That's a beauty Unkel. Understated but classy.

Does it wear small or big?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,366 ✭✭✭micks_address

i was going to ask if its an automatic - doh! seems like good value for an automatic tag

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,789 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

I’ve had the same model twice over the years and in my opinion it wears small because of the bezel and dial being the same colour

I remember being excited at my first one in around 2009, it’s a timeless watch and better than some of the gaudy models out lately

Thanks, yeah I am not the biggest fan of TAG, but this is a good looking watch. It doesn't wear big. Most divers wear a bit smaller than the size would suggest because of the diving bezel taking up quite a bit of space, so the dial is relatively small

Nice alright. Kinda doesn't "look like" a Tag somehow though. My mind's eye wrote "Seiko" on it at first glance.

This was sold for equal 1300 to unkel recently which is 2020 with warranty card Aquaracer, also calibre 5 automatic.

    For this:

    https://www.adverts.ie/sports/tag-heuer-aquaracer-calibre-5/37914526

Also "Current retail price of the watch is €3800"

Retail price of 2001 Aquaracer WAS ~1200 euros. As in 25 years ago.

which is ~2001 Aquaracer now asking equal 1300?

Just saying, but glws and no pun intended but this is a bit rich ad

    🤔

    Sold it meanwhile.

I guess plenty of watchers on C24 luckily does mean something unlike adverts where it is simply beyond me why some folks add a watch in their watchlist with 0 intention buying it.

Watching watches on adverts seems to be a thing in itself. I've seen one person who freaks out about it and constantly withdraws adds and relists as they don't like watchers.. I'll often add a watch to my watchlist just to see how much it might sell for. Some folks are just very touchy about the subject. On the subject of sellers. I was interested in a watch recently where the buyer was selling it at the rrp, I could buy it 200 euro less new online in the EU but they wouldn't even consider lowering their asking. Do some people think a product is still new even after they have bought it? Most things depreciate in value as soon as you pay for them.. something isn't new once you buy it or is that just me?

I've seen that one too - it's because they have an extremely high price on each watch they list, they recently had a Panerai up for close to 5k which everywhere else sells for 3.5k and in better condition (+ those guys are also making money on it) + trying to retrieve money on straps that are well used and no one ever gets their money back they have spent on straps.

Likely reseller trying to earn money on a well used watch. Plenty of those around.

Tempted sometimes to make comments on adverts on those ads but no point - but here I cant resist.

I mean it's enough to look at this Aquaracer listed a bit above quoting "these retail at 3800" - well no they don't since it's 25 years old watch (or there about), very disingenuous.

A good stereotype about Irish people is 'they don't like other people knowing their business'. I've met plenty of people who hate the idea of the Property Price Register, for example. Chrono and eBay are providing you with access to a global marketplace of people who are genuinely interested in buying watches. Plenty of watchers and time wasters there, too, of course, but volume is the key.

If you want to put something up for sale you have to accept people will be nosy about that, see what offers you get or whether there is interest, etc. Irish people are uniquely weird about not accepting that reality, ime.

Don't forget watchcharts - best site by far to figure how much something actually sells for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,015 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Ive been keeping an eye on the price of older Omega Seamaster models over the last couple of years, as I always fancied one, but there is no give in prices at all, whether they are selling or not.

Sellers dont seem to want to lower the price, many holding out for crazy prices compared to other sellers.

I dont understand the logic of NOT selling an item if you have it up for sale continually. If you have it after a year or two, then you have priced it too high. And digging your heels in and saying, "I'm only going to sell for X" is daft, if its not selling. Either lower your price or take it down.

In some instances, sellers have actually increased their prices, despite watches not selling.

A lot of people have been stung by their sunk cost on watches, particularly anyone buying between mid 2020 and late 2023.

They bought in a bubble, tied up a wedge and are adamant that the watch they bought returns what it owes them or a v.high percentage of it.

If they hold out long enough, inflation alone may bring sale prices back up to their asking but, without an urgent need for such a seller to raise cash? They'll likely continue to hold the line and those asking prices will be the artificial floor as quite often those sellers won't look at completed sale prices or indeed watch fora where watches are traded either.

Thats it. If I bought a watch for 5k that will get 2k now, unless I really really need 2k, I will just hold on to it. Its only natural, most people would do the same I guess.

I find quoting rrp when bought a totally useless benchmark.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,789 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

for people into watches it likely is useless but for someone just looking to buy their first watch then it gives them a rough idea on value, i get asked loads of times how much an item was originally and also how old a watch is

    The internet isn’t for everyone

That's the reason I put the current RRP in the ad. To show this watch, which is mint, literally as new, is thousands cheaper than buying the current version in a shop

But I can see the other side of the argument as well and on reflection, I agree that it doesn't add any real value and it could annoy people. So I have taken it out of the ad now:

Selling my Bell & Ross BRWW1-92S. 45mm case, but with the wire lugs it wears much smaller. I've had this for a while now, and it's keeping incredible time - within 1s per week! It's in great shape - few marks on the case sides, but because of the case shape, they're not visible at all when it's on the wrist.

I've always loved the look of these. They're inspired by WW1 pilots who soldered pieces of wire onto their pocket watches to turn them into wrist watches. Cool story, and they wear really well with the smaller strap. Pic on my 7.5" wrist here.

It's watch only, no box or papers. Before I deal with the timewasters on Adverts, I'll put it up here at €1100. Inspection in Dublin welcome.
