Who knows. He was very slow with the cunha sub, almost like there was no plan in place.

Re zirkzee. To me he is just too slow and won't occupy the box.

Hopefully sesko will cos a lot of good balls came into the box, especially early on

I know, you know and he knows players dont just get left on the pitch injured,he either didnt tell them he was injured or he told them he ran it off!

And I dont think he was slow with the sub,im going to guess that Zirkzee needed a quick warm up or stretch before being thrown on!!

Zirksee could do with a furnace to warm up for some games. A neat footballer but that's about it imo.

I wrote zirkzee off when he came into team, then he start showing a lovely bit of form, before he got injured. When he gets going, he’s a really tidy player.

Thought zirkzee was very poor when he came on but definitely grew into the game. A role there for him for sure, but just don't think he will ever nail himself down as a starter. Will be better coming on when teams tire and game starts to open up a bit.

Definitely feels like there is a hammering coming for some team at some stage if we keep creating all these chances.

100% agree on needing that athletic CM. I think we'd get away with a poor keeper if it meant priortising a CM. It could transform the team having someone like a Baleba but a new keeper could come in and still be likely to have a few clangers here and there. Mainoo did ok when he came on but I can see why he isn't starting. He looks even slower than Casemiro when he is running which is surprising for someone so young.

He's a decent footballer but won't score many goals.

I think he'd be useful to close out games, hold onto the ball.

That nice feeling of not having a loss hang over for the International break!

I feel bad for the lad doing 5 game winning streak. That could be years

2 in a row would be start. Cos if we can't do that he ain't the man for the job

I like Amorim and want him to succeed but I don't get why he says some of the things he says publically like saying he needs Cunha and Mount really really badly to compete.

For sure it may be true but morale of some of the other guys who don't start must go down when he says such things.

He literally couldn't hold the ball for 2 seconds today.

    It was an awful performance.

He's not an impact player coming off the bench and he's not good enough to start. A real nothing player.

He's a good footballer but not a particularly good player if that makes sense.

Did he mean it more in the sense we need them to compete for spots in the starting XI with other players? He is always talking about the importance of competition for places.

Just home from a long long day out, any links for extended highlights? Just missed MOTD.

MOTD should be on the bbc player if you want to catch it.

Whatever hope we had of bringing in a CDM is pretty much zero at this stage if imagine. Zero links and 2 days remaining. In typical fashion we'll spend the remaining days to finalise Lammens

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,233 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Ornstein reporting that the Lammens deal isn't as close as others have claimed. Also rumours that Villa are interested in him.

I'm not at all optimistic for any further inbound transfers.

If Villa are moving for Lammens I wonder does that open the door for us to go for Martinez?

If we are stuck with both keepers, I am actually happier with Altay starting tbh. Never thought I would say that.

Absolutely no point buying Lammens unless he's good enough to be our number one and will be given the opportunity.

Martinez to United on loan with obligation to buy and Lammens to Villa is my prediction.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,143 ✭✭✭markc91

Fab reporting we've again gone to Villa over Martinez.

Just on the Sesko thing, we all remember when Rasmus came in he was thrown into the deep end and started almost every game after the cameo against Arsenal. Im just wondering are they purposely bedding him in and keeping him somewhat out of the limelight(like taking the 10th pen and not expecting it to get that far)

I think he will probably be benched for City and Chelsea and then start to go on a run for the Brentford & Sunderland games after.

If we are planning a random left-field deadline day loan I wouldn't mind having a punt at taking Adama Traore from Fulham.

Seems they are going for 2 wingers which would push him down their pecking order.

Always thought he'd be a great wing back. No one should be his size and that fast. He'd offer more than Dalot and think WB would suit him more than it is Amad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,011 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

Traore is shocking going forward and doesnt offer much defensively. Hes strong and quick, foot balling wise he'd be a downgrade imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 582 ✭✭✭Seattle

People are overthinking the Sesko situation.

The situation is actually fairly straightforward. Cuhna, Mount and Mbuemo looked very dangerous and threatening v Arsenal and the opening 30 mins v Fulham. There were times when it felt like it has the potential to be a very high level attack, and that was seen yesterday in the first half again.

Why would RA have been rushing to take one of them out and start Sesko? Especially when Sesko has been off the pace in his minutes so far?

There's an irrational impatience among our fan base over this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,318 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

The impatience is that signing needed to hit the ground running and the scouts should have been able to identify that, taking 6 or 12 months to settle in isn't an option, especially when we've sold our only other striker.

He's potentially our only 9 at the club one Rasmus goes, he's played 60 odd games and got 27 goals for Leipzig over last 2 seasons. We need goals , team needs a target man , it's hardly a stretch, our "impatience". O,G. is our current top scorer ! We all pray he's going to be a goal scorer/ provider as we haven't had one for yonks ,it feels. 🤞🤞🤞

Which CF did Liverpool have last year that was prolific? Answer: none

Which CF did City have between 2020 and 2023 that was prolific? Answer: none

Were those teams able to get top 4? Yep. They were even able to win the league.

Also Arsenal have been very high level over the last 3 years without a prolific CF. Comfortably a CL team, unlucky not to win the league at least once and very competitive in the knockout stages of the CL.

Lesson: you don't need to be desperate for a prolific CF if you can generate enough goals from elsewhere in your team.

The performances from Cunha, Mbuemo and Mount in the opening games have been extremely promising and they have the potential to rack up plenty of goals. Only 3 games in but already one of the highest xGs in the league, which is a stark contrast to the previous two seasons.
