I would hardly qualify the marking on the road on the bend as "very clear". The fact that the image has zero traffic on it and is from elevation makes it far easier. It is not this clear when driving. I wonder what the cost of having a second/third arrow 50 yards back the road with another sign would have been to give people warning 🤔

I will say that since that junction was updated the enforcement has been zero so loads of cars still turn up what is the bus lane now. Which is the same as other junctions across the city. No enforcement anywhere.

It's very clear, unless you are used to the old layout or are following other cars. There's a clear sign on your left that says no left turn. There's another clear sign that says it's a 24 hour bus lane. The road markings are there, and the bus lane is clearly marked differently too. What more do you want?

I think I was quite clear on that, a sign before rather than on the bend and road markings prior to rather than on the bend. Your right though, that road marking when covered by a hypothetical car as below is very clear 😂 Think its pretty normal that there are other cars on the road when in the City no? As I said I was used to the old layout and I was following other cars. I am sure that all the regular users are aware of the change. I have admitted that it was my error, I am saying that the signage at the junction, especially given such a significant change to that junction is poor at best.

There is even a car in the bus lane in the picture,

It's actually parked in the loading bay in front of the Ashley Hotel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 sirbidders

the white van is in the loading bay. I think the black car is the one poster referred to, doing a u turn it would appear after making same mistake

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 sirbidders

and the black one in the first photo is defo in the bus lane, not loading bay

Driving from the Lakeview Roundabout by Midelton towards the city on the N25... they should consider destroying the vegetation in the median.

There is very little visibility of what is ahead, could see a very nasty pile up.

The greenery in the middle? Between lanes? On a dual carriageway? I'm confused...

Exactly (although I appreciate it sounds stupid). So as you go around a bend here there is poor visibility of the overtaking lane in front of you. If there is a collision ahead you are flying into them.

You seem to be describing a situation where drivers are routinely driving far to fast for the road conditions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 230 ✭✭Jippo

    Yes and no.

The speed limit is 100 km/hour. This is not safe here. Cut the vegetables I would say.

Is there any part of that road where the bend is so tight that the only way you can see what's in front of you is by looking across the median?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 230 ✭✭Jippo

I might do a screenshot from street view in a few days.

Even just a maps pin would help us to understand what you mean. I use that road a lot and am struggling to understand what you mean other than the sketchy median crossings at Waterrock/Castle Rock Avenue.

I assume this is where meant , just as you curve to the right and head up the hill ..

But I've never thought visibility was that bad there ..

I assumed he was talking about back closer to Lakeview, where there's the hedge right after the roundabout. It is a rather tight bend for the speed of the road, in fairness.

That whole section was built in the 1980s, as a remarkably over-speeced road for the time. Its the Midleton junction that needs to be sorted out there, but sadly Eamonn Ryans fiddling with the N25 Carrigtwohill to Midleton upgrade that have stopped any works being done.

Which junction? Lakeview was out of scope for the Carrigtwohill to Midleton upgrade.

Oatencake wasn't dealt with very well either IMO. The plan was a new junction at Milebush connected to Oatencake and then proceed with new houses with no distributor. It was a fairly low-quality plan.

The current problems at Oatencake came because the "relief road" became a development magnet and there was no effort whatsoever at sustainable planning. Crazy stuff went on like like housing estates on the Ballintubber road and big expansion of Broomfield, all based almost entirely on car dependency through direct access to Oatencake. And now it's all the government's fault.

I'm actually 100% with the TII/NTA/Department on this one: it's the LA's job to sort out the distributors and development of towns.

The problem is that car dependency sells. The average house buyer sees no problem with car dependency. It's the norm.

The hedge does look very big there alright in fairness.

But also it never occurred to me before now that this might be an issue.

There is going to be an accident by the south terrace with the lane change when you come around the corner from infirmary road you stay left in part of the bus lane.People are taking the right lane and going straight on cutting off traffic in the left lane twice it's happened to me in the last few weeks.

Anyone know what is happening with Douglas traffic for the last 2 days? over an hour to get there from town yesterday evening and this morning all backed up Maryborough Hill and Carrs Hill…do not see any roadworks there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,595 ✭✭✭kub

Some very wise person decided it was a good idea to change the timing frequency of the traffic lights by M&S.

God help us…..City council are a joke at times

We need the lights changed by the N40 on ramp, all the others were fine! I also agree about South Terrace but I strongly believe that the main problem is people ignoring the large number of warning signs and road markings. If you’re going into the street for the first time since it was changed, you should be going slower due to the signs warning you there’s changes. Then it’s fine. But most people ignore the signs and fly through

I drove to West Cork on the weekend via the N71. Between Inishannon and Bandon, in the river valley, was quite hairy. The road changes to 100km/h when you get out of the town centre, and then all of a sudden there are slow down signs everywhere and windy bends. I just slowed down and it was fine, going mane 70km/h to 80km/h. But the people behind me didn’t seem happy, and were right up behind me. Why make the road 100km/h if there are signs everywhere after saying slow down due to bends? Why not just make the speed limit lower in the first place?

There have been a couple of fatal accidents on the bend between innishannon and Bandon that's why the flashing signs are there.

Those signs are good, I just don’t see the point in at the same time having the speed limit set at 100km/h. I would have thought 80km/h would be more than enough
