    County finals day,

    Senior

    Ballina V Westport

A repeat of the 2022 final which Westport won and Ballina going for 3 in a row

    Intermediate

    Killmena V Moy Davits

MD has being putting big scores en route to the fina

    Verdict Ballina and Moy Davits

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 509 ✭✭✭TsuDhoNimh

Not a whole lot between the two intermediate sides in terms of scoring.

MD edging it slightly with 124 (12-11-66), a little over 1 point a game more compared to Kilmeena's 118 (8-8-78). Kilmeena making up the difference on a slightly tighter defence, giving them a better overall scoring difference for the year to date.

That one could be a crackin' game, fingers crossed. Huge battle in the middle third, both with the firepower to convert and both with plenty of recent heartache to help push them to really go for it.

Listening to the intermediate match....seems to be decent quality....a few 2 pointers flying over

just arrived for the second half of the intermediate final, for all the interest I have in that. No idea where Kilmeena even is tbh. My dad is hardcore though. 🤷‍♂️

What a game! Only listening to it on MidWest but it's a cracker

kilmeena sneak it. Ref played beyond allotted time mds had a shot for an equaliser (or maybe two point winner) on the dying seconds but it dropped into keepers hands.

Quality of games is definitely improving. Positive attacking play is being rewarded. Other teams take note.

Which is why I prefer if Westport to win the senior.

saw Paul lawless chatting with the heather humphries campaigners on the way in. Though he was more of a soccer man but I guess tds kind of have to be gaa fans…

Westport hanging in after a great start from Ballina. The first couple of scores in the 2nd half will be big

I was saying to a few friends during the week that one consolation for Crossmolina losing the semi final is that their young players would not have to face OHora and his dangerous tackles. He has succeeded in removing both Mayos finest defender and himself from the final. Ballina clearly the winners from that outcome. Terrible.

Big turnaround for Westport in the last few mins, 2 x 2 pointers plus a black card for Ballina

Sounded like a cracking finish. Westport will probably feel like they should have won that

I've no idea why Lee Keegan was heavily tackled after he kicked the ball. Lots of people at the game missed it as they were looking at his kick going over the bar. I saw the tackle as I was directly in line with O Hora as he took off to get a hit on Keegan. He had kicked the ball, the tackle was pointless and dangerous. Overall the ref had a disappointing game in my opinion and at one stage relied on the shouting of the crowd to award a close in free for not enough of defenders back. A fair result to the game in the end but after the start Ballina had, I've no idea how they feel after not winning it. Carney had a good 2nd half, not in the 1st but no players stood out. I feel Westport will win the replay if they get stuck in for the dirty ball around the middle of the field. The 2 McLoughlin's played well for them but Eoin has more in him. Ideal man to take on the cleaning out around the middle if he's given the job. I'm from neither club by the way but that's my take on the game. The intermediate game was a far better game in my view, and overall well done to the Co Board for the value for money today. Anyone have a latest on the injuries to the 2 lads, Keegan and O Hora?

Quite literally inches or milliseconds from making the block. Not late and not intended purely to hit Lee. The type of block Lee himself would be proud to attempt to make.

Turned out a real nasty one for both lads. Fingers crossed it's not nearly as nasty as it looked and a rapid recovery for both.

The probably here is not that it was a fraction late but the technique. Keegan is totally prone when kicking the ball, especially his standing leg, and O'Hora makes as much of an attempt to make contact with Keegan as he does ball.

I think OHora knew well what he was doing there. He knew he wasnt gonna get there to prevent the shot.

That reminds me of those people I hear about from south east Mayo who have never been to North Mayo. They do exist apparently.

County borders dont really reflect the people who live in the areas. South Mayo ( Ballindine, Kilmaine, Hollymount, Garrymore ) and North Galway ( Dunmore, Milltown, Kilconly) are basically from the same ancient Irish clans even though they both hate the other county far more than say someone in Westport and Oranmore. The county borders that we put so much store in are basically lines drawn on a map by the English and do not reflect Irish peoples natural environment or range. Was in a pub in Tuam one day where the owner, a Tuam native, referred to the town as the capital of South Mayo

Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but applies to any border unless its a sea or maybe mountainous border.

Any line drawn on a map is an artifical divide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,985 ✭✭✭Westernview

Some of that may be true but the availability of private cars, buses, satellite navigation, and internet information means the 'natural environment and range' you refer to bears little or no resemblance today to when maps and boundaries were drawn up. People are far more mobile nowadays.

He was talking about Mart day only and when we'd be baitin them up in the stadium. Mayo money has always kept the bedraggled Tuam shams from having life support cut off.🤠

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,871 ✭✭✭muddle84

That hate specifically originates from the football rivalry. Seeing as they live on the border they're at the cold front of that rivalry. Same with other border towns as well!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 643 ✭✭✭Avon8

Mayo's record in the stadium for a very long time was in keeping with 'Mayo Money', i.e non existent!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,456 ✭✭✭spakman

Bring back Tuam! A kip, but a great place for football.

Big boost for Westport if it's true. I still had Ballina as slight favourites earlier in the week but that would edge it for Westport IMO

The word in Ballina this week was that both would start
