    Yes,He got MOTM.

I'm a big fan of his,his line breaking, speed and tackling are brilliant.

His skills are limited but he knows this, you won't see him shoot for a point,he's scored a few fisted points and of course he's good for a few goals as we've seen.

I'm just wondering what the story is with the rumours that he's off the panel. He may be opting out but the rumour is he was dropped......in early October.......from the Inter county panel.

You'd seriously have to wonder at the intelligence of some Mayo fans.

Why are you questioning the intelligence of Mayo fans who are saying he has been dropped? Surely they wouldn't be saying it unless there was something behind it?

While it's only early October, do you not think that Andy will be putting his squad together at this stage?

I hadn't heard McLoughlin was dropped, I had heard of a few others who were. It's seems a provisional squad may have been formed in the last few weeks. I would be disappointed if Andy wasn't putting a squad together at this stage tbh.

Ah come on, don't be so nieve.

People post all sorts of things without anything behind them on message boards all the time.

On Kobe, I heard he was talking with the Pittsburgh Steelers when they were in Dublin a few weeks ago about possibly trying out for them as a punter.

It's actually true Eoghan mc was dropped . Along with 4 others . He can be hit & miss in fairness . As others said I'd be worried if Andy was not organising a team by now . We need new blood and fresh faces in the squad.

I also heard from people in Westport that he was dropped.

There are others I'd have dropped ahead of him though, especially a few players the wrong side of 30 and struggling with recurring injuries.

Why would you be fairly confident he was not dropped ? I'd be dissapointed if Andy was not getting his **** together and culling players that are not good enough by now to be honest . I heard 4 other players were dropped also .

Yup agree but I did hear 4 others were dropped along with him but not sure who else but Eoghan mc definetly was dropped . It may seem harsh but we need a manager who will be ruthless and fair to. Some where worried that Andy would be to nice. Seems he is not taking any prisoners though . I'm glad he is shaking things up .

I've heard it from a good few people that would be involved in Westport that Eoghan has been dropped, a lot of people have this story that would be reliable sources. But until we see or don't see him next year it will just be hearsay!

A lot of people on the terrace from Knockmore were confirming and Colm is taking a year out as well, so it will be interesting to see who Andy pulls in for this position. Alot of people had it that one of our former goalies is making a return!

The game in Charlestown was some spectacle, one of the best club games i've ever got to see in Mayo. Kobe is without doubt the real deal! He was sensational considering his age and the level he was up against. Its really disheartening to hear he might be heading to Oz! Surely someone could sell a few factory units(seeing as people aren't allowed to sleep in them anymore) or something and throw a load of money at him to keep him here!!

Whatever he decides to do, good luck to the lad, he has a bright future whatever path he decides to take!

Oh that's interesting a former mayo goalie returning? David Clarke? He's still the best goalie in Mayo .

Not a good sign in terms of the goalkeeping talent in the county.

Clarke and Hennelly have given great service but I don't think either are suited to the new role coming up the pitch and contributing to attacks in the opposition half.

Your right there not great . Thought Reape got an awful lot of abuse . Not his fault we have no midfield that can not catch a ball.. ! Andy should look at giving some of Ballinas midfield a chance .

the new role coming up the pitch and contributing to attacks in the opposition half.

That role disappeared as soon as the FRC tweaked the 3 back rule mid league or whenever early this season.

I don't think I have seen a keeper come up the field since.

Long accurate kickouts are now what a keeper has to concentrate on.

Not sure any of our two excel in that area.

Oh.. do you think he is good enough though? with the new rules and fit enough at least Reape had pace to run up half the pitch and back .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,963 ✭✭✭Westernview

It may have reduced in frequency yes but keepers are still allowed to receive the ball in the opposition half. Think we will still see them involved at certain stages, particularly when a team is behind near the end of a game or during a game if forwards are struggling to get an overlap to work a score.

Id rather let the 2 lads enjoy retirement with their clubs at this stage.

Beggan and Morgan both have done occasionally since the rule change but both were fairly prolific at doing so before the new rules anyway. Aside from that, very few do it.

I do think it was a mistake to amend that rule - I though it added a bit of excitement and jeopardy to the game by allowing the Keeper to act as an extra man in the opposition half, but any interception when a keeper is out the field raised the stakes considerably.

He was 100% dropped and in ruthless fashion. Moran told him he is too injury prone and was not impressed that he spent the summer in America. Lost a lot of respect for Andy on this. Mayo have limited players with his power and pace. This is the same manager is making noises about bringing Cillian back who can barely get through a club game without getting injured and wouldn't commit to his county last year. Bad omens for his people management skills.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,963 ✭✭✭Westernview

That's the same story I heard..that he should have spent the summer at home rehabilating the injury.

Maybe its just to make a statement for the squad and that they could let him rejoin the squad at a later date. But it sounded very harsh and Im not sure that's the way to deal with modern players.

I was hoping Andy would be more ruthless in terms of letting go of the old guard, not players in their athletic prime.

He cant solo the ball like its a basic requirement

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,858 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

I don't believe this is true, he told another Mayo player last June he was taking a year out and I don't think anything has changed in the interim. Likewise Colm Reape decided to take time out before Andy was appointed and that hasn't changed.

Of course he can solo. If he couldn't solo, he wouldn't be able to make all of those runs up the wings.

It's only 5 years ago that he was nominated for young player of the year. He's still only about 25. Coming into his prime. I think it is a poor decision to drop him if it's true. And Saturday's match against Crossmolina goes some way towards supporting that. Using the excuse as to what he did during the summer is also poor management. These are amateur players. What they do in the months subsequent to getting knocked out of championship should be their own perogotive - to take a little break for themselves.

Anyway, maybe they are only rumours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,871 ✭✭✭muddle84

This stuff always happens this time of year in the quiet time when there's no county games. I wouldn't be changing opinion on Andy over these rumours. Even if Eoghan is not there next year, it doesn't mean he was dropped, it doesn't mean Andy actually said any of that stuff. Unless Eoghan comes out and clarifies what actually happened. Which would save alot of this messing. But we all know that won't happen!

Looking forward to what other rumours come out!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 727 ✭✭✭GBXI

You don't have to believe it if you don't want but it is 100% accurate, the dropping and the two reasons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,017 ✭✭✭Hulk Hands

You're questioning peoples intelligence for repeating something that half the country seems to know at this point? It was even mentioned on one of the podcasts

Perhaps you need to work on your social intelligence

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,716 ✭✭✭crusd

I was wondering would it be possible to make a Mayo team of players who everyone started to believe were superstars once they stopped being picked have given out about them when they were playing

Austin O'Malley, Jason Gibbons, Evan Regan, David Drake, Mort….

    Anyone else?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,963 ✭✭✭Westernview

I don't remember hearing anything about him taking a year out but. Where did you hear/read that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 520 ✭✭✭boosabum

    Richie feeney

The father of a player told me about EMcL while talking about the weekend matches.

Colm told me himself about the travelling but it was common knowledge

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,963 ✭✭✭Westernview

I spoke to people in westport and I only heard the other story about Andy dropping him.

That is interesting. He is trying to lay down a marker for the rest to see or maybe Boyle is driving him, a real Horan v1.0 move. The problem is he picked the wrong player. You could argue the rest of the panel should have gone to america and did what he did…. to charge the batteries for the new season as they were playing feck all IC ball. It will look a very foolish move if Westport nail the county and he is rocking.
