You can add a box of course to a lose watch..but not cards.. you might pick one up cheap secondhand if you were bothered

Service papers are the next best thing (not a cert now from Dawson, a poroper manufacturers service docket)….Rolex give out very nice service cards with a service, date of service, warranty etc. Patek will give you an "extract from the archive" as will AP if you present the watch to a boutique and pay them a handsome fee. Moonswatch certificates can be had on the floor of any bettingshop.

A Rolex service might be 1k versus an independent watchmaker? 3 to 500?

The last Omega I bought came with an unstamped/blank warranty card.. what are they worth? Won't matter as I'll never ever ever sell it ☺️at least it doesn't need a service

I've had watches without box and papers, were they more difficult to sell then the ones with? Depends on the brand imho.
ie. Tag Heuer will attract people who do not appreciate having the box, especially here in Ireland, in mainland Europe it is different, here a lot of dodgy characters want one. Selling it with a box doesn't help.

I find having a purchase receipt is the main bit that helps when selling any watch.

I also find ads here in Irl to be a complete rip off in most of the cases, people are asking mad money for something they brought over from UK/US without purchase receipt and then quoting AD prices and pricing them as if they were all bought in Paul Sheeran's.

Genuinely hard to find a private person selling their watch they got bored of, it's mostly people trying to make money on the quoted purchase they did above.

For me, whichever watch I've owned without a box I kind of disliked it and couldn't wait to get rid of it, it just didn't feel right.

I was actually delighted the other day when I stumbled on a case I thought I have thrown away from a Suunto digital watch I've had, stored it safely immediately and the watch felt better.

So yeah, for me, full set is a must and if I can I insist on purchase receipt too. I don't really need to buy them all so no rush.

Also have to comment on Swatch collabs sets here, I can't believe someone would pay 20 euros for that collection not to mention 4 digits. It's worthless and always will be, but I guess it is relatively easy to find a sucker to buy one.

I've had one of them advertised it in the next 5 minutes from getting it delivered.

the swatches might not be worth much but there's no denying they have sold like hotcakes.. my son bought a 1965 white one in manchester few months ago and he's happy out with it… obviously no moonwatch professional but grand for what it is.. the blancpain ones dont seem to have done a fraction of the sales.. if i was the sort of person that could say i just wanted a watch to 'keep' then id have no problem buying a lose watch in top condition.. unfortunately i get bored easily so end up selling on.. its just easier to sell..as an example i bought a new ref speedy last year for 4k no box or papers and sold it for the same a few months ago in a couple of days.. if it had box and papers it would have been closer to 5k. The omega boxes are big and bulky and nice.. but they end up in a drawer gathering dust until a sale.. as others have said its just a value thing at the end of the day, buy cheaper sell cheaper.. i do think it becomes more of an issue once you are spending 10k on a rolex or something than 3k on an omega.

I'd consider it more of a fad myself, the Moonswatches that is, but I guess its an OK cheapy to go on a beach holiday with.

As for being a collectible it's hard to know. It may tank to nothing it may be worth something. Weirder things have accumulated collectible value. But I'll pass on those.

    👍️ All in good time.
I do and don't want to move it on, it took me some time to get to that watch.

This thread is for buying and selling watches though. Not sure why you posted in here if you are not selling? This thread is not for "testing the waters"

    Aesthetically challenged it is.

it’s rare I agree with unkel but he is right. No reference number and no price on the OP.

I am willing to bet you think it’s worth 85 percent of the RRP also…..😀

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 930 ✭✭✭markad1

you're right, I'll get a proper ad up, sorry.

    85%….. at least 110% it's Aesthetically challenged 🤣

Apologies, I don't regularly post here.

I really hope you got a steep discount from RRP for it…::or you are in for severe pain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 prime87

It doesn't matter, it is unsellable, like I said, no one is buying that unless advertised for 20% of the RRP which the seller aint doing anyhow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 10,057 ✭✭✭✭893bet

I don’t think it’s quite that unsellable. But it’s gonna hurt.
I had heard that discounts on Sherans were not really a thing.

I like the aerospace design. personally but 46mm be far to large for my tastes.

I actually think that Breitling is not bad-looking. Not sure that any non precious breitling is worth 7 grand RRP and and ani-digi one doubly so. I suppose when you put a for sale post up you are going to get opinions on resale.

Its a very esoteric watch, and the market is limited. You might find somebody that wants it an will pay you big bucks? Unlikely. Your market is small and Breitling is notorious for depreciation. I have a pal, and get this, they, bought a 20k solid gold breitling dress watch….I **** you not. We joke that he will be buried with it, and even grave robbers won't want it. The reason you're selling it is the reason nobody else will pay you big bucks.

Having said that apart from the giant size, I think its a good looking watch. I would buy it round the 2k mark. After that 3k-5k anyone with a ounce of sense would be getting a nice omega. 6-8k mark we are getting into a reasonable Rolex or a really nice Omega.

Just throwing my chair in the ring for the breitling bashing pile on...... but who in the hell thought having the name embossed in giant caps up the side of the straps was a classy idea lol?

Who knows, maybe theres some nine inch wristed chopper pilot or skydiving bank robber out there pining for one.

This is the cheapest one in Europe advertised at least from a dealer

    Breitling Cockpit B50
    US$6,555
    https://chrono24.app/breitling/breitling-cockpit-b50-night-mission-yellow-rubber-strap-with-box--papers-top-condition--id38122795.htm?SETLANG=en_IE&SETCURR=USD

It'll have to be a reasonable discount on that for sure but I'd try c24 ,market won't be big in Ireland .

anyone saying it needs to be 20% of the retail price you’re clearly hasn’t a clue what they are talking about. It may not be to your taste but claims like that are pure nonsense
