Some do. Most have transfers during the season that are outlined on the transfer portal on the GAA website. So there must be some system that allows it

Strong wins for Killinkere & Cornafean in the intermediate yesterday. It really looks like it is Cuchulainns to lose but they didn’t overly impress on Friday night. They seem incapable of killing off teams.

Cavell Keoghan going off was a blow for Denn. Cucullains pushed on in the last 15 minutes but not convincing. Cornafean have a few good forwards, Trainor, Browne and Dean Kilkenny. Cootehill were very laboured and didn't push on with the wind in the second half. Killinkere were poor until the goal by Fitzimmons. He done well to keep it in play and finished it off. Ballymachugh only got 1 score in the second half against the wind.

Jesus Ramor were very poor today, first game lost between league amd championship this year though. I would hope they were keeping the powder dry. Gowna looked very good though, solid at the back as very quick on the break when it mattered.

    Big improvement required in Virgina

Kingscourt going well under the radar. A draw against Crosserlough without Morris. Killygarry under perform again in championship.

Ramor get a well timed and low consequence kick up the whole. I don't deny Gowna looked solid all around the park but Ramor never got out of 3rd gear IMO. Definitely expected the 'lough to dispatch Kingscourt so a good result for them. Solid last quarter from the Gaels but K'garry are weak sauce so hard to tell where they're at without McKiernan. They'll still probably contest a semi final. Not sure if any of other games are worth commenting on tbh. Arva notch another win, Mullahoran dispatched Ballyhaise and Ballinagh had a big comeback over Laragh who started strong. I hope I'm wrong but very hard to see past Gowna and the Lough contesting the final.

Nathan De Kleer was very impressive for Munterconnaght at midfield but ended up getting a red, second yellow. He is only 18 so probaly a bit of inexperience. A player who could feature with the County over the next few years. Talented angler too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭large_palette

He must be 6'5 or 6'6. He's a fairly easy going lad off the field so surprised he has that edge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭rrs

Yeah he is a big fella. Ryan Nwaneri is a rangy player too. Both very athletic. Think Nwaneri quit football 2 years ago, but back now which is an addition for them.

They have handy semi anyway playing a team they beat by 19 points two weeks ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 272 ✭✭tazman06

Today was a bit of a phoney war for the Top 6 who were guaranteed to get through. Bar getting Top 2 to get 7th and 8th in quarters not really anything much to play for, unless minutes into lads, resting others, or trying to play into form. So have to take huge pinch of salt with some results, on how much some are trying. An indictment of this system which seems to have run its course. Straight to quarters next week is odd, the other Champs had more break weeks by this point. Will be 5 games in 6 weeks. We'll see where teams really are at by then. Ramor won't be as bad again

The Cavan Senior champions don't play in Ulster until weekend of November 8/9th. They seem to be rushing it off and then a long break for Ulster. Too long is no good either as a team loses momentum.

It's really strange how they're wanting to run it off so quick like that after it started later than the other 2 Championships. I was sure they'd have another break week built in after group stage, and I planned being away next weekend. Raging

Fionntan O’Reilly flying tonight for the Bridge, hopefully McCabe introduces some fresh faces in the forward line.

Quarter finals fixtures are out. Crosserlough and Arva are out 5 days after the last group game which seems like madness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,498 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

It’s very hard to take anything from those games. What sort of team had Ramor out? A Laragh man told me the most worrying thing was Ramor played only half their team against them the week before.

Finbarr O’Reilly is working with the Pats McCrory team. Gary O’Rourke is teaching in there (dunno how long) and is working with the goalkeepers who include McConnell from the minors.

That is madness alright, they had quarter finals on the Friday before but i think there was always the week break before so much fairer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 272 ✭✭tazman06

And like we had the game weeks. The IFC and JFC started 2 weeks before SFC, and had their quarters one week before SFC quarters. No need for that. Start SFC a week earlier, have this weekend just past as your break weekend, let the IFC and JFC quarters breathe on their own weekend. Fixtures committee messed this one up

Ramor had full team out and got nearly a half of football into Matthew Smith - he will be a massive addition at the business end. They were disappointing but all credit to Gowna, they were really good yesterday and regardless of what the match meant they laid down a huge marker for the rest of the championship.

    Next week

Gowna to have way too much for an improving Gaels

Crosserlough to beat Arva by close to 20 points. The 5 day turn around really hinders a team with less depth.

Ramor to bounce back and see off Mullahoran. Mullahoran have improved and usually give Ramor a tough game, however I think we'll see a big reaction in Ramor and could run out easy enough winners this time.

Kingscourt to deal with Ballyhaise in a similar fashion to how they met earlier. Ballyhaise will be happy enough with their year considering they have lost 2 of their main players.

Another strange outcome is that the 3 of the 4 are repeat parings.

That's not a strange outcome at all, it's showing up the system to be a poor one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,134 ✭✭✭Akabusi

Okay strange was the wrong description, yes poor outcome might be a better way to put it. There is an argument to also having the quarter finals as an open draw with the caveat that you don't play a team you already met in the Group games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,240 ✭✭✭piplip87

Ramor had possibly the strongest lineup available out. They just looked not up for it at all. Possibly the two handy games before hand hasn't helped and maybe one eye on next weekend. I would hope they were holding something back for next weekend.

Also Gowna had a point to prove after last years game.

Still I fancy Kingscourt to win it and if they rumours doing the rounds about Falkner heading on his travels next year are true would be great to see him go out with a SFC medal..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 272 ✭✭tazman06

Yeah I'd agree with that. The fact we seed the quarters based on only playing 4 of the other 11 teams is really strange. Suppose you have to make it worth something to ensure all R4 group games have something to play for

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,498 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

They are not rumours. People from Kingscourt told me at the game yesterday he’s definitely going. It’s no secret.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭TheGadfly

That's interesting. What does he fish for?

Endless arguments on the internet about Cavan GAA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭rrs

Mark McHugh confirmed as the new Westmeath manager. I see the 2 Tyrone men that are with Crosserlough are in the backroom team

    Assistant Manager/Selector – Emmet McDonnell (Coralstown Kinnegad)Head Coach/Selector – Ryan Daly (Tyrone)Coach – Stephen “Archie” Beattie (Tyrone)

One thing I've noticed from listening to the different interviews with managers post game on WAC is the amount of outside men.

See below Senior teams in quarter finals.

    1. Gowna - Monaghan
    2. Mullahoran - Monaghan??
    3. Crosserlough - Tyrone
    4. Ramor United - Tyrone
    5. Cavan Gaels - Armagh
    6. Ballyhaise - Derry
    7. Kingscourt - Louth?
    8. Arva - local men previously Longford men earlier in year
