If customer service says it ran, when it evidently didn't, that's usually because controllers haven't got round to putting the cancellation through their system yet. The real time then defaults to the timetable, and customer service are no wiser than the average person using the app.

If it didn't run, they can't pretend it did. What they can do, to avoid fines, is enter a verifiable reason for its failure. The NTA can essentially see everything.

This definitely should NOT be happening. If something happens on the journey his details will be attached to it and the authorities will be looking to know why.

Most new drivers will sign on immediately on getting into the seat, I would mostly leave it until the first busy stop in O'Connell Street is served in case the machine doesn't start up straight away, to avoid any delays issuing tickets or with the validator starting up, then sign on for the journey.

There's a new AVL system coming soon, so hopefully more accuracy will be seen then.

I remember being told (by other drivers, it wasn't official policy) to do exactly that on the 17, 175, etc. There's no reason to log out because they're going on a break and aren't going to be logging in again until after your journey has finished anyway.

I agree with you 100%…. gone are the days of the old ticket machines and the modules…

    Its a disgrace Joe!

And is it certain that the controller will put the cancellation through the system? Is the NTA looking at different info than this system? How does the NTA know for sure?

If the controller doesn't put the cancellation through the system, it shows up on the NTA's systems as having not run at all, without any recorded reason.

Just few route changes for upcoming B.C

    Any confirmation of start date?

Interesting how 73 has much reduced frequency compared to 123, while 82 has been changed back to Ringsend (for now, at least). Also, didn't know 54a went up to Dun Laoghaire :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,032 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

That has to be a mistake for the 73.

The frequency chart shows 10/15 mins frequency.

Copy & paste error for the 54a too.

It's not a mistake the 73 will be every 30 minutes

    October now

I find that difficult to believe if I’m honest.

It’s a massive drop without any compensating changes, is at variance with the original plan, and one that will go down like a lead balloon if true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,188 ✭✭✭✭cgcsb

The NTA had no issue with massively downgrading the 46a service on NCR with zero public consultation so not that surprising that they would do the same to the 123, although they usually prefer to go after working class communities, they may have bitten off more than they can chew with Marino.

Thanks for that update, esp re the F2. Although I had thought the peak frequency was gone to 10 mins, must have changed back, but nice to know its scheduled for a 24 hour service. Appreciate the news.

Dropping the 123 to 30 minutes frequency is insane, it most be a mistake! If not, then there will be war in the area.

Any idea what the route pattern change on the 150 is? Surprised they're keeping it going as far as Limekiln. As said here, Crumlin Hospital or Stannaway seemed to fit the bill for it until the 71 comes in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 151 ✭✭AX636

It's not a mistake our unions where shocked when they heard it will be every 30 minutes this was from DB management who had a meeting with NTA when discussing about the upcoming Bus Connects

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,776 ✭✭✭john boye

I think the 122 is changing to the 123 routing around the Drimnagh area which will keep the frequency high at that end of it.

I am a bit surprised by a few things. Picking the F1 and F2 to be the 24hr routes is a choice, I would have preferred the F1 and F3 as they would have a wider coverage in both the north and south. Additionally the change form all 3 being 10minute frequency, to 7.5, 15, and 15 minute frequency is interesting. It technically is an increase in frequency from 15bph to 16bph, and the F1 being the most frequent does make sense being that it is the longest.

It seems that the 80 being 24hr either changed or was just a rumour? I can't say I am surprised but I am disappointed, as the extra capacity would have been good for the C-spine and it's needed for the 15 which is always packed at night.

I am surprised they are cancelling the 49n as its route is mostly covered by the A-spine, not the F-spine. I also wasn't expecting any NiteLink routes to go until the D-spine with the 77n.

There is simply no way the 73 can run at 30 minute frequency. That route on the Northside is the only route covering major parts of the North inner city, Marino and Griffith Avenue. It is very well used route.

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 23,559 Mod ✭✭✭✭bk

I was on the 123 off peak last week, it filled completely with foreign students on Griffith Avenue and left another bus full of them behind at the stop. Ran full into town from there!

I've no idea what they are thinking, absolutely mad!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,597 ✭✭✭VG31

It's the same for the 9, E1 and E2. They're often packed with foreign students going to DCU. It will be back to normal by September at least.

I wouldn't trust GAI to operate a 30 minute frequency all the time anyway. A cancelled bus will mean an hour gap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,597 ✭✭✭VG31

For the Northside, the F3 would provide more coverage as a 24 hour route that the F2. They could have the F2 serve Finglas South overnight, that would be the easiest solution. Although, I wonder if it's a deliberate decision not to run that section 24 hours as it's particularly bad for antisocial behaviour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,277 ✭✭✭Daith

It would have made sense to combine the F2 and F3 routes into one 24 hour service. Maybe use Wellmount Avenue instead. It does seem particulary pointed you're making 2/3 routes 24 hours

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,032 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

Again though, we don’t actually know that they aren’t operating a hybrid F2 & F3 overnight.

People are making assumptions based on a high level document - we have yet to see the detail.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,277 ✭✭✭Daith

This thread would consist of about 10 posts if we were waiting for concrete evidence!

Even without that document, it would always be unlikely you'd have three 24 hour routes anyway, so no harm in speculating regardless.

Is the shitness of the customer helpline for Dublin Bus part of the BusConnects thing? It's now just ageneric TFI call centre in I believe Clonakilty, staffed by people who know nothing about Dublin Bus, unlike the previous Dublin bus helpline, which was staffed by guys who knew their onions.

Something which I noticed was that L89 will now run to only Toberburr, and not replace 196 and operate to Swords, as per old map. Anyone in the know as to why it was cut back?
