JD made something out of his life but that was a cringe interview . R D hadn't a clue how to interview

Delete I understand about Jenny and A M Kelly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,748 ✭✭✭Bellbottoms

Yes he did and yes it was a bad interview. But the Duffster is no longer working class.

Why is Ann Marie Kelly relevant to Ray Darcy? I dont get the connection? I used to listen to her 5-7 show one time when I had a crazy early commute back in the 2000's. Was an enjoyable show going on memory. Less adverts and competitions than when Ian Dempsey came on.

That's Rte waltz in. Never knew much of his show but thought it wrong his wife was involved and did he have a child of his make a jingle ..i didn't suffer him enough to know about porridge etc but all that using his interests ,having wife on team is just nepotism and childish . Shouldn't be allowed to pontificate his interest . I was only exposed to his crap at an appointment , in waiting room , so was lucky . Used to be trying to block ny ear as couldn't concentrate reading book with his annoying drivel. Did no one in RTE realise it was drivel??

In his defence, his meet his wife on the show. She was one of the producers.

There was an incident years ago, when they were doing a OB and she didn't show up for the show next morning. They rang her phone live on air. A guest from the OB answered it. Said she was in the shower or something. So Ray was not always hooking up with Jenny.

She moved along with the rest of the production staff. Will Hanafin, Maraird Farrell, etc all moved over with him.

To be fair, she was a producer on his show before they got together, so she was fairly part of the team...

Can hardly just grab Zig and Zag or Dustin . Wouldn't they be 'owned' by some company ? Would be giving them a wide berth tbh. Far too noisy .

Maybe Podge and Rodge. Years ago a lot of presenters on Two FM had a sort of sidekick. Jim O'Neil and Thing. A dj on a local had a character which was just the dj with voice sped up and edited into a 'conversation' with the dj

That bit about buttons says a lot . Pathetic really .

Good for him. He should have stayed in ballyer on the dole? It made me laugh when poor people said "you know what i mean Joe" about lack of money ..

I am not saying he should have stayed in Ballyer or wherever he is from. But he is not working class anymore. Nothing wrong with that. But he could do with a bit of self awareness.

I wonder would Rte buy an original idea..

And Callan got 2 hours? I don't listen much I think they are all fairly poor. I'd listen to liveline if it was an interesting discussion , not to people competing on how sad poor or sick they are ,aided by presenter trying for tears

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 716 ✭✭✭Woodcutting

Still hardly fair to rte staff. He's so special he brought his own production team .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,860 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Ya? They bought him as a package (even though by then the shine of his today fm show has gone already...)

Having your own producers is quite normal

However, employing your partner/spouse in a job that is dependent on your own job is an exceptionally stupid thing to do - e.g. TDs having their partner as their political assistant. They are possibly the best person for the job, but if you lose your job; they lose theirs. And you now have 0 income in the house.

This is so unfair. Surely if you were able to give your OH a nice job where you worked you'd happily bring her in. I just don't get the hate, you probably don't even have an OH TBH. It's typical of the type on boards, jealous because of Ray and his talent. Anyway I am off to set up an instagram account called Ray Rave and I am going to follow his amazing journey from unwanted Radio Presenter to the best presenter ever across the world.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

I normally agree with all your posts but not this one .

McInerney and O’hEadhra never worked … way too false, too contrived..puerile and cringe inducing attempts at banter

Good riddance to both of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,597 ✭✭✭Brian Scan

    Yes, the banter was terrible.

I don't think Mairead moved over with him. Didn't she start doing her own show on TodayFM

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,441 ✭✭✭mountain

from memory, Darcy, his wife, and producer Will moved to RTE, a nice move on their part, however one that probably caused resentment in both RTE and Today FM

His show on RTE was bland, the quiz was junior cert level, his inability to press the right buttons on the desk was comically bad

In hindsight, it's strange that RTE headhunted him from TodayFM when they did. His show and brand were well on the waine by the time RTE came knocking.

It has to be said his TodayFM show at onr time was pound for pound one if the best shows on Irish radio.

was Darcy’s contract broken and which side broke it. I think it was up to end of year. If he broke it then RTE does not pay out . If RTE broke it then it pays out. Was his contract specifically related to presenting the RD Show or was it a case that RTE could get him to do other shows/work and at different times

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,193 ✭✭✭RoTelly

He may have been already out of contract, and he was pro-rata for the last few months. We will know when the 2025 AR is published next year.

Lookit…..I have been saying it all along, at the end of the day the lad was just a DJ.

That’s not to denigrate him but it was obvious he only perked up when music was the discussion subject.

He seemed uncomfortable with other stuff and re-enforced a lot his comments as well as numerous small gaffes..

Having said that there was no real harm in the lad and these observations are merely facts..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,748 ✭✭✭Bellbottoms

Sorry, you are right. My mistake. I think she is the only one who didn't move over.

I actually enjoyed it for awhile think I listened a bit when Gerry Ryan show started to go downhill which I think it did big time .Still think it strange RTE wanted Ray so bad as his show even at its peak would have had no place with RTE.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,193 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Would have made more sense if he'd been put on 2FM and continue to do what he did on Today FM. Instead they gave him the mid-afternoon programme on Radio 1.

would have been more suited but Gerry Ryan was still there but Ray was not RTE1 material for sure .
