If someone here is working for Dublin Bus and in Donnybrook, can someone please tell them to make them operate a expresso route, ideally from Sandyford/Dundrum to Merrion Square. The 44 is terrible at peak times.

Seeing as you post here often enough you should know that what routes run where isnt something for Dublin bus to decide on.

Email the NTA & TFI if you want

    Hi All,

Apologies for the lack of moderation on this thread, unfortunately the report post system on Boards.ie no longer notifies moderators of posts that are reported, therefore we don't know when an alert is created.

Can we please make sure that all posts made on this thread are directly related to the BusConnects Network. Posts relating to the Dublin Bus Fleet that are not directly related to the matter at hand should be made in a separate thread.

In future, if there is an issue with a post, please PM myself or one of the other moderators with a link to the offending thread or post and we'll take a look.

    Many thanks

    Devnull

@devnull thanks for that - just to be clear who are the moderators of this forum now?

    There isn’t a list anymore!

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 11,893 Mod ✭✭✭✭devnull

Since the software doesn't allow a list like the old system does, they've been added to the sticky at the top of the forum that also contains the charter.

This sort of thing is getting beyond a joke - pure nimbyism of the highest order.

    Good Lord above...

Yes, this would absolutely destroy the visual amenity of this extremely architecturally sensitive area...

"architecturally sensitive location" has got me laughing. To put it bluntly, Ballinteer is a sprawling suburban kip. You could level the whole suburb tomorrow and lose nothing of any historical or cultural significance.

Anyway, it's another example of wanting cake and eating it too. "We want more buses, but not bus drivers!" It's an area that has greatly benefited so far under BusConnects with the 74 and S8 and will continue to benefit greatly in a few months time with a new 24 hour bus route in the 80. Those 270 households objecting would change their minds quick enough when nature calls and the bus drivers need to use the local hedges, day and night!

You could make your comment about the nonsense of their architectural argument (and it is nonsense) without lowering yourself to their level by offending the entire area - I don’t think Ballinteer is by any means a “kip”.

There are plenty of nice parks and green areas, not least Marlay Park, and quite a few of the old estate houses from the 1800s or early 1900s are still standing if you took the time to walk around the area.

Anyways, the 80 won’t be serving Ballinteer until the A Spine phase in late 2026 - it’s only going to be going as far as Palmerston Park when the next phase happens.

To be fair, you could mix up the below with the French Riviera, or perhaps Venice?

'Kingston Residents' Association also noted that long distance buses have toilets on board and it believed the 16 route from its terminus in Ballinteer to Dublin Airport was "clearly long distance".'

    Oh FFS!

I can't believe I had to read that article.

Do the Kingston Resident Association not realise that every bus in the fleet operated by Dublin Bus do not have toilets fitted in them whatsoever. You only see toilets in buses on some long distance coach routes run by some private operators in Ireland. How stupid can this resident association's be in expressing this gibberish.

It is hilarious, Bus Eireann famously didn't even have toilets on long distance coaches like the ones that use to operate Cork to Dublin on what use to be a 5 hour trip (pre motorway)!!! As you say it was the Private intercity coach operators who only started introducing toilets on intercity routes over the last 15 years or so and BE followed suit on some (but not all coaches).

It really shows these people haven't a clue!

What have toilets on coaches got to do with bus connects?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,410 ✭✭✭✭L1011

The driver toilets facilities are, sort of, part of the network infrastructure rollout; and the bonkers claim that the 16 is a long distance route that should have on-board toilets came from a residents association opposing that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,845 ✭✭✭AngryLips

The article about the bus toilets is hilarious …on the one hand the residents say they take pride in their neighbourhood, but on the other hand they think it will be a source of antisocial behaviour …which is it?

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 23,486 Mod ✭✭✭✭bk

Toilet facilities for drivers is a very important part of BusConnects, almost all new bus interchanges under BusConnects are getting toilets and they are trying to add facilities like these where possible and I think it is very welcome.

While it doesn’t directly impact passengers, making sure drivers have adequate facilities will help with driver retention and thus less cancellations and frankly it is just the right thing to do for drivers.

Pointing out how few even long distance coaches have toilets, never mind city buses is just to emphasise how ridiculous these nimbys are.

BTW I’d also remind you that your above post is back seat modding and against the rules of boards.

I know if I lived beside a terminus of a long route like the 16, that I’d rather have the drivers using a dignified facility, rather than pissing in the bushes.

We really are decades behind when it comes to public toilets in this country.

I wonder are we still on course for a September F spine. At the current pace BusConnects could well be 'dated' by the time it's finished.

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 23,486 Mod ✭✭✭✭bk

While it is very frustrating how long it is taking to rollout, in fairness to them, they don't seem to be rigidly sticking to the original BusConnects plan and instead seem to be making sensible modifications to the plan as each corridor rolls out, with seemingly much higher frequencies, etc. then originally planned and alternative services, etc.

So I don't think BusConnects is really dated. I see it more as a solid basis for a network, that will need to be built on and expanded on overtime and I'm glad they seem to see it the same way.

Typical South County Dublin notions really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,933 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

No it’s typical of some stupid people.
Plenty of people would disagree with them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,669 ✭✭✭mikeybhoy

Drivers of course should have access to a toilet. Suggesting using buses with toilets is quite frankly madness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,695 ✭✭✭George White

The Bray dart Station is closed for just today cos unannounced maintenance works. No buses to Dublin stop outside the station and there is no rail replacement bus. The NTA never answer my pleas. FOr a bus replacement service esp for stops like Dalkey and Blackrock. Why can't say the E1 be diverted temporarily to the DART station?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,933 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

The maintenance works have been on the Irish Rail website for months in the long range calendar of works, and the engineering works page has had them for almost two weeks. Hardly unannounced.

There are barely enough drivers to run the existing bus service - the fact is that they don’t have the drivers to run rail replacement buses for the DART.

Sending the E1 to the station would play havoc with the timetable and rosters and you’d end up with cancelled or curtailed services.

The 45a, L1, L2, L12, L14 and L15 all provide a connection to the Main Street from the station to connect with the E1 at no fare penalty, and the L14 links to Cherrywood LUAS for a direct connection with the Green Line LUAS.

DB ran a shuttle from Connolly to GCD last January when the Loopline Bridge was closed was very poorly advertised and seemed to be very few using it. Although probably harder to get driver to do OT this time of year.

Rail replacement buses don't have to be done by DB plenty of privates would be glad of the work. They seem to have no problem using privates for Luas replacement.

I suppose that all of this information is available the station?
