Got the latest QPR beta for Android 16 this morning. The new material UI is lovely. Tighter notifications, more haptics, updated UI elements and extra animations. It's the biggest change to the UI in a long time…

Yeah I downloaded it during the week and I'm loving it so far, the battery seems to be better than all the previous non-QPR A16 betas I was in. Only issue I currently have/had was that dark system theme just seemed inconsistent or off, I've swapped to the light theme for now but will play around with it more at the wkend.

Turn on the bold font in the settings. Makes everything extra crispy. 🙂

What would people recommend as a replacement charger? I'm looking at Anker 45w on Amazon for 19€, anything else? Got a fake last time so will only order direct from Amazon or another site

I generally get Anker or Ugreen chargers. Used to buy from the 'official shop' on Aliexpress, but have found the Amazon prices are fairly close which I prefer because of faster delivery and easier returns.

Look for a charger that has the following 2 standards:

USB-PD (USB Power Delivery) This is the overarching standard for fast charging over USB-C.

PPS (Programmable Power Supply) - This is a critical component of USB-PD 3.0 (and higher) that allows for more granular control over voltage and current. This "on-the-fly" adjustment means the charger can deliver power more efficiently and with less heat, leading to faster charging and potentially better battery longevity. Pixels explicitly benefit from PPS for their fastest charging speeds.

Watched MKBHD's latest video which focuses on switching from iPhone to Android. Posting because he mentioned apps for journaling re the Pixel 10. I've checked my P8 and it's not compatible, which is disappointing.

Separately, I see the alarm and clock timer settings on my phone had a bit of a design tweak recently.

Has anyone else's battery life gone to absolute ****? Mine is terrible, even when not using the phone (e.g. I lost about 25% overnight). Anything I can do? Don't want to get rid of a phone that is working perfectly aside from the battery

Anything in Battery Usage? Check settings. The current version of Android shows both screentime and background time. Might highlight a rogue app. I'm on an 8 Pro and the battery is still great for me.

Do you have one with a "bigsurf" screen? If so, they contain a manufacturing fault and get a refurbished model. My refurbished phone was essentially brand new. 0 battery cycles.

Details on how to check here:

@CantGetNoSleep Having the same issue as you. Got on to Google support last week and they are going to replace the battery under warranty. My warranty isnt up until the middle of November

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,552 ✭✭✭CantGetNoSleep

I've actually already returned it under warranty because of this

how long is the warranty on the Google Pixel 8Pro? I have mine 2 years and lately the battery needs charging by 6pm most days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,237 ✭✭✭wassie

2 years. You can check warranty status here https://store.google.com/repair?hl=en-GB

Also see Googles help on battery

    https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/15738128

Pixel 3 through Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Fold: Should retain up to 80% capacity for about 800 charge cycles, after which battery replacement is recommended.

There are ways to get your battery health & cycle count displayed - just search google for it or check chatGPT.

If you just outside of warranty but your battery is goosed you may be able to make a claim under consumer law. A P8 Pro is an expensive bit of kit and should be expected to last well beyond the 2 year wty period, given software updates are 7 years on the 8 Pro.

Worth checking your app diagnostics also to understand if its your app usgae is causing the drain also.

Hmm, just had the pink vertical line there briefly. It's gone now. Got my 8 in October 2023.

    I see there's a repair option.

I had the line a while back - checked online and I was eligible for the extended warranty so I sent it off to Poland and it came back good as new

If you press them they will allow you to put a hold on a credit/debit card so that they send you out the refurbished device before you return the original device with the defective screen. It saves you having to set everything up from memory.

Is it a different device they send back? Thought they replaced the screen on the device you send them.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 8,332 Mod ✭✭✭✭Jonathan

No, they issue refurbished devices as replacements. Check the IMEI on your new device to confirm.

    IMEI did not change.

It's funny though - the phone did feel a little different. The quick settings panel icons were different when I got it back and the camera video app was different - it seemed to be higher quality and there were new on screen settings in the slow motion videos allowing me to easily change where the slow motion occurs. First thing I checked was the software version (no change) and then the IMEI (no change). A refurbished device might explain it but the IMEI definitely hasn't changed.

Thanks for all of the above.

The pink line happened again this morning. It disappears quickly enough. Should I still send it back? Wondering in case they say they can't replicate the issue, but presumably they've tools to see exactly what's going on. I'll try to get a photo of it next time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,072 ✭✭✭budgemook

do you ever get the green screen or is it just the pink line?

My experience with the pink line was that it was intermittent to begin with but it soon became permanent.

Have you checked how long extended support is available for? From memory I think mine was due to run out in April this year so if it's the same with you then I'd send it back before it expires for sure.

Only the pink line. I put in my IMEI number and it accepted it.

The blurb on the repair page says

Google has determined that a limited number of Pixel 8 devices may experience display related vertical line and flickering issues. Google is offering an Extended Repair Program to provide support coverage for affected Pixel 8 devices for 3 years after the date of original retail purchase.

I've got the label for the return and scheduled the UPS pick up.
