Anyone know if all ID3s will be getting this new version?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 458 ✭✭Tech_Head

Only if the have the newer / larger screen.
Not all “facelift” models have it so it can be tough to know for sure without seeing it.

I'm in France at the moment with the ID3 and I have to say I am impressed with the route planner, it sends us to Ionity pretty much every time, whereas our Hyundai could send us to any old random quality charger.

At 54,000k on mine(Id3 Pro 58kW) and still have over 3mm of thread depth on each of the 4 tyres.(Michelin)

I managed to get 53,000k on my stock Turanza's before needing to swap out. And the starting thread depths was 5mm.

How did you manage that?!? Mine were cooked after 15k.

I went through 2 sets of those in a Cupra Born in under 40k. Apart from flooring it a bit at the start I was driving reasonably normally on decent roads

Rotated regularly and checked threads/tyre pressure once a week. I drive between Cork and Kerry 5 days a week, so it was all consistent mileage on decent roads. I have heard horror stories regarding those Bridgestones, hence the weekly checks!! 😅

Just a random example of the GTX Performance Plus efficiency

    image.png

That was coming from Dublin-Cork. Full car, battery was at good temp, 19℃ outside and dry road so conditions were perfect really.

~200km of that was at 120km/h+(GPS speed). A bit slower at the start until I got to M7 hence the slightly slower avg speed of 92kmh, but it is a good representative motorway run in summer.

    I think 16.3kWh/100km is decent.

very decent, particularly good for 120km ph driving, which was 83% of that journey

The AP550 motor/ inverter unit, has had universally fantastic reviews

Here's my sister's efficiency in her Born VZ so far.

Commuting between M7-M50, probably not doing a lot of 120kph in that rush hour traffic.

The long term on her Kona was something like 14.9kWh and my long term in my 58kWh Born is 15.9kWh/100km and I'm not doing as much motorway mileage as she is. Seems like the AP550 is a good improvement.

I just realised I incorrectly referenced the tyrs as Michelin,s when in fact they are Goodyears.

Very good efficiency at higher speeds which is a big plus. Given 92 kph average speed I don't think it was possible that you did 120kph for 200km as this should have been reflected in a much higher average speed - more likely closer to 100kph or so. It is very difficult to achieve higher average speeds unless you are really flying it beyond 120kph with little or no traffic to slow you down.

Given 92 kph average speed I don't think it was possible that you did 120kph for 200km as this should have been reflected in a much higher average speed - more likely closer to 100kph or so.

I was at 120km/h (and a bit with it) once I hit the M7. Cruise control nearly all the way and I didnt stop.

Getting to M7 pulled the average down at the start (Finglas road, M50, N7). Was stuck in traffic for a while and the average drops quite a bit in that scenario but I was at 120km/h+ for ~200km

I could be wrong but as I understand it - it is an averaging of distance traveled and speed. If you did 120kph actual for 200 kms then regardless of how slow you went for the remaining 42km your average speed would be close to 120kph and not as low as 92kph you recorded. It's simple arithmetic I think but maybe there are other factors- did you stop on the way at all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,345 ✭✭✭KCross

    I didn’t stop.
it’s based on distance and time. Not distance and speed.

I didn’t check it at various stages but I presume my first hour or so was slow at maybe 40-50km/h average and then the last 1hr40mins(actual motorway) at 120+ or something like that.

Once I hit motorway I had no delays, traffic was moving quickly… above speed limit actually.

My average speed driving home is something like 35kph and it's mostly 60kph and some 80kph with little stopping, I wonder is it a zero average where it counts the time you're stopped as opposed to your average moving speed? I also often drove +2 on the cruise control for GPS speeds.

AFAIK the car keeps counting time on any interim stops on a journey so that can drop the average speed quite considerably. Also I've often noticed in the Born that I rarely get close to the set speed on average due to traffic and waiting time to pull out at junctions etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭Ev fan

My final comment on this - it's basic physics. You didn't stop - you say you did 120kph actual speed or over for the full 200km plus something less for the remaining 42 km - yet it took you 2hrs 40mins to travel the total distance- Doesn't Compute. Sorry for being a pedantic PIA.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭Ev fan

Didn't read your comment fully- if you only achieved 40km/hr which is slow for the 1st hour- then you covered the remaining 202km at 122kph GPS speed (125/126 set speed) - that's very good going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,345 ✭✭✭KCross

    so it does compute! 😀

the first bit was 80k fans leaving Croke park so it was slow.

Once I hit motorway it was clear road.

As I said, I didn’t check it at intervals. Maybe the first bit was 50km/h, I don’t know. All I can keep telling you is that I was doing full motorway speed for all of the motorway part of that journey and that is about 200km. Take it or leave it, I don’t mind. 😉

This is a rough check rounded

    200km @ 120km/hr = 1hr 36mins (96 mins)

    2:40 (160mins) - 1:36 (96mins) = 64mins

    42km in 64mins is average of approx. 91.4km/hr (64/42 * 60)

    91.4+120 = 211.4 / 2 = 105km/hr average so if that's a rough check and assume maybe some might have been 118 or 119 km/hr then it's entirely possible that 92km/hr and does compute??? It's certainly closer to 92 than 120.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭Ev fan

42km in 64mins is about 40kph - not 91kph. Tbh it's a trip of 2 halves one very slow at 40 kph and the 2nd 3 times faster at 120+ kph. I didn't think it was possible to do 120+ kph speeds and maintain it for such a long distance (200km) even in light traffic - unless you have a flashing blue light on the roof!!! In my own experience on longer trips when I set the ACC my average speed achieved for the trip is generally a good bit lower than the set speed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭Daveq

Sorry yes, you are correct my mistake.

However it bring the average slightly closer to 92 than 120. So again proves that it is entirely possible, considering everything we know except total time and total distance are approx. And those calcs are very high level.
