Sinners loses first set to Dimitrov...and now down a break...in second set.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 876 ✭✭✭klr87

This is definitely not going to plan. Sinner hadn't even been broken in his first 3 matches. Grigor is rolling back the years here.

Definitely but I would expect a lot more from Sinner, in fairness Dimitrov is serving extremely well, maybe "Baby Federer" at 34 can make it to another Wimbledon SF or better!

Sinner hurt elbow in first game of first set. Physio called

Sinner finally breaks when it looked like he would go 2 sets behind.

Sinner had pegged Dimitrov back to 5-5 and is then broken again... Dimitrov serving for second set.

Dimitrov 2 sets to nil vs Sinner..

Dimitrov 2 sets up now on Sinner, excellent from him his level has been so high

It's a very long way back for Sinner now. While they close the roof, he'll try to figure out something with his team.

… of course there is always the chance Dimitrov gets injured.

Dimitrov in big trouble with injury.

I dont know if he said pec or back. I doubt he can carry on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 876 ✭✭✭klr87

This would be the 5th slam in row he has had to retire mid-match with injury. I don't see how he can continue.

What’s rule? 10 minutes to be ready?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,411 ✭✭✭deandean

Aww, shame about Dimitrov. He was looking good to take the match.

It'll be sickening if Sinner ends up winning the whole thing now , massive asterix beside it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 876 ✭✭✭klr87

Sinner is the luckiest player alive, but with Dimitrov in the habit of retiring from slams, you've got to question whether he has the required level of fitness to play in slams any more.

Don't think he will, but would be absolutely nuts to see Sinner win the tournament after that.

    Gutting for Dimitrov :(

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

Heartbreaking watching it, especially given the score

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59,471 ✭✭✭✭walshb

there won’t be a massive asterisk. It’s a 5 set match. His opponent couldn’t continue. If Sinner wins the title he will be beating more difficult opponents than today to get the title on Sunday

Initially misread the score on the app and thought Sinner had retired, which didn't surprise me as he was two sets down and had been getting treatment on his elbow. Got a big shock when I saw it was Dimitrov.

From a selfish tennis point of view though it keeps the top half interesting. Despite what some may think, I reckon Djoko would've sauntered to the final had Dimitrov progressed. Now it's a lot more complicated.

I'd be massively shocked if Alcaraz has any trouble getting to the final. Hoping for a French Open rematch on Sunday, with the same result.

Dimitrov doesn't get injured he wins the match.

Winning through a retirement of your opponent isn't the same as winning properly.

Be different if he was on top or even level in the match and Dimitrov retired but he was 2 sets down, just be better for the tournament if he doesn't win the whole thing now.

Ah in fairness the live odds had Sinner at evens and Dimitrov at 4/5. It was far from over. Id not like to see him win it anyway though and especially after this evening.

Gutted from Dimitrov. 2 sets up and playing well in the 3rd, would have liked to see Sinner go out. Still think he would have come through this match in 5 sets. This will help him as he won't have had to use up much energy fighting back from 2 sets down.

I felt really sorry for Dimitrov, he has been playing so well that last couple of years. Body doesn't seem able for longer matches.

Fritz coasting 2 up against KK, now losing the third 5-0…….WTF?

Sabalenka lost first set 6-4 but up a break in second.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,187 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Very impressive from Siegemund to get the break back against Sabalenka and hold her own serve

Jaysus this is a cracker of a match!

    (Sab v Sieg)

It's the first game I've seen all tournament, what a one to catch!

Be some screeching from Sabalenka now after that break of serve.

Can the umpire warn her or do players get to scream as much as they like? Its really annoying and gets worse on important points screaming before and after. Surely theres a limit.

It's so lovely to see the range of shots being played by Siegemund, so much of the women's game these days is baseline side-to-side power play - Siegemund mixes it up more than anyone I've seen in ages.
