I found that AA works intermittently , about ten percent of the time, not sure what that tells me, prob leaning more to the head unit being the issue ,I'm am guessing if USB port was the cause , AA would never work, Im sure I have a battle ahead with Hyundai service

Mrs H has decided she'd like an Ioniq 5. Just starting to do a bit of research on them.

Is there a catch here that I'm not seeing :

73KwH battery, 22 reg. The only thing remotely jumping out at me is the mileage (105k KM). At €20K it seems cheap.

On the Aa issue mentioned above, my local dealer has said Av units are covered for two years only, Hyundai Ie website says this... audio visual navigation AVN or radio units covered for three years.. Mine car is 221, it's debatable if this means Android auto is not covered. The way around this is I belive have the USB port replaced under warranty, unless someone has a better workaround

Car failing to DC charge but working fine under home AC charge. Have tried few different ESB, Ionity to check.

    ICCU problem I guess?

More than lightly, I had the opposite problem, would not charge from AC, DC was fine - had to wait a week for the part so wasn't too bad.

I have a 2022 Executive Plus trim, bought second hand and I don't get an audio alert if I go above the speed limit. The speed limit text does change from black to red on the dash so it is been read correctly. I think I have every possible setting on for audio alert and do get them with LKA.

Trying to understand if it's a feature the car should have and what could be wrong?

    Count yourself lucky!

My 2022 cupra didnt audibly alert me either, my 2025 one does.

Maybe the regulations changed between then and now. Someone will prob be able to confirm

My car is 2022 and I fitted the Hyundai removable hitch for use with a bike rack only as my car doesn't have the factory wiring.

The hitch itself is invisible and can be fitted without cutting the bumper, I have seen some OEM hitches that cut into the bumper and they look terrible.

Afaik the 2025 model doesn't have a factory hitch available for some reason

I got a towbar fitted to my 231 Ioniq 5 a few years ago. Here is a few images. It’s a detachable one but i always leave it on. Works great as a last resort parking sensor!!!

They had to cut out underneath the bumper to fit it. I have a bike rack and cargo box. I use the the bike rack more but the cargo box is a great thing if you are bringing the car on holidays - no roof rack so no noise. Parking isn’t so bad with it either same as with a bike rack

Well the camera is blocked so you are back to old style reversing. I have never hit anything but on holidays if there is a wall the wife does get out to make sure I don’t. That would be the same for the bike rack and a trailer tho, none of those have reversing sensors either. It’s more compact so easier. Tbh the best thing about the box is it takes a large volume of luggage and you can open the boot with it attached

    Looks pretty neat tbh.

Do you need to / can you deactivate the sensors so it doesn't go mad? Can I ask how much? I have heard about €750 which seems a lot for the amount I would use it for bikes.

I am planning on getting a roof bars, just wish the car had rails for quick on / off.

I don't deactivate the sensors so when I go into reverse I get the loud beeping noise. If I knew of a way to deactivate them then I would but haven't bothered to look it up - it's so little time you spend in reverse not really worth the hassle to me. But there is no noise with just the towbar attached so it's ok. I can't remember exact price, it was pricey tho! - I got the bar fitted and bought the cargo box and bike rack all in the same day from towingequipment.ie I found them very good and would highly recommend them. I looked at their website there and I see it going for €1,000 fitted which is definitely more than I paid for just the towbar but I would have gotten a decent discount since I was buying alot from them

so stupid considering us regions and others get them.

To deactivate the parking sensors you press the "P" button on the dash, you have to do it every time you put the car in reverse though.

Any issue with only charging for 2 hours at a time regularly? Does about 7kw per hour so less that 10%. Was doing one big charge a week but recently moved to a 2hr 8c per kmh window.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,558 ✭✭✭joe1303l

it shouldn’t make any difference other than it’s a lot more hassle. Potentially a bit more wear n tear on your charge point and the cars onboard charger switching on/off.

Not sure if sticky parking brake has come up before?

I have a new facelift Ionic 5 Platinum since August. Very happy so far, but as we're now into inclement Autumn I notice sometimes when pulling off I get a big clunk and a sudden jolt from the Parking brake seemingly unsticking itself. It's suppose to release when I put it in Drive, but I guess when it's been overnight in the wind and rain, it's sticking?

It feels a bit rough, so I hope it's not doing damage?
I read somewhere that it's recommended to give the brakes a few good stabs occasionally as with the regen they don't get used so much and need to have surface rust cleaned off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,873 ✭✭✭John arse

Yeah they stick sometimes after getting wet, nothing to worry about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 928 ✭✭✭Gwynston

Thanks. That's a relief, but it's still not pleasant to experience….!

On another note - it's nice that the new I5 actually has a rear wiper, but it's a shame it's so small!
Doing some Googling, I've seen discussions mostly in the US about it. Apparently, the wiper is 12in and some have confirmed that replacing it with a 16in one produces better results - I guess adding 2in to each end.

Has anyone in Ireland/UK found a 16in replacement with the correct fitting?
(Just in case the US-built I5 uses different parts)

I have a 2023 Ioniq (Premium) which I bought 4 weeks ago. I have not been able to get the scheduled charging working from the car. It has only worked twice for me since I got it. At the start I plugged it in and it would start charging immediately, now I plug it in it says it will start charging at x time but 10 minutes later it starts charging. This means I am charging at expensive times and not making the most of my cheap rate. I have everything selected both in the car and the app that is needed. I set up directly from the car - it didn't work. I set up directly from the app - it didn't work. I have tried lost of combinations for timings and it doesn't work. I have the latest software update. I am out of ideas :) Does anyone have any ideas?

This is my 2nd Electric Car (Kia) and I never had any issues previously scheduling directly from the car.

I don't have a SMART Charger (I cannot connect to it) to run the schedule from there. I really do not want to upgrade my charger for this car.

Which charger do you have? Does have a touchscreen or pad that will allow you to manually set a schedule?

Also the clocks went back last week, have you set the daylight saving time in the car? There maybe a time conflict between the car and the app.

go to the car and take screenshots of the scheduled charge settings. I have screenshots on this thread somewhere….

I had a weird thing happen to me twice - first yesterday and again this morning.

Out of the blue, the radio cuts out and after a couple of seconds the Google Maps comes up on screen. Not sure the first time, but today I then heard Voice Assistant cut in and say "Sorry, I didn't understand that", and then the radio came back.

I didn't press the voice command button, so I'm guessing there are maybe some wake up phrases? Maybe it thought it heard me say "Map" or similar?

The above should charge your car within the time slots of 2-5am only, every day, if battery level is below your set AC charge limit %

Lovely 5N for sale in Mooney's.

6 or 7 months too early for me, but probably the colour I'd go for too.
