Yeah I was with Laya when I got my first dose from myBMI. Submitted the consultation but got told to sod off.

it appears MyBMI won’t allow you to become their customer unless you are still over a BMI of 30, notwithstanding you may have had a successful journey on MJ already. I got an email from them saying as much this afternoon. I’ve sent another email pushing back but I don’t hold out much hope.

Still, it might be good for peeps who are starting or near the start of their journey.

LastApache. is the mountjaro easier to take, less side effects than Ozempic? I think you were on Ozempic previously and had issues?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭LastApacheInjun

Honestly I’ve had the same amount of side effects with both, but the side effects were pretty mild for me.

Anecdotally, from reading mumsnet and Reddit pages, it does seem that people have less side effects from Mounjaro.

Not sure if it makes any difference but I absolutely wasn't thrilled by taking MJ in my belly vs thigh (even with a 0.23 4mm needle).

I also ran the front thigh approach by 2 GPS and nobody batted an eye, however, pharmacist was heavily against it due to the closeness of the muscle.

Btw just as a disclaimer this is not a medical advice, do your own research and don't rely on my information 😅 However, these were my experiences with the medicine, gps and pharmacists.

Speaking of which: Did anyone make any comparisons of the MJ 5mg price in IE between the pharmacies?

Is a 23G needle not very thick? My pharmacy gave me 31G 4mm needles, and I don't feel them going in at all. Also, you can take MJ in the thigh if you want, it's just the belly fat is most effective. Have a look here at Dr. Kevin Joseph's video on injection sites.

As for prices of 5mg, I got a few the week before last. These are in Cork, but might be around the country.

    Life Pharmacy €250
    McCabe's €350
    Boots €330
    Discount Chemist €300

I'd be phoning around again though, as I reckon the lad in Life was reading their purchase price or something, and I rang Discount on Monday last, and they said their 15mg is €584. I was previously told it was €420, so I don't know were/are they getting their stock from the UK and they've gone up in price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭Fwarder

    0.23mm needle is 32G 😅

Jesus, the price difference 🤯 My next one is due soon enough, so I'd say i'll do the same with ringing around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,366 ✭✭✭Soarer

Ah ok, didn’t know that about the needle. Every day’s a school day.
I just called into the Discount Chemist there, and they told me their pricing is the same. So it’s €300 for the 5.0mg, and €420 for every dose above that. So the obvious thing to do is get the highest dose your GP will prescribe and microdose the hell out of it.

Just purchased 7.5mg of Mounjaro on Mybmi.ie. in last hour. Consult was still €109 and waiting on a link to pay for the Monjaro via their Pharmacy. Appears that it'll cost €143.99 so no change since last month. Happy with that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭Fwarder

Yeah, microdosing the living crap out of it seems to be the way

@Bannerman1969 yeah, by the looks of it they'll increase the "consultation price", not the "medicine price".

All prices gone up today with mymbi

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 158 ✭✭Bannerman1969

Just purchased 7.5mg in last 5 mins via payment link. €143.99 for medication and €109 consultation fee 2 hrs ago so @Donohoe10 you are incorrect from my very recent experience. Consultation fee has yet to increase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭glen123

so does anyone know with myBMI, if you are already on 5mg via your own GP prescription, will they start you on 7.5mg or do you need to start from scratch from 2.5?

P.S.- will answer my own question as I found the answer in FB group. You can start with them on higher dose if you show them a copy of the previous prescription for lower dose.

you still need to be over BMI 30 for them to take you on as a new patient though.

all their current customers have got an email today saying prices were going up from today. So if you just snuck under the lin Bannerman, well done!

I had awful side effects on Ozempic. I'm on trulicity now with no bother. It's doing a great job on diabetes but no benefit on weight loss. My wife just started on Ozempic for weight loss, hence the question.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭LastApacheInjun

Hey Farmerval. Was cost the consideration when choosing Ozempic over Mounjaro?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 Donohoe10

you must have bought at the right time because at 1pm yesterday an email was sent out and a whatsapp was put by a MYBMI employee in the whatsapp group. It went up yesterday and the referrals are now €40 instead of €20

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 158 ✭✭Bannerman1969

Maybe that's it - I started my online conulstation at 11.30am so that may be it. Ordered after 1pm though. Got lucky for once. Thanks

Hey, you can read my experience here (page 11 of this thread :) ):

My experience with mybmi.ie was mostly positive, though it could’ve been a tad better. First, I read about 200 posts to make sure it wasn’t some dodgy black-market scam (true story! 😄). I signed up for the consultation using a referral link from a forum member, which gave me €40 off (shameless plug: 75851Filip20free code or LINK).

The consultation was a bit of a mixed bag. They give you loads of info about what Mounjaro and Wegovy are and aren’t—dos and don’ts, side effects, the lot. But it’s all online, so you never see anyone face-to-face. You enter your height, weight, and waist circumference, but unlike here in Ireland (where your GP or pharmacy remeasures you), it’s a trust system—nobody checks. You also need to upload two photos of yourself holding A4 paper with today’s date written on it (almost kidnapping-style photos, haha!). I think they ask for ID too, but I can’t quite remember.

They ask which medication you’d prefer, Wegovy or Mounjaro. I’d heard Mounjaro was more potent for weight loss and cheaper at the time, so I went with that. After uploading everything and paying for the consultation, they check if your BMI is 30+ or, if lower, whether you’ve got other health conditions to justify the injections from a medical perspective. My approval came through in less than a day, and I got a link to order my first 2.5mg Mounjaro injection.

Ordering and paying for the injection is simple—you get a email with the payment link, just pay, and you’re sorted. It arrived the next morning in an extremely well-packaged, chilled cardboard box—DPD delivered it, and truly no expense was spared on the packaging! Since it’s a medical delivery, you have to be home to sign for it.

I’m now on my second injection, and reordering was just as smooth, so no issues there either.

Overall, my experience with mybmi.ie has been great, but I do miss the personal feedback you’d get from a local GP. Just in case, I do keep my GP in the loop and I plan to be getting regular blood tests done to make sure my body’s tolerating the medication well.

By the way, mybmi sends weekly emails with tips and tricks, which I actually find useful. Since this isn’t like grabbing paracetamol at Aldi, I’d recommend reading all the emails and documents they send to get your head around the treatment (if you’re approved).

If you’ve got questions that might not be for the forum, feel free to PM me about my experience. I can’t tell you what’s right or wrong for you, but I can share how it’s been for me. This forum and the community on this thread are brilliant for support—big kudos to all of you!

unfortunately laya doesn't recognize mybmi folks so no chance of Claiming for this service except for (hopefully) 20% tax.

I sent them an email about it, attached my receipt and unfortunately no luck.

About 8 weeks on Ozempic now. On the .5 dose of Ozempic and having really bad side effects, really bad nausea and eggy burps regardless of what I eat.

Is there a time the side effects are worse, wondering to keep trying to push through, go down to maybe .333 or abandon it altogether at this stage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭Fwarder

I would probably go back to the folks who prescribed it to me 🤔

Or you might try perhaps injecting into thigh instead of abdomen?

I'm also obese (18 st 7) but I have lost 2.5 stone this year. I actually lost 8 stone some years ago but that was because I was very ill with gallstones and didn't want to eat anything because when I ate something, it caused terrible pain and I couldn't sleep. The doctor has warned me I am pre-diabetic. I had an operation some years ago to remove my gallbladder that resolved it, and then I gained weight. I switched to a plant based diet this year, but some of those are high calorie aswell but they seem safer for pre-diabetics. A doctor at my GP clinic recommended the "Fit Foods" brand. I am male and 45. I have struggled with my weight my whole life. The last time I wasn't overweight was in 2013 and that was after months of intermittent fasting which sometimes made me lightheaded with headaches. In 2021 my gallstones deterred me from eating nearly anything and I lost 8 stone. I was still 1.5 stone overweight though. The gallstone pain would come and go and unfortunately, when it stopped for a long period, I would return to the junk food. I haven't eaten a single jelly sweet this year, except once and they were sugar-free ones. I tend to scrutinise ingredients to avoid sugar.

Are you on the GP1 medications Ozymandius? Apologies if you have previously posted.

if you are, have you found that it’s helped with the junk food? I’ve found Ozempic and MJ enormously helpful in helping break habit triggers.

    Well.

6 weeks to the day since I took my first job, and so far so good.

Still no major side effects. Get dry mouth a bit, but that's easily remedied.

Weight loss has definitely tapered off in the last couple of weeks, but still going in the right direction. Down 23.5lbs in the 6 weeks to date and broke below the massive mental block of 200lbs on the scales the other day. Best thing is, not only is it staying below it, but it's still trending downwards (197.6lbs today).

I mentioned a couple of pages back that I went up north prior to the increases to max out my script. In the fridge at the minute I've half a 5 pen and full 7.5, 10, 12.5 and 15mg pens. I'd like to think I'll get nowhere near those bigger doses (not even sure if I'll increase to 7.5 in a couple of weeks), so I'll be counting the clicks on those bad boys.

As it stands, between pens, needles, syringes, fuel, tolls, basically every penny I've put into buying these 6 pens, I'm in for €1516.37. That's the total I'll be spending as I have more than enough syringes and needles to see me through my journey. That's obviously a decent chunk of change, but when I see local prices of the higher doses, I'm not doing too bad. With the little spreadsheet I've made, my 7 shots so far have cost me €216.62 each. That'll obviously come down with each shot taken.

I'm no longer the fatest guy in work. I've dropped below 2 other lads. Best thing is, people are noticing and asking me about it. I've not told them about the jabs (think it's embarrassing for some reason), so I'm telling them I'm doing OMAD, which isn't a lie really. We use in work, and on more than one occassion someone would come over to me with a 10kg weight and say "you've lost more weight than this!". It's all well and good looking at the scales and seeing the number go down, but when you actually feel the weight loss in your hands, you wonder how you were walking around carrying that for so long.

Before I started this, my life revolved around food. I could start the day thinking "right, I'll fast all day today now to give myself a good start for the week, and start keto tomorrow", or something along those lines. Around midday then, for no reason, I'd think of fish and chips, or chocolate and icecream, and that thought would stay in my head all day until everyone was gone to bed and I'd go buy what I was looking for. Now, if something like that pops into my head (rare), it pops straight out again. I still have chocolate and icecream in the fridge. But whereas before I'd eat a full tub and a big bag of Giant Buttons in one sitting (along with a share bag of crisps!), I can now go to the fridge and have half a dozen buttons and leave the rest behind. Haven't even bought crisps since I've started!

That's after turning into a ramble that I wasn't expecting. The TL;DR version is, it's amazing stuff!

Well done, hopefully you'll feel comfortable opening up at some point to the other heavy guys at work about your secret tool, assuming they have a genuine interest in losing their excess weight. But seriously, if all goes well for you and you taper off successfully, it might be nice up to pay it forward and help others transform their lives.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,366 ✭✭✭Soarer

    Thanks very much.

Ah yeah, I'll let the veil slip eventually. Like @Padraig Mor though, the MJ is allowing me to use intermittent fasting or OMAD more effectively. Found out the other week that my sister has been on it since May. She'd have more to lose than me, and has obviously been on it for a lot longer than me. But I've lost more than her already, and she says that's purely down to her eating. She still eats regularly, just smaller portions. I could easily go the day without eating, something that I could do sporadically before. But this stuff kills my thoughts/cravings for food, which means my not eating is infinitely easier for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭Fwarder

What dose are you currently using?

I tried doing OMAD as well, but then I spaced it out and added ham/tuna/chicken breasts to keep the proteins on more than 1g/1kg.

    Currently, I’m averaging 1kg a week (of a loss).
