Keeping John Cleary on as football manager is a mistake alright, JFD has been the best football coach in the county with quite some time and should be given the reins. He will rub some people up the wrong way though, and perhaps that's what's needed.

Same goes for Ben O'Connor. A proven winner as a player and now as a manager. Again, won't be going into the job to make friends but that's probably what's needed too for the hurlers.

Even with Frank gone i do wonder is it still the old job for the boys thing going on in the county board? Looking at our campaign we blew a massive lead against Clare in Ennis, beat a Tipp team that got a man sent off before the throw in down the Pairc, we got destroyed by Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds, and i was nervous enough at one stage in the Waterford game.

The Munster Final in the Gaelic Grounds was an epic occasion though and i do think a tougher game from Dublin in the semi final would've been more beneficial for us. Tipp had an epic battle against Kilkenny in their semi final after all.

In the other all Ireland defeats it was a combination of not being good enough and just being unlucky on the day, but today as well as Tipperary upping it big time in the second half was a total and utter mental collapse from Cork. Two points in an entire half of hurling! We're now the laughing stock of Ireland and for a proud county like us that's a pretty galling thing!

It doesn't matter what we win underage all Irelands, League titles and Munster titles i'd never trust a Cork team again until they finally get the job done in an all Ireland final. I like to be as positive as possible but i think we've missed the boat for now, and i fear we won't get another chance to make amends for this for another couple of years now.

For the umpteenth time again a Cork team and management bamboozled by a team deploying a sweeper as well!

It's quite simple really whether it's players or managers, the best available is what should be picked!! If nice guys win that's grand but this bunch have failed now quite significantly two years in a row.

Horgan is spent, just like O Mahony in the rugby. This year was a year too far for both of them.

Bring in some new blood and go again

Well the first thing that has to change in cork is the hype, it's not 1990 anymore and it's much harder get anything off any other county then it was back then

Tradition means nothing , so don't be expecting it to get you over the line, some top quality cork hurlers had bad days today and that is simply down to the pressure they are under by people that well some anyway wouldn't know how to hold a hurl

What do prove mean by "hype"? The media generated hype, is that it?

You won the league, Munster and were motoring until the biggest half implosion We've ever seen. Maybe this will effect you next year but the reality is you were the best team this year until the last 35 mins. If the lads can get motoring again which I think they will you'll be instant contenders next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,578 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Cork weren't motoring in the first half. The 6 point lead glossed over the fact Tipp had a tactical stranglehold on a lot of the first half of the game.

No they didn't, the cork public did

In march this year cork beat half a Clare in a league game in Ennis , there was lads walking up abbey Street after the game singing English football style songs about winning the all Ireland this year

We had lads getting tattoos of being all Ireland champions and going public about it on social media,

When a cork club championship game is played there is no more than 1500 at a group game at senior level but we have 60,000 in croke park for an all Ireland semi final against Dublin

If that's the media's fault then I am missing something, they are all amateurs it has a massive affect on them

Pat Ryan's team just got beaten 3-14 to 0-02 in a half of hurling on thr biggest day of the year, and you're arguing he deserves an All Ireland!?

99 times out of 100, the team that wins is the team that deserves it. I'm a Mayo man, so I know all about the pain of losing finals, but there's no point trying to kid yourself that they "deserve an All Ireland".

And by the way, Mayo have lost plenty of finals, but never did they have a collapse like that. Sorry, not meaning to put the boot in, but that was quite incredible system failure today.

Great summary. I'll probably never see a second half hurling final collapse like that again in my lifetime. I didn't think I'd see another after my own Meath imploded against Donegal last Sunday!

    Sorry wrong thread...

The guy with the tattoo. I chop his arm off if I saw him now. Clown.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,942 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Tipp missed a lot but I felt cork missed a lot of pointed efforts in the first half too. First few mins they'd 3 bad point efforts alone.

    @windy shepard henderson

Considering cork have 200 odd clubs 1500 at a club match is a decent attendance? It might look bad compared to some Ulster clubs who have huge attendances.

A made up story or fellas just having a laugh, some fool with a tattoo (btw nobody rolled their eyes harder than Cork people when the MEDIA promoted him) and lots of people going to matches is now bad apparently. Do you want people not to go to matches or something? That's very strange stuff I have to say.

the Atlanta Falcons be glad that Cork have taken the biggest meltdown in sports history away from them .

nobody made up anything it was all over the media at every level not because the media were promoting it but the cork people were driving it , did it happen once over in kilkennys 4 in a row or limericks no, it was these idiot fair weather supporters looking for an edge on the rest of the country because they had nothing else to shout about

will they be in mourneabbey or paric ui rinn in two weeks time of course they wont and that is about 60,000 of them so dont mind blaming the media

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,649 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

1000 to 1500 is what we get for clare club football games at senior level average its nearly double that for hurling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,649 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

it was a pressure failure not a system failure , alan connally , brian hayes both got lost in the hype of today , and once cork went 7 points down and a man down they didnt know where to look

in fairness to mayo they always fought to the end it was usally a lazy 5 minutes at the start of games that out done them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,540 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

I actually support the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL. Unlike the poor Falcons though at least Cork have plenty of past success to fall back on!

it’s not too bad he just needs to change 1 digit, 2025 - 2005 and he’s sorted 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 671 ✭✭✭eastie17

not after that, Cork are now in the not really serious contenders until you win it category unfortunately irrespective of what happens during a season.

3 final losses in 5 years and a collapse that the pundits can’t explain will do that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,655 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

Well feel no better the morning after...still at a loss with that 2nd half. An awful implosion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 133 ✭✭avud

I think Cork are by themselves here, at least Mayo showd up on the big day . What happened us Sunday was a total meltdown

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,268 ✭✭✭Seadin

It's like a bad dream guys. Players and Management have serious questions to answer.

mgmt have to go. You can’t turn that around as a mgmt team, you can get back to a final but are unlikely to win it.

Players are potentially there to win it but needs a mgmt clean out.
