (25.18c & 12.64c), the guy offered me………32c & 16c🙄. He also offered my €150 new customer credit but I'm a heavy user and I'd burn through that in no time with the huge difference in unit rates.

WFT did they bother to ring? The guys opening remark was something like "if we can match the price, will you cancel the move?".

I got my final bill from them later in the day with the €50 termination fee.

My contract is almost up with Flogas and I'm interested in their current 'new customer' offer if this is an option. I think I've seen it mentioned here several times before that you can just sign up again using a partner's name or different bank account. But I can't see the old Boards option for searching this thread, so could someone please confirm the new customer requirement. E.g. a different customer name and/or bank account required, or other thing altogether...

    TIA

He told me who he was, why he was calling, asked why I left Energia early, security questions, asked about my usage, tried to get me to move to a smart tariff and why I wouldn't when I refused, told me about the great offer he was making, didn't believe me when I told him the tariff I had been on with Energia etc etc

The final part of the conversation was me asking could I be put back on the tariff I was on AND get the €150 sign-up bonus but no joy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,188 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

the man that called in paid to ring you so that’s why he bothered to ring you

Talking to the bloke for 15 minutes seems like madness

📞Can you beat this price ?

    no

    Okay bye

I am a bit confused by the above post and Yuno's text:

You can join Yuno Energy and avail of this plan without a smart meter, however, to avail of the full benefits and usage insight offered in the Yuno Energy app, you will need to agree to have a smart meter installed by ESBN.

My question is this, can you be a customer of Yuno on a non-activated smart meter? I know how I use electricity without Yuno insights. My only requirement is they bill me for the units I use.

Ok ..you must have an activated meter ?

However, that is not what they say above. Activated meter is only for full benefits and insights. In plain English they are not saying an activated meter is conditional on the supply. If it is, then the text I quoted is false and misleading.

Also if you search on switcher for non-smart plans, why would a a Yuno smart plan be top of the list ? That's a false result if you are searching for non-smart plans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 823 ✭✭✭Moving2017

You can join Yuno without a smart meter. If you don’t have a smart meter, you get Yuno 24 hour rates without the insights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,188 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

If you don’t have a smart meter when you join then you will end up with a smart meter that will be used for data

You don’t have to be in a smart plan though

Not necessarily. There is no requirement to accept a smart meter instal. But they do say they’ll request a priority install.

But if you do have a smart meter they will activate it.
