If the flight was cancelled you are entitled to the cost of the flight back.

They had a contract with you to get you from A to B which they did not fulfil. You're definitely entitled to a refund.

I presume your correspondence has not yet been in writing. I think that's your next step.

When taking a laptop through security with Ryanair, does it have to be turned on or off?

Flying from Knock to London in a few days for about 2 weeks. My laptop has a problem, I live in a remote area and I'm sure I can find an expert in London. Only trouble is, the problem is such that any non-expert turning it on just once more could make the problem much more difficult to fix (long story, but it's not a virus).

So could I be sure of not having to turn it on, being asked to, or a security person doing it, en route? (If not, I won't risk it).

Ryanair won't have any checks on the laptop, it will be airport security if they want to inspect it. I've never had to power mine up but I have had it swabbed for I assume drugs/explosives in Ireland, UK and Spain going through security.

Hi all, booked a flight back in January using the family plus rate. Paid half then and half due in May.

I foolishly checked the same flight today and it is considerably cheaper! I assume Ryanair will not entertain any partial refund?!

what’s the thoughts of Boardsies on the new Ryanair scam of paying €75 for a ‘Prime’ membership. ????

looks like the usual race to the bottom….. before long you won’t be able to even book a seat without a membership number!!! You heard it here first!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 121 ✭✭pacman114

Yes you are correct. However, i've since discovered…with Family Plus there is an option to not pay the 2nd installment. Ryanair then cancel your booking and "refund" the first installment payment to your Ryanair wallet. Apparently you cannot widthdraw this to a payment card but can use it to book another flight withing 36 months. The 2nd installment is due 40 days before your flight.

Has anyone here done this? I wonder if you cannot withdraw to a payment card or do they just say that?!

They will probably start quoting their fares at this new artificially low rate, similar to Wizz air.

The would consider it store credit. Frankly, you are lucky getting credit as they normally do not do refunds.

I see Ryanair have changed their fare selection page on the App so that the "Basic" fare is the last fare to choose. Rather than having all the fares on 1 page, you now have to scroll over 3 pages to find it. The only possible reason for this is to try to reduce the chance that customers will select it.

18:20 flights to Lanzarote on Saturdays for the last few weeks are having a delayed departure time from Dublin between 90 & 110 minutes later from scheduled time. Anyone any idea why this is happening.

Over the 6 weeks or so, every few days I have to re-sign into the Ryanair App. This never used to happen. Is it just me?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,170 ✭✭✭chasm

I had to sign in a few times in one day about 2 weeks ago, forgot my password the second time so had to go in via my browser instead!

You're right — if your companion is not traveling with a passport, and instead using a driving licence as ID (which is only accepted on certain domestic routes), you should tick the “NOT an EU/EEA Passport” box.

However, do note that Ryanair usually requires a valid passport for international travel, even within the UK or EU. A driving licence is typically not accepted for international flights, only for domestic flights within Ireland or the UK (and even that depends on the route).

Best to double-check with Ryanair’s latest ID requirements to avoid any surprises at check-in. ✈️

your spot on, thought of that when it first came out. Eventually you’ll have almost no choice but to have the “membership” and get feck all for it.

Brilliant black mirror episode in the latest series, it’s the one with Chris O Dowd, features a fictional medical product called “Rivermind” which brilliantly sums up the cynicism of the subscription model perfectly

It has been reported in today's Sunday Times that Ryanair staff who catch any passengers trying to travel with over sized cabin luggage ARE paid bonuses. Think most of us knew that, despite what their chief marketing officer claimed recently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 504 ✭✭✭Rock Steady Edy

So they get €1.50 for each oversized bag they catch which the customer gets charged €75.; That's 2%, for really annoying each passenger they get. I hope it would have to be a blatant oversize that impacted other passengers ability to put booked baggage on board or the ability to depart promptly for most to risk the grief they would get from passengers for such a nominal payment.

You probably only need to offer them €1.50, as Ryanair's €1.50 commission will be taxable! 😁

Same comment in the letters page of today's Irish Times apparently...

Ryanair says that 99.9% of passengers comply with baggage rules. That equates to 1 passenger in every 1000 flouting them, ie 1 person in every 5 planeloads. When Ryanair staff do start checking the size of bags, they seem to think the 0.1% are all on the same plane! 😁

How does Mick back this up? "Over the next 10 years, I believe oil prices will fall materially," he added.

I see everyone will have to use the Ryanair app now, I've always printed my boarding pass, so now I have to download the bloody app.

    Above is debated extensively here...

Have to say, I'm feeling very lucky. Just received a mail from Ryanair that I'm receiving early access to cyber week deals and it's "just for me". Out of all their millions of customers, it's me that's been chosen to receive it. Not only that but, disappointingly, I've already made my Christmas travel plans with a competitor, so it's going to go completely to waste. I suppose with this kind of luck, I should play the lottery this week...
