Jeremy Bowen of the Beeb - he knows you know…

This attack is a move which many thought Israel wouldn't make.

Qatar has tried to carve out a position of the Switzerland of the Middle East. In the last few years, it has been the centre of diplomacy regarding the war in Gaza.

Today’s strike is Israel's answer to any suggestion that its latest offensive in Gaza was designed to put Hamas under pressure to accept a deal to get the hostages back quickly.

Now, it's clear that's not the case.

Israel is going full steam ahead on all fronts.

It certainly shows that Israel has given up on talks.

For Israel, this is not just a war on Gaza - it's a war on Hamas wherever they are.

In the last couple of years, it has been the conventional wisdom that Israelis would not target Hamas in Qatar, over fears that would cripple the diplomatic process, which nations like the US are behind.

But if Trump gave the green light to this, the US president is also saying his famous deal-making has not worked.

Israel's justification is a "total victory" over Hamas.

Also what about the surveillance flights? Do you remember when David Lammy stood up in Parliament and mentioned Britain was suspending trade agreement talks with Israel , well within days the talk were back on. Uk defense officials and their Israeli counterparts are continuing to meet in whitehall. The public condemnation is all choregraphed… the Israeli go through the motions of outrage but likely have been given assurances its business as usual behind the scenes

I could be wrong though, Sir Kier any moment now may condemn the strike on Qatar by calling it a blatant act of aggression by Israel. Oh look…a flying pig!

I didn't read past the first bit - that seems to be more important. Unless you pointed the last bit out because the first bit doesn't bolster your case?

And it would be odd for anyone to publish a headline that renders the entire article false. No?

Since September 2024, 8,630 items were exported under the category “bombs, grenades, torpedoes, mines, missiles and similar munitions of war

you obviously don’t read the newspapers then. Never heard of the term click bait?

Europe is buying shed loads of equipment that has Israeli tech and that tech needs components.

They only do this because the US has its back.

This is humiliating for the US but they’ll try and pretend it isn’t. By bombing the territory of a country that was key to negotiations and a US ally Netanyahu has signalled he doesn’t want peace.

The US is setting up attacks for Israel. It was the same when the US murdered Solemani. Lure people to meetings then attack. US are animals just like Israel.

How does "click bait" work with a newspaper? I just turn the pages - nothing to click? Seems it's you who doesn't read newspapers?

However, the point being made by the other poster is that UK is selling weapons to Israel. The article clearly states it - you even posted it. I don't think missiles, torpedoes etc are components? Unless you're a weapons expert and you're about to enlighten me?

But you appear to be trying to change the subject altogether to EU is buying stuff?

You're all over the place. If you were clearer, it would be helpful.

it is a trade classification. The classification is as I posted. Parts for bombs, even an electrical component or a label, have to be shipped under that category. It also has to include the destination and the end user.
Airbus is using Elbit equipment all over their military aircraft at the moment (there is even some in those CASAs you see flying over the west coast and the new helicopters the air corp are buying). Components for those systems will come from all over.
the UK does not supply arms to the IDF.

These days the US and Israel are becoming isolated from friendly nations. Neither can be trusted. Good news for Xi and Putin.

The people targeted in the territory of an American ally were discussing the American peace proposal. You can’t get much more blatant than that.

A member of the Qatari security forces was murdered. Qatar lets America rule the roost over its airspace, America let 15 Israeli jets take part in a bombing of Qatar. Sends to the message open your country to America at your own peril. America’s standing as a dependable ally is in the s hitter.

Donnie image of himself as the dependable dealmaker is being destroyed by Bibi.

Of course he is too full of himself ever to admit it even if he could see it.

Oh yeah definitely, any living hostages are completely screwed now

I doubt there are many of them though

Israel has attacked Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Yemen and now Qatar in the last 12 months or so

The highest level of shame on everyone who claims they are even in the slightest bit eager for peace.

Hamas were founded put of Israel's persecution of the Palestinian people all Israel is doing, and has been doing is justifying more of them.

You're incredibly naive if you think the US didn't sanction this. Trump has no more interest in peace than Netenyahu does

Out of curiosity - do you believe the Palestinians just want Gaza and the West Bank??

If they had, there'd have been peace decades ago.

Fcuk Hamas and fcuk their so called "negotiating" team.

These people have shown no inclination to lay down their weapons and end the war. Until that happens, Israel has every right to hunt each and every one of them down.

So do you genuinely not know that the NYT warned in advance of the ethical problems of using a child with congenital disease in a piece about alleged malnutrition in Gaza - and they went ahead and did it anyway?

And then had to admit that Mohammed al-Mutawaaq had a muscular wasting disease - and a healthy weight mother and siblings. Did she just pick one child to let starve?

And here's the thing - many of those supposedly starving children used to get FREE medical care IN ISRAEL, right up until October 2023.

Kind of a coincidence that they were no longer able to go to Israel after that? Not Hamas' fault at all, according to you.

But you know, if EVERY time the media focuses on a child in Gaza, it turns out that that child has a serious underlying illness, do you know what the odds are?

At some point you have to accept that you're being played by Hamas.

Unless of course you're complicit in the "playing".

And there were no comparable cases of starving children in the Jewish ghettoes with fat parents. Didn't happen. Because that's what starving means.

Hamas is nothing more than a suitable bogeyman for the genocidal Israeli leadership to justify their actions. That is indisputable.

Israel has attacked 7 countries throughout this conflict, do they have every right to respond?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,943 ✭✭✭Odhinn

…great thinking that. Dodges reality, but there ye go.

How do ye negotiate for peace when your negotiators are targeted for death?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,015 ✭✭✭✭volchitsa

    And are you?

I gave you the name of the child who was made the poster child of the supposed starvation in the NYT - they were warned by their own staff that it was untrue, and they had to correct it. And RTE and the Irish media correct that?

I'll bet their correction, if there was one at all, was even smaller than the NYT's.

So if these children are all starving from lack of food, why do the western media always seem to photograph ones that are in reality seriously ill from underlying genetic illnesses or cancer?

    What are the odds?

So in response to an attack that targeted Israeli civilians, including babies and children, and an ongoing hostage situation where the captives have STILL not been allowed to see the so-called humanitarian organisations such as the Red Cross, but have been filmed literally being forced to dig their own graves, you think that Israel should not only not attack the zone where the attacks were launched from, but is not even justified in attacking the men who ordered that attack?

So what do you think Israel would have been entitled to do in response to Oct 7? Apologise for existing? Wait for the next attack, as promised at the time by Hamas?

A new low for Israel. Bombing peace negotiators in Qatar. Breaches international law and diplomatic norms.

Trump condemns Israel’s bombing of Qatar

However there were reports Israel claimed to have informed the US before hand.
