I didn't listen to it, was just going by what was said here. A draw game anyway so Co Board will be happy enough. Strange enough game. Cornafean didn't score until 20 minutes into the second half. A lot of turnovers and wild kicking. A very good 2 pointer by Shane Doyle towards the end to bring Cornafean back into it..

Great to see Caoimhin back. Still can't understand a time limit on transfers in a county (eg GMac hasn't played club since this time last year) but a transfer back from overseas is OK and done immediately. I get it's the rules, but it's stupid rules

Lacken relegated to Junior after losing to Drumgoon. Wow. Wouldn't have even thought of that even 2 years ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,454 ✭✭✭rrs

Big turnover of players and injuries. I think the year Arva went down to Junior ,Ciaran Brady was out that year with ACL. Johnny McCabe and a few were in Australia. Tristan Hoffman was focusing on soccer at the time.

Hoffman should be recalled to the County next year if he is interested.

I get that, Arva got a tough time with injury and lads away, yet were only 1 year at Senior and had been at Junior recently before that. Lacken in Senior a long time, very competitive for most of that with some good results. So so many away, just didn't expect a drop to Junior is all. And word is Thomas Galligan back next year and it'll be at the 3rd level

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,454 ✭✭✭rrs

In Senior a long time but had been hanging on the last few years with relegation play offs. Then went down last year. Intermediate is quite competitive. Most even of the 3 grades. Lavey would have been up in Senior a while, but didn't make the quarter finals of Intermediate this year.

Lacken very poor overall. Drumgoon very wasteful. Kicked some incredible wides. Galligan frees and 2 pointers papered over the cracks and looked to have them in the driving seat but James Smith injury with about 6 or 7 minutes to go left Drumgoon in complete control of the middle. Eventually found the scores to rescue the game. Something seriously wrong in Lacken club. Seems to be a lot of ill feeling inhouse about state of player development and the whole Southern Gaels thing only suiting the one club. Could be in Junior for a while.

Castlerahan with a big win over Ballinagh. Killygarry safe too but struggled with Laragh. No surprise on the final two.

Ah not really. Sure, 2023 when they got relegated but in 2022 they made the Senior quarters, beating Kingscourt in the group. So competitive just 3 years ago. Just shows how quickly the drop happens with player losses.

I definitely think the amalgamation did not work for them alright. Having a few each year is not representative as a club. A different amalgamation with more even numbers, or further down the divisions with their own if they have numbers would be better. More chance of players coming through that way that just a few with mostly others in the current setup even with the on field success that has been

Lacken were in a Relegation Semi last year against Ballymacugh in Intermediate. The last couple of years in Divison 1 they somehow stayed up,but went down this year. They did have a solid year in 22 but lot changed since then.

Lacken have been terrible for a few years now, considering how they have been conceeding the odd game in the league. They need to break away from that underage amalgamation and build up again themselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,514 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

The underage amalgamation has been ridiculous for them. I’ve said it before, why are clubs amalagamating and then entering two teams at different divisions in an age grade? The juvenile board should be stopping that.

Lacken and Gowna regularly had enough juvenile players to play at Division 3 level as a club themselves at U13/U14 but they amalgamate from U16 on. People will say it’s to play at a higher level but they usually just move up to Division 2.

And as for player numbers, you can use players from lower age grades from your own club and get dispensations to play with lower numbers if needs be. If anything, it’s often the making of a lad getting playing time at a higher age grade.

You reap what you sow as a club and the few Lacken lads who won juvenile Div 2 medals can enjoy playing junior football when they are adults now.

Talk from lacken people about winning ulster & all ireland juniors with lads back, junior will be a lot tougher than they think, several clubs have gone down and thought it’d be easy to bounce back and they end up stuck there

Gearoid McKiernan should give Swad a lift next year. They were poor today against kill, but he would be capable of scoring heavy with the new rules.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 Bduff1

Lacken a great fall…Drumgoon full value few good players, Good to see Conor Moynagh doing the business still always saw him as under appreciated.

Kill seemed full value you for their win, a club that does their most with limited resources and has seemed to produced some good young talent.

In terms of swad it’s only a matter of time with Mckiernan coming home

The goonies take great pride in the club and can always play better than the sun of their parts. Some good young players coming to with three young n county minor panel. Kill seem to come with a team every generation, two clubs in the one parish in junior semi finals ((Kill & Drung). Munchies & Kill a tasty final with scores to settle from league semi. Cornafaen coming with their usual hardiness but now mixed with young talent, tasty replay on the way😅

Does anyone know have Lacken ever been junior before?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 210 ✭✭etuzyuk

Heard a few of them say they were never Junior before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34 South of the Bann

Yesterdays junior semi final was a massive game considering the result of the Lacken Drumgoon game. Kill Swad and the Munchies may never get a better chance to win a junior championship than this year.

Gearoid coming back for Swad will be a big boost but if Lacken can get Thomas Galligan back it cancels it out straight away.

Belturbet be stronger next year too.

Thomas Galligan has been away 3 years. He should be able to dominate at Junior but who knows. I think McKiernan would be a bigger asset for Swad with his scoring power. Galligan isn't that accurate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 210 ✭✭etuzyuk

    T. Galligan will be a big asset. James Galligan should be back too. Young Crowe might develop into a good footballer if he can put his injury woes behind him. But I didn't see much up front to be waltzing through junior never mind talk of Ulsters and AIs. Maybe R. Galligan will tog out again as his shooting and frees are great but he'd want to lose a few pound and get a bit of mobility back. Was very static and absolutely nobody working off him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,454 ✭✭✭rrs

Raymonds brother Killian would be a good forward. He will probaly be back too. A few other younger forwards like Donal Finnegan or could possibly be back. Lack of pace in the Lacken team

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,454 ✭✭✭rrs

Eamon O Reilly the former Shannon Gaels player is managing Ballyboden this year. He is doing well enough, won the League beating Ballymun in the final, and play Cuala in championship semis. Maybe a future Cavan manager.

Has Bull decided who will get the U20 job?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34 South of the Bann

Former Redhills player Patrick Leddy in Mayo semi final with Crossmolina also; lining out at full forward, won intermediate All Ireland last year.

Former Shannon Gaels footballer Niall Walsh in Galway SFC Quarter final with Moycullen too.

Any other Cavan players doing well outside the county?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,454 ✭✭✭rrs

Not that I know of. Ciaran McDonalds son Kobe is a class act for Crossmolina. Still 17.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,514 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Ya don’t say. Are there any other unknown talents that you’ve unearthed from the depths of obscurity?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,454 ✭✭✭rrs

Whats the smart ass reply for? Just saying he's a very good player. Doing well in his first year in Senior, after promise at minor. Does everything need your approval on here ?

Calm down there lad. It was a bit of sarcasm - the lowest form of wit. The papers and online sites have been referencing that lad since he was 14 or 15.
