So Garcia pulls out of Irish open after not getting a pick. Surprised he could play with himself so far up his own backside to swing a club. Another player I don’t miss on tour

"I felt like I was so looking forward to being a part of that team, and so I felt like mentally, you know, mentally it was kind of tough"

The delusion from the LIV apologists on social media has clearly rubbed off on Sergio. Embarrassing from him. He had absolutely zero chance of getting on the team and everyone knew it. Except him seemingly.

Is there not a chance he was expecting to be a Vice Captain? Noren got one on Sunday I believe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,097 ✭✭✭Adiaga 2

I think that's more than likely what he's moaning about. But it's really bad form to throw the toys out and pull out of the Irish Open like that. You'd hope that it won't help his chances of ever getting the captaincy. Some of his behaviour over the years has been shocking - like a spoilt 5 year old. Embarrassing.

Why would he even think he deserves a pick on team or vice captain. He’s played 1 European tour even in 3 years. The time he withdrew from wentworth for no reason and appeared at a college game the next day but in his eyes the tour should welcome him with open arms

With each and every passing year Harrington winning at Carnoustie and Oakland Hills age like a fine wine.

    Just like his good self.

Now there is a man who should be a VC at Bethpage (T8 in 2002 USOpen).

2027 Adare…..Whos going to be captain?

Garcia has contributed more than most to the European team and has a very fair point on being a VC, just like Poults.

Agreed he does not handle himself the best.

LIV is irrelevant, Rahm broke that barrier

Sergio is toxic ..some teams need that but not sure Donald that type of dude who would want that on a team...not many do. But Seve had a real edge to him in these events and worked for him and was celebrated by Europe..

With LIV still so raw Sergio hadn't a hope, but the boundaries are being broken down and imagine he is making moves to be captain eventually when it is in Spain...he probably will be captain then.

Lad a complete spoilt child , and has been like that a long long time...not just a LIV thing...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,642 ✭✭✭newport2

Agreed he has in the past.

But I expect Donald made the decision based on would he help or hinder in being a VC on this team, and came to the latter. His decision, Garcia should respect that instead of whinging.

I remember Jim Furyk saying after a past Ryder Cup that they played against eleven gentlemen and Sergio.

Well Furyk would be perfectly correct….but i think he actually said "11 gentlemen and one little boy." - '02 Belfry RC.

Which is an even better burn.

    Context.

Seve after the 91' 'War by the Shore':

“The American team has 11 nice guys and Paul Azinger.”

He has contributed but his behaviour over the last decade has let him down. Spitting into cuts. Redesigning bunkers mid round. Fried chicken comments. Any golf club would have probably thrown him out but this person feels he has earned his place on the team

Wouldn’t have Padraig near the team. It’s not that players wouldn’t like him. So people are great players and just don’t make good head figures. You see it in other sports. I put Padraig in that group.

Molinari I think for 2027. Rose could have got it but this year will probably push it out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,467 ✭✭✭ronjo

I think it will be Rose in 2027 but I get the point about him possibly wanting to play.

Cant really see either Molinaris as the front man (not sure which you are referring to).

Frankie. Major winner and played a few of them. Usually meets the criteria

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,467 ✭✭✭ronjo

Not sure he would be charismatic enough for JP

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 716 ✭✭✭HanShotFirst

Basing your opinion about Harrington on what?

Everything I've seen and heard of Harrington he is as qualified as any alternative options.

I know certain golfers absolutely aren't suited to the role. Faldo, Clarke, Monty, Tiger, Stenson or Garcia. To name a few.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,891 ✭✭✭Trampas

Padraig was a bad captain when he had his turn. He doesn’t come across as a decisive leader. He’s always tinkering looking. Maybe JP will decide who be captain but we are struggling for names who’d be captain unless they change their mind on Liv.

I agree with you with the names on terrible captains. Woods would be a terrible captain as he never liked the Ryder cup never mind his record. It was never a goal of his no matter what he’d say in media. He’s major driven person

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 716 ✭✭✭HanShotFirst

I don't think that's a fair basis to critique him at all. He certainly wasn't a bad captain. He was captain at a difficult time. Perhaps the most difficult in modern sporting history? Up against one of the strongest US teams ever? And In America.

8 of the 12 players at Whistling Straits were in the OWGR Top 10! And the lowest ranked member of the team….Scottie Scheffler.

Harrington had 3 picks. Solid picks. I would say you could argue that he should have benched McIlroy and Casey sooner that he did. They played terribly on the Fri and Sat.

Harrington is very friendly with JP and he will be a at a minimum VC. On Merit.

    Harrington for President!

Ian Poulter's son Luke is playing in the Walker Cup this weekend. Like father, like son?

Donald hosted a team gathering on Tuesday evening ahead of the BMW PGA, including caddies and partners, where players trialled VR headsets to replicate the noise and atmosphere they could encounter at Bethpage Black.

Must have watched the Arsenal documentary where Arteta had crowd noise from anfield played on the training ground.

I hope they didn't play any VR golf as that ruined my golf swing.

Garcia has a few screws loose and his entitlement is second to none

Quite obvious it’s a message to Donald that he should be in New York

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,413 ✭✭✭✭prawnsambo

Unless he's capable of turning in a 58 on demand, I can't see how he wouldn't celebrate it on SM. Unless you're suggesting it's not real and he's made it up for the clicks and Luke Donald.

Who knows if it is real or not. But week of Ryder cup and he posts a score on social media after he was hoping to be involved. Just stinks of attention seeking and for Donald to see
