On the evidence of this weekend we'll do well to match last year's points tally against the other provinces.

You'd hope we improve but the other 3 look leagues ahead of us. Add in bulls, stormers, Glasgow and there's only 2 more top 8 spots on the offing for us, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Benetton, sharks and possibly lions if/when they get their act together. Will be tough but it was always going to be.

Don't understand what your saying, bulls are a filthy team, nothing false in my claims. They have the talent to play and entertain but chose not to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 368 ✭✭Strand1970

So happy Stuart is the head coach. We have one of the best. From now on its down to the players performance without any discussion about the head coach. It will take a while to get rid of some of the dead wood in the team and some of that is local players. The new local talent are exciting especially Devine, he will 100% have an Irish cap as a starter in the next few years. I suspect Stuart is giving Blade the benefit of the doubt which is fair enough but Devine is the real deal. Connacht have always been blessed wat 9. Exciting times coming

If everyone is meant to be getting a fair go, I would hope Devine starts against Munster.

Love to see a Forde Gavin centre too.

Munster were very good today. We have it all to do.

Delighted for munster, for years they were delusional are kept thinking they were top table and were dismayed when losing especially to connacht. Nice to see things might, might be levelling out between the 4 provinces some what. When I say that I mean the other 3 provinces coming up to Leinsters level not the other way around

To win next week, Devine needs to start with Blade off the bench. 100% reckon we will be in play offs at end of the season with Stuart as coach. it will be a different squad next year. Connacht needs to be successful as a brand regardless of local talent short term with an eye long term of having local players

Blade will be in Chicago next Saturday....

That selection is more an indictment of where Irish rugby is at rather than a positive

Not sure if that was 2 points lost or 2 gained. I think we saw the challenge that this league poses fairly clearly, good teams, well organized with significant physical advantages over us. I think we did pretty well in the circumstances to come back and nearly steal it. Couple of lapses in concentration in the first half cost us dearly.

I'm looking forward to seeing Naughton start at 10.

Would start Devine. I'd be praying that Boyle is available to play at 6 and SHL at 7. Otherwise, the bill for jettisoning Oliver is in the post.

Hope that Murphy goes well in front of the sentencing commission, with Niall Murray and Oisin Dowling injured our lock stocks are low.

Do what you and other fans want and Ireland will end up like England/Wales.

The same players provided Ireland with a 78% win record, the 2nd highest in world rugby this World Cup cycle just behind SA’s 81%…more of that please as opposed to a 60% & 6% record please!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,412 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

He's a legend obviously but id rather we moved on from Buckley for big games. That starting front 5 seriously lacks power.

honestly lost the will to respond to such. but your opinion matters to me so please feel free to provide more incisive details

Lost the will to respond to direct facts and evidence that totally contradicts the point you are making?

So I’ll ask again, with a win record of 78% and 14 from 18 matches how is Andy Farrell destroying Irish rugby?

In all fairness there is a thread dedicated to chat about the Irish team and Andy Farrell. This thread is for discussing Connacht.

    What can we say…

We had 50% off the tee in not the worst night for kicking.

Bulls are pretty filthy and the ref was there for letting them away with it… Three of our players were given a shots in the act of scoring… Adamson did not protect our players… His red card to Murphy after the TMO told him it was a yellow was also disappointing.

This time last year we would have been drummed out the door. We have a defence that kept us in it even after we let in a few disappointing tries. There pack had us under a lot of trouble all night and still played rugby.

They are a serious side who were hurting after a bad loss last week.. We lost by a point. We probably have to be more match smart at the end, we had a penalty advantage and poor kicker… 6 points down, you keep it in the middle of the pitch as possible, to score from that corner was less than 50/50…

We are early days, yes the results could be better but we are far more competitive team… Putting together a attacking structure takes time, Mark Sexton was there months while we saw the ball going back and over the field going no where.. We scored 4 tries with no scrum or maul… That is not nothing…

Get a kicker or back Naughton more and we could have had three wins by this stage…

I would be looking more to Devine, he is in form and present better attacking ball..

connacht should lodge an official complaint about this!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭The Subliminal Verses

no he's not and it's moronic to think otherwise TBH

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,841 ✭✭✭typhoony

Fair play to Farrell getting called up to the national squad, well deserved. It's just my opinion but i had the impression from talking to people at the time when he signed for Munster that we had enough centre options/combinations that he would not be missed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,841 ✭✭✭typhoony

With injuries and players on ireland duty Munster will be selecting a weakened team for this weekends game. A must win game for Connacht

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,044 ✭✭✭CowboyTed

In fairness Tom Farrell is probably the best uncapped player in the world. I am willing for someone to pull a name to challenge that… Hope he breaks that duck, totally deserved, probably should go way earlier in his career..

Remember a Connacht v Munster day at the sportsground. Tom Farrell is doing a number on Chris Farrell (who was on Irish team at the time). Auld buck from Munster beside me, give me a nudge, "I think we bought the wrong Farrrell…"

Given the injuries/international duty is go with something like this. (I've included SHL as they are going to make a decision on availability later this week)

Dooley, Heffernan, Illo, N Murray, Joyce, Boyle, SHL*, Jansen, Divine, Ioane, Jennings, Forde, Gavin, Tracey, Naughton

DTM, Duggan, Auinger, D Murray, SOB/Murphy/McCormack*, Murphy, Carty, Hawkshaw, Ralston

    *Depending on availability
