When Ray was brought in by RTE he just left Today fm there and then as far as I can remember no time to say goodbye and that has happened to others as well so I don't get that he is 'upset' at not having the chance to say goodbye to his few listeners. They don't all get the chance that Joe got to have lap of honour for weeks .

You should listen to his interview with Sinead Burke, though perhaps she is more to blame.

Pat Kenny I think was on holiday when he left, still trying to find out his last broadcast date on RTÉ.

Now surely a few boards fan-boy might defend him with something like "He was a good Children's TV presenter!"

Why do you need 4 presenters for a 2 hour show, Mary Wilson was able to handle Drivetime on her own. 2 is is more than enough.

I will have to start being a fan boy to Ray he's been left on his own, where are the Tub's guys.

Firstly, and out of context how much do you expect to pay someone as good as him.

Secondly, your beliving a member of RTÉ's leadership team, they have just thrown him under a bus.

But TBH not sure I can believe either Ray or RTÉ on this, or that I even care enough. Might start an instgram raving about ray.

    Ah! Ray's Rave :)

Not a chance - Dempseys Den was pure TV gold - “The Den” was a poor imitation

I can distinctly remember how awful Ray's Superstar Dogs TV show on RTE TV was…

That was one of the best shows RTÉ ever produced, Ray was fantastic with the Dogs, he just knows Dogs, no one but Ray could have ever hosted that show. It's just typical boards begrudgary.

Thrown under a bus so Ray has, and its not like he had some fancy deal with renault, probably didn't even get a pair of flip-flops.

Which women are you refering to ? I am confused by the second part of your post. Sorry.

Really a reference to an older post that the new Head of Radio 1 and Head of Audio (both women) are clearing up shop, but as soon as they have done so they've brought in a "big" name to present liveline.

The Nuacht team must have had some major p!ss up last night

Only occasionally listened to Ray but he often sounded that his heart wasn’t in it and was bored. Seemed preachy also, read an article about giving up alcohol after nagging by his family even though he admitted he only had 2 glasses of wine on a Friday. Said he feels much better now.

They did do some of what I was suggesting, and now the morning run makes more sense.

But getting rid of O'Eadhra and McInerney off Drivetime is ridiculous. They do a good job, have good chemistry, and ask hard questions without being fobbed off, eg, the appearances of the Russian and Israeli Ambassadors over the past 2 to 4 years.

I'd give them a fair lump of credit for that fascist apologist Dana Erlich being withdrawn by Tel Aviv.

Anyone remember Ray's TV interview with Pamela Anderson? Cringe is not the word.

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-20365336.html

Or indeed the fake Jack Nicholson?

Yeah Ray is a real loss

I remember his interview with Ardal O Hanlon on his TV show (about the only thing from it I can remember) which was beyond cringe. He was like a teenage fanboy going on about Father Ted and got Ardal to reinact a scene from it, even though it was obvious from Ardal that he'd left that in his past and really didn't want to do it. But D'Arcy persisted and it wasn't even funny in the end. A truly wooden presenter both on his TV and radio show and not a loss to the schedule whatsoever.

Yes there is a bit of truth to that , I doubt a female presenter even if they were performing poorly would be sacked in such a humiliating way

I do not think he was sacked he walked away in a huff. its a reason if you are working on a contract at a high level its probably a good idea to have a intermediary between you and your employer.

To me it seems that he has a really narrow set of very typical Irish elder Gen X interests and doesn’t have any inclination to discuss anything outside that box. There’s nothing wrong with that but it’s not a great personality to present a daily variety show. As his interests got less current he became outdated very quickly. Worse he tended to get very patronising and impatient with people on to talk about a niche topic or something associated with a younger generation.

He must have been offered something else of course it would have been a demotion so looks like he felt insulted and stomped off ,whatever it's great news he has gone .

One of Ray's specialties is putting his foot in it. On his last show he went on about CO2 omissions to Hammond. This is not new, another example was telling Joe Duffy he is not working class anymore :-)

That probably says more about Ardal o Hanlon than ray darcy, he was always trying to distance himself from fr ted as if he had so much more going on but really he is only known for that role. All I hear him on now is voice overs on adverts

sounds exactly the type of stunt Alan Partridge might pull on Tony Hares head of the BBC in mid 90s. Smell my cheese you mother! Darcy probabaly caused a huge scene in the RTE canteen afterwards threating head office with a brambly apple turnover, "Jenny remove yourself from the theatre of conflict", throws her the keys to the VW Golf and tells her to heat it up and be ready for a hasty retreat

Agreed . Won't have to listen to him at a certain waiting room for appointment again . His waffle shows Rtes low standards .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 722 ✭✭✭bureau2009

He had numerous undeserved and lucrative chances on both TV and radio but didn't have the talent to make his mark.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,583 ✭✭✭Bellbottoms

I listened to the interview with Richard Hammond. It was awful, he spent a good bit of time being critical of cars both petrol and electric and repeating the same points to Hammond.

Hammond did engage with him a little bit. But instead of challenging any of Hammonds points or engaging with them. He just kept saying the same thing over and over.

Personally I think Hammond is a smug little cretein. That is willing to go along with whatever racist rubbish Clarkson would come out with in the name of "banter". But he came across as much more likeable then Ray in the segment.

Ray sounded like a ill informed know it all, that is only able to repeat the same two or three points he got off the internet and not actyally able to engage.

Anyone as inept as him would have been sacked from his job a long time ago - it's not that long ago he had dead air for something like 5 mins when the show started - how he managed to keep getting a new contract is beyond me, well maybe that was more down to an inept management team (evident at the hearings after the Tubridy scandal) who seemed to have no interest in what anybody was doing or knew what anyone was doing and was just a case of same old same old

Being rude live on air to the Nuacht team for daring to interrupt his carefully planned out shows. Gowl, a massive gowl is what he became."

    What's this?
