    Time to say goodbye

Sinner in 3 pretty handy sets 6-3,6-3,6-4, played pretty well, Djokovic looked his age at times.

Time is up for Djoko, he can beat everyone on tour except two players but really can't see him winning another slam so what's the point.

Think this will be the end of Djokovic. Can see him playing the US Open and then calling it a day.

Novak has got some hard thinking to do. If not for the blip at the start of the 3rd set, this would have been even more decisive.

So, a repeat of the French Open final line-up, but I don't think we'll get a repeat of the actual match. How fit is Sinner? Will it matter?

Alcaraz is the best I've seen since Federer. Will win in four sets

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,504 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

When they both play at their best, Alcaraz is definitely the better player. Alcaraz lets his level drop all the time though, which is why you'll see him drops sets to far inferior players. Sinner is more of a tennis robot and generally just plays the same level consistently. That should give Sinner a decent chance depending on the day but maybe Alcaraz's level won't drop as in such a high pressure match? I guess we'll see over the next few years, this is gonna be a fairly common slam final for the foreseeable.

Looking back, that Olympics win last year was really the last hurrah. He has finally been surpassed.

    Alcaraz wins handy on Sunday

I know Djokovic is "old" but he still made it to the semi final.....up against the seeded number 1......it wasn't a shoddy result...both players were carrying injuries.

I'd like to think he'd play for another year or two not bow out just because he didn't make the final

Sinner has won 5 in a row, and Djokovic hasn't taken a single set off him in the last 3. Maybe Djokovic could still beat Alcaraz on a given day but I can't see him ever beating Sinner again with the level of consistency Sinner plays at. It's diminishing returns from here on in at his age, he can keep going but it's not gonna bring him no. 25 so why bother

Sad to see people writing Jannik off - it was a near miracle Carlos beat him in France, saving 3 match points for a double break then breaking serve to even stay in it.

I see the mens and ladies finals have been moved to 4pm, the LTA has finally had some sense.

I suppose in the current heat it's a good move. However, if the men's goes 5 sets with tiebreaks etc it could be a very late finish.

Jaysus Swiantek up 5-0 first set. Come on Anisimova, make a game of it!

Swiatek is doing everything she needs to do, but this is abysmal from Anisimova. No way of sugar-coating it.

Well it surely can't get any worse for Anisimova. We'll unless she's double bagelled, that is 😬

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,611 ✭✭✭✭whiterebel

I think a double is on the way. Hard to see how she wins a game here.

This could be over within the hour

This ladies final is disappointing so far, Swiatek has been sensational...but Anisimova very poor

If I paid for centre Court tickets I'd be miffed at this offering!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 15,177 ✭✭✭✭josip

What's the etiquette in this position. Would it be bad form of Swiatek not to let Anisimova have 1 game to avoid the double bagel? Or would it be bad form to give her a game?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,399 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

This is embarrassing for Anisimova, really sad to see :(

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,057 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

Don't think you can give a player a game in a grand slam final, regardless of how brutal the scoreline is. What if that game is the one that gives them a jolt of confidence and turns things around? It's unlikely of course, but don't think anyone would want to take the risk

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,504 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Never thought I'd see Swiatek win Wimbledon, let alone dish out a double bagel in the final 😨

It isn't nice to watch but Swiatek is focused on 6-0 6-0.

Mad that Anisimova won her first game 6-0, 6-0 and now looks to be certain of the same in the final.

She is mentally broken, an interview won't be nice but the crowd will support her for what it is worth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,399 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Swiatek serving for 6-0, 6-0. Yikes a shame as there have been some hugely enjoyable matches in the ladies draw. And that is it.

Gets it done in under an hour, suppose 60 minutes would have looked worse.

Embarrassing final. The ladies game is crap at present.
