I would safely say that there will be a price hike during the 12 months.

to be fair they generally just do it once a year (max) and that’s in April

Update: I received an email to a survey about 10 days after I cancelled. I completed the survey advising Sky I was leaving due to the high cost versus new customers and competitors. I then received a text message with a link to review my options. The link was to a 45% discounted TV offer. This brought the TV cost back down to my original price of €24.20. A further call to Sky got the broadband cost down to €30, so now back on my original price of €54.20 for another 12 months.

I just got the same message, when you go through the link did it give you an option to keep broadband? I’ll leave it a week before I take it up again but would like to keep Netflix and the free extra box

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 268 ✭✭evostik

The link was only to the TV offer. I called Sky and managed to agree a reduced price for the Broadband for another 12 months.

Hi all, cancelled a couple of weeks ago and the other day got a text msg with a link to renew at about 24E. Took the offer and happy with that. But I'm on a sky hd box currently and looking on the app I see SkyQ is available at no cost also I seem to b able to add a couple of mini boxes at no extra cost, ie the same monthly cost. Is that correct or if I take it I'm I gonna get an almighty bill and have to ring and argue?!? Any previous experience welcome!

I took the offer and they have given me Netflix and extra box at full price which I didn’t want. I thought when I was taking the offer it was just 24 for tv so I’ll have to ring them unfortunately. It looks like when you take the offer there are no options for add ons etc so just make sure you review within the 14 day cooling off period.

Thanks for that! I'll keep a close eye on it👍 How many minis did u get and how much extra did they charge?

I had one which was free last year (my first year using Q) but was 20 a month this year so I cancelled it

Does anyone know if this text is still being sent out? I just cancelled after not being given much of a deal but don't really want to switch elsewhere so hoping for the text.

They offered me a 5euro discount to stay. Then once cancelled they offered 25euro off but at that stage I had switched to Vodafone and am very happy. Hope you get a deal you're looking for.

Yep got a text 10 days later offering broadband for €35 (full price gone up to €64) and 45% off Signature package with Netflix so took it.

Anyone get a good deal on renewals recently?

Rang the cancellation team two weeks ago, ful package sky customer for 30 years now. Sports and movies. Since Sky Q came on stream I've added a multi room plus phone and broadband. Was something like 140 pm. Last month I noticed it had gone to 189 so rang to cancel. Person I spoke to said my subscription was going to 235 next month no joke!! Offered me 168 which i refused and then said he'd talk to his supervisor and ring me while I was away. No phone call came so I'll be on first thing in morning to push ahead with cancelling. Don't mind paying a bit for the comfort of their product but 235 is extortion

I cancelled mine and then got 45% off offer on the Sky app after about 2 weeks.

Offered 165 and so I refused and continued to cancellation. Told them now the soccer is spread out to a few different channels they should be lowering the price not raising it.

Pretty sure they have 215 games this year compared to about 120 last year. Premier League that is.

It's stupid to be fair. They don't budge, send you out boxes to send your equipment back and as soon as you do they'll ring or text and say we want to give you 45 - 50 % off.

Just give the discount when I ring the first time. 🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,774 ✭✭✭Trampas

It’s been spread years. Sky got more games. Only way the premier league was getting same money was handing over more games. So they could keep face by saying to clubs we’ve the same money coming in. Sky know their business model is bust and need to do what they can to keep numbers as they’re losing them everywhere. So push through with your cancellations and they’ll be calling you to come back. 235 is crazy amount to pay. I assume it includes bb and mobiles

Anyone have the number that sky usually ring off? My contract is up next week but had a missed call from a +44 number today so wondering was it them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,381 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

I think that's a scam number doing the rounds, myself and the missus both got scam calls from the same +44 number.

It's not actually. It's broadband, landlines, full movies, full sports and a second Sky Q box upstairs. Extortion for that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,340 ✭✭✭✭muffler

Are you now saying 235 is not a crazy amount of money for that package?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,529 ✭✭✭fatherted1969

It's a ridiculous amount of money, think the poster thought I'd mobile phones also. Just pointing out my package is all i was doing

Offered €126 after initial offer of €135 for basic tv, movies(which I’ve told them I never watch), Netflix, one extra box and Ultrafast broadband.

Turned it down hoping to get down to at least €110

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 185 ✭✭sheldon16

    Hi All,

For my parents account, price due to go up to €140 (Basic TV, Internet & Multiroom). Last offer was €130 after offer of €135.

How long do you need to be gone from sky to then be classed as a new customer? Trying sort out options before go with cancellation

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,340 ✭✭✭✭muffler

My personal experience is from some years ago so I'm not sure if Sky still has the same policies. To be considered a new customer you have to be gone for a year however they do or did have better offers for "returning" customers. On one occasion I rang on the day I was due to be cut off and the best they would offer was 20% off. But I rang the following day and the agent said I was now classed as a returning customer and therefore he could make me a better offer to sign up again. I can't remember exactly but I think it was about 40 or 50% off.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Would Sky consider your mother to be a new customer if your father cancelled, I wonder?

Maybe someone here knows the answer to that question.

Tried that before and it didn't work as its all same surname

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,232 ✭✭✭0ph0rce0

It works when you say you're moving out. Cancel please, the reason. Moving out.

Mother signs up online new contract same name doesn't matter. Worked for me

I didn't know that, good to know. Would you get landed with the streaming box after signing up as a new customer?
