Lads I was actually looking forward to that game this evening.. How are Castlerahan a senior team? They would be a bad junior team across the country..

Crosserlough look good though .. Put rubbish like that to the sword..

Almost reminds me of the gaels in there pomp.

Extremely poor. Crosserlough walked through for goals and should have scored more. Rehill and Miller on for 2nd half

I’d agree Lough off their best. Castlerahan made them look good tonight but they were absolutely atrocious.

There is a big difference between the top three and those bottom level senior teams.

Gowna favourites, Ramor second and then Lough going on league form.

what's wrong with Killian Clarke? Just listened to we are Cavan intermediate preview and they made it sound bad. Is he sick?

A second defeat for Shercock after being promoted. Butlersbridge hammered Lacken. Kingscourt beat Cavan Gaels. Gearoid McKiernan was carrying them the last years, limited without him.

McCabe more or less has the Cavan job now. Finbar Reilly has pulled out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,480 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

He always had the job as the best informed poster in Cavan GAA announced here some weeks ago! As the flyer in Croke Park in ‘97 said, Kerry have the ring, Cavan have the king!!

It’s ridiculous. I knew Finbarr wouldn’t get it but I was hoping he’d at least make it difficult. I suppose interviews are due today and what’s the point wasting his time. I’m sure he has better things to be at.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,412 ✭✭✭rrs

Might have been awkward after the rumblings from when Finbar left Arva.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,808 ✭✭✭celt262

He is the most qualified person within the county for the role I supose so let him at it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26 Custard_Cream

What was the purpose of the committee? One person for an interview is a pretty embarrassing return.. We really do have the most unambitious and uninspiring county board in the country.

We know what we will get with McCabe, he can generally get a decent tune from his teams in terms of performance.. Seems to be an expert in moral victory's... Gowna in Ulster, Westmeath etc...Them teams were well capable of finding a way to lose ..

Are we not trying to get away from that here in Cavan ? We needed a manager who will find ways to win .

I’ll raise you Macdermott. Has intercounty experience and won county titles in several counties including Cavan.

Has McCabe not always been a joint manager when he won something also?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26 Custard_Cream

Wouldn't hang my hat on McDermott to be honest with you.. it has been a long time since he was involved with an intercounty set up .. it's literally a different game now..

I remember being at a Ramor game in Crosskeys years ago probably 2018 or so and I was getting the vibe they weren't too happy with him at that time..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,480 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

I wouldnt hang it on him either but I’d prefer him to McCabe and he is vastly more experienced than McCabe so the poster above was wrong that Dermot is the most qualified person within the county.

MacDermott led Ramor to their first county title in 25 years.

Watching the games to date, whoever goes in won’t have much to work with. I’d agree with the view on the podcast that the top 2/3 teams could match most from other counties but after that the standard is abysmal.

Senior should be cut to eight teams. Two groups of four. Too often we’ve clubs hovering around the bottom that are clearly off the level required.

Re the games tonight, Martin Reilly got a bad bang but I don’t think there was any malice from Holla. Two men wholeheartedly going for the ball. It’s just unfortunate how it ended.

Yea I hear what your saying Cavan king.. We really are scraping the bottom of the barrel.. This "committee" as there calling themselves, what did they actually do? Why not be proactive and have conversations with different managers across the country?

In terms of the senior championship this weekend ,it has been a bit dull. Maybe there needs to be a conversation about the one up and one down situation.. there are teams who shouldn't be there and by the body language probably don't want to be there.

.It's so much harder to get into senior than get out of it .. I was thinking about Ger Loughnannes famous comments about the Offaly hurlers watching laragh tonight.. There are teams in intermediate like Cucus, bboro and bridge who would offer more value at this moment at senior.

Don't know who MacDermott is. Might aswell support McCabe now anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 361 ✭✭Nobbies

If there's any positive from his appointment, it will be his resignation or sacking in due course having failed badly.

Proving those who don't agree with his appointment, as having been right.

    Finbars time will come.

It's not as though mc cabe is taking over a team in a good place. No point bringing in some big name and relevant fee to become a scape goat at a later date, having not been prepared as a county board to resource all else associated with same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,808 ✭✭✭celt262

I'd hope he proves us wrong and does well. Looking to see our County team do poorly just so u can say I told you so wouldn't make you much off a supporter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,480 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Serious question, do you follow the club game?

I know him yes I don't know any MacDermott who has he managed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,480 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Oh I see what you did there, very clever - introducing spelling of a surname into a point. Great success. Was that to draw attention from the fact of the matter that you were clearly wrong to say McCabe was the most qualified person in the county for the job?

I though it was some Scottish lad you were on about.

Very interesting offerings you provide to the discussion. Quite insightful.

It’s peak football time in the county. Have you any comments on the ongoing club championships at the minute? Paul Fitz must be right that ye lads on here are county football supporters only.

People are entitled to support county football only if they wish there are lots of lads like that about.

Arva will be a handful for anyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 184 ✭✭etuzyuk

Draw between Mullahoran and Ramor. Mullahoran will feel they left it after them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,480 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Very short season for anyone. Football only from February essentially to June

I’ve a friend from Donegal doesn’t support any club in Cavan but lives here. Even he would go into Breffni each weekend during championship to watch a game.

Good game (probably the only one of the first round) but that is Mullahoran at their best, you could see Ramor never got out of second gear and are keeping their powder dry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,480 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

I generally find Ramor the least “explosive”, if that’s the best term to use, of the big three. I find they leave teams in the game whereas Gowna or Crosserlough absolutely hammer teams when they get a run.

It’s probably due to a lack of firepower because I feel Ramor don’t have the finishers that the other two do.

Mullahoran were the better team last night and should have won the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 184 ✭✭etuzyuk

COR a class footballer. Mullahoran will probably feel he was unfairly targeted and officials were very weak in letting it continue.

They definitely did leave that behind them. Ramor had a fair few wides too, but Mullahoran had way too many wides, including dropped balls and handpassed balls to the net. If Mullahoran can sort out the shooting, they have a lot of youth around some experienced heads and can get better and challenge
